I had my old kitty shaved yesterday - we are going to have to do it in two rounds because he had just had enough and the groomer had to get the legs still, but I can see today he feels so good. Definitely keeping up with his grooming so that he doesn't have to go through this again. It's tough being old when you're a kitty... I have to say, the shaving took an hour. I wish it had gone this quickly.
I was recently told not to clip a cat in reverse (they said something about it growing back different) but I'm watching a lot of cat grooming videos and that doesn't seem to be the case. I enjoyed seeing how quick and efficient you are in this video!
I have the exact same clipper with the 10 blade. It just came in and it will not cut through my Persians matted hair. It's extremely matted. So is the clipper supposed to cut through the mats or do I need to go underneath the mats? any tips would be appreciated. We have no cat groomers nearby. Ive been a hairstylist for years but clipping a cat is a completely different ballgame lol. Any tips would be appreciated.
It’s the technique. Not the tool or the equipment specially, if it’s new.🫶 I have been teaching pet professionals as an educator for years. It’s way different🫶
My cat likes to hang out sleeping in my neighbors hedge all day and only comes in for food and bedtime Would it be bad for his skin to shave it as short like you did here? Thank you for the great video
I have shaved plenty of cats that go outdoors. I live in Yuma, Arizona, it’s the sunniest place on earth. The cat will hide in the shade. It will move. It won’t get sunburned. It’s not common. They get up and move.

First, ty for this video it's so insightful! I have a question, depending on how bad the mats are and hypothetically if the client wanted to keep the length would you use a bladed, rake brush to try to save the hair? Or do you not recommend those for cats?😮
There was no saving hair for length for this kitty today. Often times if I leave the coat all different lengths, it makes it even more prone to matting for next time and difficult to manage. It’s best to start all over one length
Prices for cat grooming services will vary widely depending on where you live in the US, if your groomer is mobile, housecall, or salon based like me. I’m also cfmg/cats only. No dogs. 👍Each has different price points tending to be more expensive because it is a premium service. I start at $125, they’re in really bad shape it goes up. I’m in Arizona near the border of Mexico and California.👍 my main thing I tell people looking for a Cat Groomer, make sure you like their work, and take a look at the shop. Be mindful not everybody is good at this.
I just got a brand new cordless KM 10 and it does not glide through the hair like yours does at all. I lubricated the blade and my cat isn't matted at all. Am I doing something wrong? Is there a guard that needs to be removed or something? Yours seems to go through the hair like butter and mine feels like it pulls at the hair and would take 3 hours to get the job done.
Sounds like there’s either something wrong with clipper drive or the blade. It has an excellent warranty of five years. I would call Wahl and find out, almost sounds like your blade needs to be sharpened.
Of course there’s orange female cats. While 80% are males they do exist. Calico on the other hand is 99.9% female. It’s a female sex link color pattern. Red or “ orange” color is not

Cats know they’re declawed because the top of their knuckles are chopped off😅 great video! I’m shaving my poor matted Himalayan grease ball today.
My clippers get hot very fast also. That was one reason I purchased the KM 10 is because I didn't think they were supposed to get hot.
Any clipper that runs fast is gonna run hot. Your blades should be oiled, cleaned, and sharpened. It will help. 🫶
