That icy soil is called needle ice or column ice :) It forms when the water within the soil is warmer than the air outside, so it is drawn up by the cold air and freezes on the way up.
What AWESOME news that you & Guillame will be able to team up for this year's Barkley! With both of you being such positive people and both great at the 100 mile distance, this is a possible dream team. Best of luck to you both!!!!
Glad to see you again! This video should have "TRIGGER WARNING" on it . I was 3 minutes in and I accidentally signed up for a race I said I wasn't gonna run this year . :D (Sky Island by Spectrum)
This looks quite a bit like my home trails (west Japan). Complete with the ice beard Barkley snacks. If im not mistaken they appear when the ground is above zero but the air temp is below zero, forcing the moisture out of the ground. Edit - my explanation is not very good. They’re called Needle Ice: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Needle_ice Hope you get to finish five loops!
Tennessee has some great trails. Ran a trail half in Collierville and it was beautiful. Only issue was TONS of mud and the slick stumps everywhere threatening runners' ankles.
SEE ANY STRAY DOGS? I agree...seeing the course (sort of) in the sun light was strange. Hoping you all get some good weather this year.....and a finish. Stay safe and injury free...
Welcome back Jam Jam! Love seeing that face on a vlog again! I'm sure everyone here is like me and will be rooting for you and keeping up with you on Strava until you upload again :)
Jamil, I heard you say on the video that you want to visit every February. I live about 45 minutes from the park and camp there with my family a few times every year. So, if you need a free place to stay or any help with crewing the race, hit me up! I'm big fan of your videos and would love to help a fellow runner out.
#nobugle2019 for you and Guillaume! looking STRONG! 💪 Btw- ha, so funny they have Waterloo in Oak Ridge, that is my go to bubbly water, I’ll be able to get it in September for BFC! 👍. Did you try coconut flavor, it’s REAL GOOD!
Who was the 3rd who joined you and Guillaume on Day 2? At first I thought it was John Kelly, but I don't think it was. Also does Guillaume ever stop smiling?
Arghh it's the Barkley madness again :D Them briars are waiting for the shins of innocent fools :D Either way, it is how you are making new moments in life, which you'll never forget (I guess, even with Alzheimer). Guillaume is running this year too? Awesome, lovely athlete :D Love you guys!!
Yo! I go to the University of Tennessee Knox. Frozen head is only about 45 minutes away. I’ve been wanting to go out there for a few weeks now to do some training.
Great video! I'm trying to go beyond marathon distance with a "short" ultra this year. Does anyone have any strong opinions about poles? I've never used them and can't decide if I want to try them out or not?
giff74 I’m thinking a similar thing! Last year I did a 69 mile ultra in the UK. Didn’t use poles and don’t think they were that necessary, but I’m doing it again this year and I’m thinking I will get some. Yes I managed without but if they take some pressure off legs and knees when climbing to me that seems to be a plus...? Keen to see what others think though!
Where I’m from (rural Nevada) most park hours are after sun up and before sun down. I’ve actually never visited a park where you can be there when it’s after dark.
That icy soil is called needle ice or column ice :) It forms when the water within the soil is warmer than the air outside, so it is drawn up by the cold air and freezes on the way up.
This is your year, Jam Jam!
Would be so stoked to see both of you guys finish this year
I wish you well Jam Jam for this year's Barkley, you will crush it.
So cool to see Frozenhead in February. So excited for you and Guillaume as you prepare for the Barkley Marathons!
Run Steep is Back!!! 🤟🤟
YES, this is EPIC so glad to see you back...and training for Barkley!!! Sick
What AWESOME news that you & Guillame will be able to team up for this year's Barkley! With both of you being such positive people and both great at the 100 mile distance, this is a possible dream team. Best of luck to you both!!!!
Finally a vid again! i missed your vlogs :(
same

Where in Japan are you? I'm in Osaka and saw them on Mt. Rokko a few times last year.
Thank you for the Barkley content especially after I had a recent discovery of this prestigious race in Frozen Head. Love the footage and beats! ✌️🙏

Very Nice!! Love that area so much
Great idea to get out there and get more comfortable with the course before race week. Best of luck on the Barkley!!!
Yaaaay, love it, great to see a bit of Frozenhead, and really cool you're getting to spend some time there in advance.
Brilliant running video. Really enjoyed watching that thank you.

