So glad to hear that and that your mental health is much better! I think Dobies make great mental health therapy dogs. Am getting one for this reason, as I suffer with extremely severe pts'd'. Hopefully by March for my 50th. At least in USA you do use them for this role. Here in the UK they are still very demonised and misunderstood, unfortunately.

May I make a suggestion? You could always try a “plugs out” test - or essentially, a real life dry-run. You know the requirements of keeping a Doberman, right? (Exercise, cost, training, vet bills, misc expenses.)
If not, there’s loads of great videos on this channel! But imo the best way to see if you can manage a Doberman is to live as though you have one already! Go for an hour’s walk 2x a day. Find out how much pet insurance costs and start putting it aside in a mason jar in cash every month. Same thing for kibble, and toys. Money into the mason jar.
Keep it up for a month, and then another, until you hit twelve months. If you can commit, then you’re qualified. If not, find out where you dropped the ball, and either improve, or consider a breed that fits that profile.
A dog is a lifetime commitment - theirs. If you can spend a year committed to that, not only will you have the peace of mind of knowing you’ll be a good home for your dog… that mason jar money will probably be enough to purchase your puppy!

@@phantomlakdude good luck! Take it one month at a time, and if you catch yourself slipping on one thing (time, money, inclination), you can double down. I tried it myself, starting on day1 of quarantine. “You want a dobie? Okay then, act like you brought him home yesterday.”
I have never bought so much winter gear in my life - cause -25C ain’t cute - but I walked that imaginary dog twice a day for an hour at a time all damn winter. I figured that if I was committed enough to walk an imaginary dog in the dead of a Canadian January, walking a real one would be an upgrade.
Nearly two years into quarantine and I’ve got the best exercised imaginary dog… and my real one comes home in the spring!

I felt the EXACT same way. I did not think I could loose another best friend AND I didn’t think any other dog could possibly be as good as our first Dobie. Two years after we lost our first, I started just looking at pictures on the intranet. Then, I just “looked” to see if the breeder we used was still in business. I knew my husband felt the same as I did about another Dobe so I did not mention my internet curiosity to him. Long story short, we are into our third year with our second Dobie and it was the best decision. Our Moses is a pure joy and we have so much fun with him. Olga, our first Dobie, paved the way for us to be Dobie only owners. Glad we made the decisions that we did. I hope you will give another Dobe a good home. They deserve the best owners.

Same. My first doberman's passing left me devastated. She was an absolute angel. Loyal and loving dog. She has taken such a big space in my life that i thought I'd never get another doberman or dog again. However, i just took that leap of faith to get another doberman and the family was able to move on, but not forget the wonderful angel we once had. Her memories does not make us hurt or grieve anymore. It just makes us remember the good memories we've spent with her.

My husband was ok with a short gap, but it wasn’t enough time in between for me, and it has affected my bonding with our puppy. I would definitely encourage giving yourself time to grieve and not rush the process. Hopefully you’ll get to the point when you feel ready for another.

    Another great video, thank you!
I’ve wanted a dobie for the past ten years, but circumstances were never right so I never felt comfortable bringing a dog into the equation.
I decided to consider it as motivation: if I could get my own fitness, finances and spatial footprint to a place where I could provide a happy home for a dog like the Doberman… then I’d let myself adopt one. Happily, I’ll be moving into my own home this spring, and the first thing I’m doing is adopting my dog. I don’t know who’ll come home with me yet, but somewhere out there is a dobie who has no idea how good their life is about to get!

The only thing holding me back from getting a Dobie. Is that I have a Dobie already and is such a work (with her commands).
So, when Laika becomes more mature maybe I will get another baby girl dobie.

Love your channel! So much good information! I have a question.. do you have any information on knuckling in dobermans? I’ve recently found out it’s a fairly common thing, however there is not a whole lot of information available on it. Not sure if it has become a common issue with this breed? Thanks!

Nothing holding me back but time now! Had doberman on my list since 2016, and found myself finally nearly ready for em earlier this year, which is when I dove back into my research, and started seriously making a breeder short list. With my criteria in selecting a breeder to even approach, thankfully I have not come across anyone rude.
I became fully ready this past September, and just been approved by my #1 choice breeder on my list. They should have the annual litter late next spring. My 1st dobe and dog as an adult, beyond excited. Thank you for making such videos! Found you earlier this year while still making my short list, and your perspective have helped with great tips to keep in mind, and further verify certain thoughts as well (including that doberman is the right choice for me, and that I am ready for the challenge).

