The Fast Lane Car you guys should make a video on 17 cars that are fast and affordable
I hate those blue headlights! They should be made illegal! They always blind me.
The Fast Lane Car I live in the U.K. and the headlights are so damn bright that when you pass one of the new cars you get blinded for a second or two and that can make driving dangerous.
The Fast Lane Car what about the Chevy Cruze?
Cut the yakking you guys are all talk and BS.
The list starts at 3:50
thankkk youuuu
Thanks i was wondering when they was finna start
Thank you
Thanks. We ain't here to hear them chit chat.
Thanks man, too much talk.
Those dummies are horrible drivers.
That's why they are called dummies xD
That is because they have poor diets and listen to rap music.
Lol that’s why there dummies
They crash every time...
CircumventStance no shit
It wasn't just 30,000 people who died last year in car crashes! It was 30,000 sons and daughters! I applaud any technology that works to reduce this!

I declare my car the safest car ever made; It hasn't crashed in over 24 years.

What car is it?
Then you are an extremely good driver
You're a good driver
I wasn't ever the person that payed much attention to IIHS. My wife picked up a 17 Outback based on it being a top safety pick. We hit a F250 at 65 when it pulled out in front of us totaling both vehicles. We walked away without even a bruise, he broke his hand. I'm now a firm believer now.
Not saying that's not impressive, but I was in an F350 that got t-boned by an S10 doing 60 and nobody in our vehicle was injured. (S10 driver ended up with the engine in his lap) I think it very much depends on the circumstances of the collision. Getting hit at 65 mph and walking away with only a broken hand is something I would consider a major win. :)
I'm not my crosstrek is down to its frame because it caught on fire after we hit a flag pole the airbags never went off and we hit the pole at 35 so I will never get a Subaru ever again
Chase E well any car can catch fire when it crashes oil gas and fluids leak
Richard Ren say that to a Lexus
I've been in a wreck, now I'm a believer. *keyboard riff*
It is about time safety features and crash performance were separated into 2 classes.
It's one thing to have a car that prevents a crash happening... but when a crash happens, nice white lights and lane departure warning means nothing so the actual crash performance should be a separate rating.
The two scores would be...
CRASH PREVENTION
CRASH PERFORMANCE
You should totally do this every quarter.
HELL YEA!
Subaru is doing a great job with safety. I'll buy one when they figure out how to keep the head gaskets from blowing at 100K miles.
Don't high rev the engine dude
And their stupid CVT transmissions from self destructing, easy solution, buy the manual transmission version.
Totally agree. Keeps me from buying one.
I like this video segment a lot you should do this more often thanks for posting this up
Hyundai owns a steel manufacture, a huge one. I'm sure their cars including Kias are benefiting this advantage. They're killing it!
Very interesting, IHSS has saved many lives, thanks to those guys wherever they are.
Great information. Keep these coming.
I got hurt imagining myself in the crash test. I'm recovering now...lol.
Happy holidays and happy winter my friend
Where is VOLVO?
Their headlights are marginal apparently. I really don't understand why the S90 didn't get a TSP (without +) though
Edit: Apparently they didn't test the 2018 S90 (yet?), don't really see the point of doing that anyway, given that it's the exact same car as last year for all I know
Volvo's recent tv ads emphasize luxury & the future, not crashworthiness.
volvo s60 and v60 are both TSP in midsize luxury car segment and xc60 in the midsize luxury suv segment. just click the link in the description
2018 XC60 is TSP, and IIHS have not tested most of the Volvo yet. But IIHS is certainly unhappy about the Volvo Head Light. Once US legalized full auto matrix high beam, the score of a lot of European cars will get better.
The XC60 got the EURO NCAP Safest SUV of the year!
Thank you for doing this video!
I just want to say that I always enjoy and learn from your informative and practical reviews. I also want to congratulate you guys on the addition of Andre. He’s really quite well informed and is very comprehensive in his coverage.

