The King’s Life Guard is conducted by soldiers of the Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment at Horse Guards. Horse Guards is named after the troops who have mounted The King’s Life Guard here since the Restoration of King Charles II in 1660. The ceremony has remained mostly unchanged for over 350 years. Changing of The King's Life Guard The ceremony of changing of the King’s Life Guard starts at 11am with the Old Guard formed up on Horse Guards Parade. As the New Guard arrives, a trumpeter sounds a royal salute and the officer salutes. The New Guard forms up facing the old one. Once both lines are still, the corporal major, senior non-commissioned officer and sentries of the New Guard (the first relief) rein back their horses and leave for the guard room to take over their duties, which lasts for 48 hours. The sentries from the Old Guard return to the parade ground and the entire Old Guard returns back to barracks. When the monarch is in London, there is a ‘long guard’ consisting of an officer, corporal major (who carries the regimental standard), two non commissioned officers, a trumpeter and 10 troopers. When the monarch is away, the guard is reduced to two non-commissioned officers and 10 troopers known as a ‘short guard’. Whatever the season or weather, members of the Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment ride down from Hyde Park Barracks in Knightsbridge to take over guard duties. TIMINGS OF DUTIES The Guard Change currently takes place on: Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 11am. The two iconic soldiers on horses that mount duty on Whitehall at the entrance of Horse Guards change on the hour every hour from 10am until 4pm. This ensures that, regardless of the time you choose to visit the museum, you are guaranteed a captivating spectacle of ceremonial duties in progress. The King’s Life Guard is the name given to the guard duty performed by The Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment at Horse Guards. It dates from 1660 when The Life Guards mounted a permanent guard at the entrance to Whitehall Palace. The Primary Duty of the Mounted Guards in London is to VERBALLY WARN TOURISTS TO MAINTAIN DISTANCE AND NOT TOUCH THE HORSE, AS THEY ARE CONSIDERED PART OF THE SOVEREIGN'S BODYGUARD AND SHOULD BE TREATED WITH RESPECT, IF NECESSARY, THEY MAY EVEN ISSUE MORE ASSERTIVE COMMANDS TO ENSURE COMPLIANCE. SO WHY AREN'T 'ALL' THE GUARDS DOING THIS????🤨
I understand where you are coming from I also get annoyed at the troopers NOT calling "OUT "!! The only answer I have is that these soldiers are shouted out as part of their of the daily work. To go up the ranks they will have to be able to give the shout when needed. IF THEY cannot assume this authority they will not go very far up the ladder. They must be able to take command of the moment wherever that is.......on horseback here at Horse Guards OR in the field of BATTLE. The whimpy ones with the little voice will have to have lessons or leave
Shear laziness is my answer.. most people despise work .. they just like to get paid & do as little or no work.. these 2 dummies are definitely amongst that useless type of workers i described ..the 2nd type .. the black dummy is a big 0.. totally useless 😮
Why did they hire that blind as a horse guard? It's that guard who is provoking the chaos! Teach him every day what the rules are!!! Those lady guards are much better than the male guards!!!
I am SOOO disappointed by he guard Not telling all of these tourists tonstand clear of the box !! Its for the safetynofnthe guards and tourists to be well aware of the new rules! It shoukd be vocalized to the tourists about the changes and made well aware of what happens when they dont comply…….simple!!!
The Tourists that believe they got away from over stepping the line, they are mistaken, if they noticed the Gurads Job is to look into the crowds and look for people he red flagged as potential danger, so at times he doesn’t catch all misbehaving tourists.
Disappointment with certain trooper's they don't pay attention to the ppl that goes directly in the line sometimes they are next to the horse and other's follow. I notice they are looking at the crowd but not next to him😢😢😢😢😢 they have to be consistent
One of the reason some of the guards are sleeping is maybe if one asked what /where they were last night. On saturday the horses were approaching the boxes with the DOORS STILL CLOSED!!. Suddenly someone run out to open them while everyone stood waiting. The discipline seems very ragged sometimes !!

If the guard can't keep the morons out of the box he shouldn't be on a horse in the guarding position. It's so hurting to watch morons break every rule and nothing is ever said, the poor horse probably can't stand the different smells and the touching.

Yes the tourist KNOW the rules but smirk with the naughty smile knowing they are disrespecting & thinking it funny.!!