I already have 2 dogs in an apartment, one of them is less than one year of age so now is probably not the time for a dobie. However I have already decided that the next dog I'm getting when the timing is better will be a doberman :)

I've been dying to get a Doberman forever! Always loved them as a kid without even knowing how I discovered them lol, and only learned what they were named due to googling "the scary dog from Up" 😆I watched all your videos (including the apartment one!) and found a list of breeders I want to buy from, but so far it seems they both explicitly / implicitly would not sell a puppy to an apartment dweller. The one breeder I dared apply to rejected me because of the apartment situation as well, even when I told her I am very active. Fingers crossed in one day meeting a reputable breeder who would be willing to sell me a puppy!

    • @kittycatdays8719
      @kittycatdays8719 2 роки тому

Getting a dog for intimidation is a bad idea. First off, if they naturally attack then a lot of people can be harmed just because the dog was untrained and scared. Second off, its very hard to train up a very good guard dog on your own, and trainers are a lot of work and money. Third off, think of dogs as knives. You can carry one around, you can even pull one on someone, but unless youre actually ready to attack/stab, the knife is useless and the person will almost immediately see through your bluff.

All that’s holding me back is severe dog allergies. Seems I’ll have to stick to poodles until we have a cure :( but poodles are incredibly versatile, they just lack some of that ‘attack drive’, otherwise they can compete everywhere dobies can.

Been Watching your videos for awhile now and have been subscribed for awhile. I have finally gotten a Doberman and I am picking him up during the holidays! My only concern is DCM and also this will be Blue Doberman: I originally wanted a Black or Red; but the Opportunity came and I couldn't pass it up! So I have some concern on Doberman alopecia, I have done a little research so far about certain supplements or like vitamin A as well as certain shampoos to help. Long story Short I'm Super excited to bring Niko to my family. Currently own a Cane Corso and a Yorkshire Terrier and Minatare Poodle. If you have any advice! it would be much appreciated! I will continue to watch your videos! I wont be a stranger! Hope to hear from you!

And I was told that allergy shots won’t fix everything or make the allergy disappear. Which really sucks. But it’s for the best because at least I know and I won’t make an accidental irresponsible decision and have to give a companion up a month or two after I get one

I bought my Doberman Judge a few months ago together with my ex, he arrived a week after we broke up. So I was dealing with working from home, arranging the sale of our house, moving in with my mother AND raising my pup. So the first few weeks he got a lot less exercise and training than I would've liked. But I'm committing to training and exercising a little extra now and he is doing so well! So don't overthink too much, just try to do your research and socialise very well. And ofcourse try your best, and love him/her as much as you can. I know Judge loved me from the moment he arrived and we have been inseparable ever since.

If you are worried about temperament, getting along with others, "bad habits", etc.. adopt from a rescue. A foster will have a report on the dog and you'll know what to expect.
In the last 25 years we've had six Dobes. All them adapted to our lifestyle and we've never needed to exercise their bad habits away. Just like in the video, what they always want is to be with us. When they are a puppy they do need lots of play and exercise but as they get older it's less so and that is another reason to adopt from a rescue.
If you have two, they wear each other out :)

The only thing that stopped me from getting a doberman is the temperatures here. Though they may reach coldest 16 degrees celsius, the dogs we have should be able to work 10 hours a day at night and then be in a tight space in the day.
In other words, doberman dogs do not have an undercoat so they get cold easily and that is the only thing stopping me from getting one
Apart from that, I love your videos.
    Thanks for your vids

Totally agree with that. I've found a few people but one I was asking questions n got a yes email any time that I emailed a few more times with questions that I'm on the UK and people jump on me for saying this but I want a docked doberman they don't look like dobermans with tail n floppy ears. I wouldn't be to bothered about not cropped ears as I've never taped ears as when had my doberman they were docked and to me they should look the way they did and were meant to look for a reason rather than when I see post saying chopping a dogs tail off for the look. It's not that but to me that's how they would look. Should look. So I'm freakingnwith this send your money and we will ship it to your do. Scares the ???? Out of me and yeah told agree breeders being rude as think I sent two emails and got the last reply saying I've told you this. Thought wow sorry xxx

My experience with breeders was bad. Either they didn't call back, wouldn't consider me because they mostly sell to previous buyers, their lists are super long or they were just extremely rude. One breeder finally said "breeding and you will definitely get one at a cost of $3,000". Breeding was not successful, but we're breeding again don't worry you'll get one. A week before I picked her up I was told she was $3,800. What happened to $3,000? Take it or leave it. I hate to say it but I took it I don't like dealing with breeders a lot of them are "snooty"

I lost my maggie(dobbie ) 2 years ago and my has never been the same. She was my life and now, the emptiness is so overwhelming.. She was not only a companion but she was the most loving creature on the planet. If I had a person I could trust if something happened to me ,I wouldn't wait another minute.