I Love this Channel. My wife and I actually go out of our way to watch the reviews. Andre Is my brother, got a wife and cat. Got my my cats picture up. That's his happy face btw.
We need to not only make cars safer but more importantly we need to train drivers better so they know how to avoid accidents better.
I was involved in testing headlights for a car coming to NA markets; we did IIHS testing separately to all others.
Have to say I think the small overlap test is a really tough and really valid test. I’m also super glad they’re now testing both sides (since I live in the UK I sit on the wrong side to benefit from US driver’s side overlap crash performance). Here in the EU there’s a similar thing but I don’t think they have a small overlap equivalent, there are other good factors tested though.
I just experienced how helpful a lane keep assist can be. I was distracted and left the lane while I was using the entertainment system... The car warned me about leaving the lane which was a great thing..!!
You can thank Mercedes for that since they invented it.
playing with te radio while driving.how could you do this?shame on you
Audi’s headlights are some of the best in the world, the only reason the a4 failed is because of the headlight restrictions in the US which means they’re not permitted to use their laser lights as they’re too bright, come to Europe and you’ll see.
Jack Barrett couldn’t agree more. as to many cars. I drive a 4 series gran coupe in the US and the fact that it has weak lights because of regulation kills the very notion of luxury in it. I was trying to modify them aftermarket but i lack the knowledge to do it. Im sure if i did, police would never realise or pull me over for it.
because they blind the upcoming driver, total arrogance from Audi and other manufacturers
I'm thinking about immigrating to Europe in the next few years I might take up the offer my friend
not only subaru, I survived in a huge crash few months ago, a minivan travelling at 70kmh hit my back, he almost die and my sti totalled, the rear wheel turned triangle shape and flew away, it was horrible and i got no injured with only a few hedache.
This was one year ago so this should still be good information to follow. My husband believes if the car is big it will protect you but some of these were small. We will probably be getting a new car this year so hopefully we can get a car off their list. I know we both need a car.
Would be so great if they would do a test on older cars. I drive a 2014 Audi TT 2.0TFSI Quattro Roadster. That model wasn’t ever tested. Would love to see what score my headlights get! I’m from South Africa btw
I like how more people own older cars like 2000-2006 tahoes and explorers and they dont crash test them- like they are cheap as hell just buy one and test it
I like how they explained!
Thanks for this.
Always buy cars that crumble!

I'm really interested to know the detail of what they are looking for with the headlight! Brightness is great for the driver of that car but potentially very dangerous for oncoming cars if it is not properly directed. I find SUVs and trucks with the high up headlights to be absolutely blinding and quite dangerous!

