Thank you. When I was a child my Dad loved coconut. Mom would poke the eye out and drain the water into a glass and then crack the nut with a large knife and then peel it, shred it and toast it. Then she would make his favorite coconut cake with it! I thought there had to be an easier way! Your boys are adorable.

loved it! very informative. did not realize there were two different types of coconuts!! boys are adorable. love to see a family doing things together. thank you for taking the time to share your knowledge.

Not really two different 'types' per se. One is when the coconut is still young. The other ..the brown one is when the coconut is matured and older ..same coconut just at different age stages.

Easy and honest! Husband bought the old kind from the store for my 9 year old and the video was simple and on point! FYI we didn't have a cleaver so my hubby used a oyster knife, worked great! Thanks

Thank you so much for this video. Finally got my coconut open! Very informative. Took a few tries but it worked. One trick I saw elsewhere (that really helped me) was to wet your coconut b4 striking it on its equator. Love your kids and their commentaries! You guys are awesome!

this is the best instructional video for opening a coconut. so simple and no need to punch the eyes/mouth of the coconut first. I am going to do this tomorrow. Love the boys, no idea what they said or which they liked the best but they are adorable.

Good demo. Except you should not be advocating getting you coconut wrapped in plastic. Plastic does not make things "clean". It is bad for the environment and bad for you. Plus it is is a bloody hard shell that you don't eat (natural packaging).

Is not that difficult to get the meat out. If you have hammer of any kind will more then suffice to do the job. Just give it a nice whack at it as if it was the last bottle of water on the planet and split the earth in half.

Hey, 1 nice tip. Put both halves of coconut into freezer for about 10 - 15 min. Then you can loosen the meat around the edges and soon can pop it out in 1 whole piece.

Hey man-staying in Thailand for a few months and after working out at the gym I drive home on my motorbike and stop by this guy selling green coconuts on the side of the road. Grab 2 of them every day-fresh from the tree same day and man o man so refreshing but always had a hard time opening up for the meat part so thanks for the info. Oh by the way the cost works out to about 30 cents each---never asked for a tax receipt-lol

Thanks for this great video. Just one thing, about the young coconut, since the plastic they've been repped in has been sprayed with a bunch of Fungicides and Chemicals we don't really want to touch it so it's best to only take the top part off where you wanna cut into and not the whole thing , that way we minimise contact with all of those chemicals.
    All The best.

I'm here cause at about 400 AM I woke up saying I MUST have a coconut...NOW...you know it's bad when you are debating whether to get dressed...go to the store to get a coconut...and then realize it might NOT be a good idea to follow thru with banging a fresh coconut cause you have neighbors. LOL! Then I waited...for hours so I wouldn't disturb neighbors...went to Walmart (closest store)...they have NO coconuts...and by then it has become a mission. AT least no one can complain (yet) about my banging in the middle of the day. Got to love Safeway....they had a lot of coconuts...and now that I had a few pieces I am saying...was it worth it all?

A couple of tips: Drain the juice first - ONE of the three eyes is soft, probe with an ice pick then open it up with a small sharp knife. Then hold the nut with a towel while whacking with the cleaver. this prevents a fracture from opening and closing on the skin of your hand.