Thanks so much! BFC is on my schedule and this was great to see. Happy to see you doing well and having fun. I'll be cheering you both on for sure!
You got it this year Jam! Jam!
Tennessee has some great trails. Ran a trail half in Collierville and it was beautiful. Only issue was TONS of mud and the slick stumps everywhere threatening runners' ankles.
We used to call it Hoar Frost. Happens when the air temp drops very low, very fast, freezing the warmer air as it escapes from the ground.
SEE ANY STRAY DOGS? I agree...seeing the course (sort of) in the sun light was strange. Hoping you all get some good weather this year.....and a finish. Stay safe and injury free...
So glad to see you hitting the trails early this year!
Great training going on💪🏼. Great to see you back. 🏃🏻♂️
My man you like the quality seltzers. Right on

I know of the barkley, and have watched some video of it. Seems like it would be real easy to get off trail and lost!
Bout time we heard and saw some Barkley!!
Sweet vid! Hope your training goes well. Any trail current podcasts planned for the future? I miss that show! :)
Very epic route but it also reminds me of the movie called wrong turn.
Who was the 3rd who joined you and Guillaume on Day 2? At first I thought it was John Kelly, but I don't think it was.
Also does Guillaume ever stop smiling?
The barkley marathon is over. What did happen to you Jam ? Your fans are still supporting you !
Moooooooorrrrrreeeeeeeeeeeeeee videos Jamil. Please. Thank you.

Liked before the video started

inspiring as always
super vidéo 👍🏃
Great to see you back 👊
Brilliant vid
I didn't run steep today, but I as sure as hell got high watchin this
Any links to song used? I’ve been digging some ambient style tracks while running
Polar ruby red grapefruit is outstanding
don't let the nice weather fool you, it could easily be very cold and snowing .
Of course.
Great vlog broski...
Great video!

010MACS I've wondered the same things. I just don't like things in my hands when I run, just a weird thing for me I suppose. LOL
giff74 yeah I know what you mean! I’ve not tried them so might be awful haha.
When the heck is the race? Where is the best place to find details about what happened during the race?
Is the soundtrack for this vid available? Or any of your vids for that matter. I love the music!
Missed the running vlogs :)
Nice Jamil!! What watch are you running? Suunto... Maybe a quick Ultra specific review giving us the lowdown. :)
Awesome video! Did you record these runs on strava? Would love to check them out.
Love to see more Barkley footage, great job! What shoes were you running in?
Love that music during day 2 - is that original?
very nice
Did you film with the DJI Osmo Pocket at all or just the gopro 7? I'm still getting used to my Osmo Pocket!
Hero 7
@Steven have you used both or had any good experiences with either?
@@LovewadeStephen I just have the Osmo Pocket. I like it however it's not rugged like the Hero 7
I could only get 360p resolution? Any ideas?
Probly still processing. I uploaded in 1080p
@@runsteepgethigh good point. Great video as always!
Which gimbal were you using on this trip?
What beautiful weather.
As I watched this I was thinking you could get some really awesome footage with an Insta360 one x camera.
Have you tried it?
I haven’t played around with any 360 cams yet but I’m interested
How many miles was all of that?
Its just a run u could walk it like a strool in the woods and finish it .
Seems crazy that they can shut a park like it's a shop Haha
Where I’m from (rural Nevada) most park hours are after sun up and before sun down. I’ve actually never visited a park where you can be there when it’s after dark.
I'm from the UK, and the national parks are just natural and you can visit when ever you want
National parks and rec areas are open 24/7, but city and state parks have hours - at least in TN. Go figure.
Lets go!!
Is this recorded with the hero 7? No gimbal?
Correct
Nice one!! Is Guillame running this year? Good luck!!
Good Luck Folks!