TOP 5 MADE THE LIST
It bothers me how its 2018 and with all the technology we have. Manufactures are still using halogen bulbs with poor designed headlights that are too dim.
Agreed. They are either too dim, or they have excessive glare. My mother's 2014 Escape comes with halogens, and they glare like crazy!
Really? LEDs I find are the only lights which cause glare here in the UK, some are horrendous!
YESS thats a big problem!
it isn't about being too dim, but too bright and going into wrong directions.
Um my halogen headlights shine better than the led or other bright lights I have driven in. It’s all about the halogen bulb used and how it is spread. It’s easier to concentrate on a road in the dark if you don’t have a strong bright light that your eyes will have to strain with. Think of it as when your phone is very cold in color on the screen at night. It’s not very comfortable, but when you make it warmer, your eyes are not as fatigued. So I believe that they need to just be smart and make a happy medium. Use better bulbs but do not make them where it’s so bright. It may look cool but I personally don’t think it’s worth it.
Top 17 cars need to get picked by blinding people on the roads with them headlights
+1. .. Nice job. .. Our Subi Outback XT and a soon to be delivered, a new MY18 E-Class 400 wagon made the 2018 IIHS list. .. Yeah man.
Michael Schneider nice. But how are you getting XT model in a Outback? I'm pretty sure we don't get the turbo engine in Outback in North America
Pug A. .. Pardon, our Subi Outback XT is a USA production MY07, Colorado titled, the last of the 2.5t XT Outback's IIRC. .. Even then, the Outback made the top safety lists from both IIHS and EURO NCAP. .. The Outbacks top test pick's continues ....
I love my Mercedes. An E Class and a 1989 560SL with low mileage.
That’s why my grandma got a GLC. Amazing car! 😀
These tests are wonderful - but one massive test is missing. The safest car is one that can avoid an accident altogether. A crash prevention swerve test. In Sweden I think they call it the moose test. Another useful safety feature would be a car that stops when it detects a cellphone being operated inside the car! That one may save more lives than all the others put together...
PS: I do not want a car that automatically brake for pedestrians as I may want to run car hijackers over.
One of the reasons why I chose my Impreza. Love my car!
you imprez da ladies lol
Troxz_269 Funny you said that because it happened a couple times. 🤣🤣🤣
Double JJ the Impreza is a great car, I'm a fan of the early models
we need a *break* from these jokes
Double JJ Same thing for my WRX! : )
+5 Roman for Pink Floyd T-Shirt
I had rear automatic braking save me on a Dodge Durango and I’m so grateful for that suv
I jump over a 20ft high barn house in my 69 dodge charger and landed perfectly horizontal due to the concrete balas in the boot, then drove through a heap of hay followed by smashing through a flimsy wooden fence, then through some road work barriers without any damage at all apart from a few scuff marks down the left front wing. The rozzers had no chance catching me in their British Rover SD1 V8. The charger was the safest car ever built.
The led headlights are a damn pain. They blind you so badly at night it shouldnt be aloud in cars.
Glad to see the infiniti q50 made the list (except they havent tested one of the tests yet)
When they test those headlights do they think of the incoming trafic 'cause there so much of those blinding the incoming trafic...
aleo corona I do believe that is part of the criteria
thats why they get the marginal rating, bad spread and low brightness. the cause for blinding is bad spread of the lights where they bleed their pattern upwards and why they are so annoying in oncoming traffic or even in your rear view mirrors they are blinding. low beams in here are supposed to be aimed at the floor with a range of 50m no more, no one is capable of that because the patterns always bleed up and end further than they should
Well, somebody is not doing a good job....
I hate this trend of super bright lights that don’t even light the road! And on top of that all these idiots that install aftermarket lights that drive with their high beams or off road lights on
aleo corona as long as I can see I'm good
Ohhh I see that allroad behind you guys when is the video coming out
Good job , buying the number 3 , 2 , 1
More like "The safest cars iihs tested" No XC90 on the list... really?
well if it isnt tested you cant call something safe right? you shouldn't give any manufacturer that doubt, all cars are not safe until tested not even volvo.
Definitely Volvo is the safest car manufacturer of all time and everyone knows it! That's the reason I bought the new XC90 for my family, safe as a tank! 😉
you missed the point, clearly you shouldnt give any manufacturer the doubt because they are a business and the ultimate goal of a business is to sell a product at the lowest price possible with the best image and most profit they can THIS is the exact reason why you shouldnt trust any manufacturer specially automakers unless otherwise proven
Alaude I'll trust Volvo any day! Safety is their #1 priority, maybe you should do some more research since you obviously don't know much about Volvo and what they stand for 🤦♀️
Well in Europe it was the safest car tested. So...
Anyone wearing a "Pink Floyd" tea shirt has got to be cool and reliable. After seeing this video I purchased a Kia Soul for my teenage driver.
The juke is more rugged than a Soul
2018 Mercedes gle350 and my wife has a 2018 e300. Didn’t know why it was crossed out.

Where did you find the video of the 2018 Toyota Camry Roof Strength test? I have done a couple searches but I cannot find it.
Please do update this every quarter or so!
You should do sport cars! Type R, demon, the stang, corvette.
I have seen lots of crash tests from the 1990s and 2000s. The front body and A-pillar don't even move on these videos... you could tape an egg close to the windshield and it'd survive the crash lol
Here is an extraordinary statistic: since the Volvo XC90 went on sale in the UK in 2002 it has sold over 50,000 vehicles, yet not a single person has been killed while driving it, or as a passenger.

Yeah I bet that hurt.
In my experience I feels like Audi A5 and above or the Q series are most safety. I saw an Audi A6 crash into the back of the lorry in like 140km/h or above without brake maybe the driver fall asleep while speeding. It even shook the lorry so hard and the car only destroy the end front havent even reach windscreen distance.

Most manufacturer offer better light package on their top of the line models. Hid vs halogen vs led.

Star rating is relative to what you're hitting.
A 1 star grand voyager (aka 2007 grand caravan) hit a 5 star vw golf (2012)
Taxi driver in the 1 star had some severe cuts and bruises, the four in the golf were less fortunate and all died.
That was a head on collision on a country road at night near where I used to live.
iVlogBuzz Other factors probably more important, relative speeds of vehicles, occupants, secondary effects.
You cannot hit anything much worse than the solid concrete barrier the crash tests use.
Well put. To be even more specific, the rating is relative to something with a similar curb weight as your vehicle since they crash these things into concrete slabs. The golf in your example weighs roughly 3000lbs and would thus perform well against something of a similar weight. Get hit by a 4500lb crossover like you see so many of on the road though and you'll be in trouble.
vw golf for 2012 wasn't even tested by nhtsa. How do you know how many stars it got?? VW don't sell that many cars. Previous Golf never got higher than 3 stars, till 2018, even now they got 4 stars. IIHS uses Jetta data for golf and even that was pretty bad. Head Injury Criteria was 266. Compare that to 5 star rated cars that get 60. Volkswagen is like European version of KIA or Hyundai. Cheap transportation.
EURO NCAP! 5 Star!

Comparing vw to hyundai and kia, lmfao.
The new xenon headlights of the new cars might light up the road quite well. But they always blinding me wen driving towards me. (safety for others and themselves?)
Or I think that it might be an emergency vehicle because from a distance they appear to be blue. So they are distracting as well... I stick with my yellow lights.
Holly shit, the windshield didn't even break on that Subaru!!
Finally, a car brand that actually backs up their claims. I'm not a fan of Subaru, but it's doing something right.
Subaru sold 666,000 cars in 2017 in USA. Yes they are doing something right.
YES10, ya, I am seeing new subarus everywhere. They look nice too.
Very good vídeo! But where is the volvo cars??
do this *_MORE_* often!
Does the IIHS specify which models are actually the top safety picks or do I need to do research to figure out what options they had to make it a top safety pick.
Just click on the IIHS link in the video description for your answer.
So many didn't make it because of the new headlight test I don't feel that you can rely on this list. next year may be more representative.
What did they say about lane assist? Two voices at once at that moment=not understandable. Thank you. Always great reviews and information.
No surprise that Subaru got top picks. Their cars were passing the difficult IIHS small overlap test before almost everyone else. It seems they don't make cars to just pass a test, they make their cars strong achieve a good long-term reputation for safety.
From all these tests i'd take that gray frame with a car mounted on it. 1:34
If this isn't a thing yet, someone needs to make an emergency over-taking system. Where if there was a car in front of you and you were about to hit it so the car automatically looks at the lanes beside it and switched to it then slows down. It could be safer than the braking as it doesn't slow down all at once but the braking could hurt the person if the seat belt is slightly broken.
I buy a lot of vehicles both personal and business use, it has to be at least Safety Pick on IIHS list.
Great list, but one complaint. Where is tesla? Have they simply not been tested for the 2018 model year? Because if im not mistaken, all of the cars, especially the model s, have perfect, and rare, 5/5
Just got the Mercedes GLC love it!
Kudos, Merc is the Safest Luxury car around not Volvo
Subaru is already the safest car make in the world, and they're the numbers who prove it. In proportion to the small list of models they manufacture, they are the car make who places more models in the IIHS list of 2018 "Top Safety Pick" and "Top Safety Pick +" awards winners: SEVEN (at least when writing this).
m.iihs.org/mobile/ratings/mobileratings/tsps
Bearing in mind that this car make manufactures only NINE models (Legacy - Outback - Levorg - Forester - Crosstrek / XV - Impreza - WRX - BRZ - and the new Ascent), it turns out that 78% of these model list are "Top Safety Pick" or the yet superior "Top Safety Pick +".
But it has to be noticed that SIX of those seven are "Top Safety Pick +". The Subaru Forester is the only one of those seven that «"only"» (very in quotes) gets "Top Safety Pick".
Which other car make can boast of such a feat? With a much wider rank of models, BMW places only FIVE models in this list, like Lexus. Renault: FOUR. Volvo and Mercedes place only THREE models in this list. Audi: TWO. Jaguar, Land Rover, Citroën, Peugeot: ZERO.
Hyundai places TEN models, Kia NINE, and Toyota EIGHT, but these car makes manufacture many more models than Subaru. Subaru achieves the highest rate between manufactured models and award-winning models.
No opinion, just maths.
I notice the new Lincoln Continental is one of the few American cars in the safest cars around. Most of the cars shortlisted are made in Asia.
What is with the headlight mist new cars have such blinding bright headlights you cant see for a few secs when they have driven towards you on a single lane riad
changing lanes in my 15 outback was dangerous because it would lock my steering and slow down without warning for no reason...dangerous
In modern technology wise my 2002 F350 superduty, would be a one star. It weighs over 10k lbs. Which car would you rather be in a head on collision? My superduty or a brand new kia forte? Super duty for the win.
7.3?
The headlight rating on the audi, its like it is a vw thing. The atlas and tiguan had thesame rating
Rock on Subaru.
Reading IIHS crash test ratings is more complicated than this. One thing that matters BIG TIME is the weight of the vehicle. In a two vehicle crash....the heavier one will keep you safer.....generally speaking. So take a vehicle rated TSP that's 500lbs heavier than another vehicle with a TSP+ rating....the heavier one is safer 9/10 times. Even if it has a lower overall rating. However, I wouldn't just go for the heaviest vehicle out there either. Other things matter. Is that heavier vehicle more likely to to rollover in a moose test? Is that heavier vehicle rated extremely poorly in regards to crumple zones and airbags? I'd rather have a 3,400 lbs Subaru Outback with Good ratings across the board....than 4,000lbs truck with poor ratings across the board. Again, its complicated. Would you rather have a Camero with a strong frontal crash rating but weak roof? Or a Mustang with a strong roof but poorer front crash rating? I'd personally probably (for pure safety reasons) get the Camero. It has a weak roof...but its a hard car to rollover too. I'd be more likely to get hit head on in a Camero than I would be to flip it. But, if you do flip it...you'd be safer in a Mustang. IIHS ratings are not as straightforward as most think they are. Vehicles are only to be directly compared against vehicles of similar weight.
The auto stop sensors clog in 2 min in snow ❄️. Bugs and mud too. Why don’t they test when your car gets rear ended as common crash ?
2:40 Me putting my headlights on the America: Are my headlights on?
Me putting my headlights on the Europe: I can see 5 km in front of me.
Hey blame The Regulators for not giving us better headlights I agree we need better headlights cuz I can't really see in the dark when I drive that's why I drive below the speed limits
I die inside a little bit every time I watch a crash test 😵 such pretty cars, demolished 😢
for the roof strenght test they should rig a platform for it to roll over two or three times with dummies inside to get a more real world test
Nice safety
How do you get a top safety pick plus if you don't have a "good" rating in all categories? Only a few cars mentioned were good in everything
You can't. It has to be all good ratings (exception of the Child Restraints and LATCH Anchors test).
Since the crash test ratings don't apply across vehicle classes / sizes, is it safe to assume a large vehicle with a poor crash test rating is safer in an accident than a small vehicle with a perfect rating? I understand modern safety features can help avoid the accident in the first place, but in the event of an actual collision, seems logical to think a bigger heavier vehicle is safer. Can't imagine a new Kia Forte faring well in a head on with a full sized 1970's Cadillac or S-Class 1980's Mercedes right?
geneva1999 Check out the IIHS video of a 1950’s Bel Air vs a 2009 Chevy Malibu in a head on collision. You will be shocked at how badly Bel Air faired.
