You know…I was expecting many things when I clicked on this video. I wasn’t expecting to hear “the video game motif of Ex-Aid was allowed because Yo-Kai Watch was huge in Japan.” As someone who A) was and still is a big YW fan myself, and B) also discovered with Gotchard that there’s a YW and Kamen Rider pipeline, I had no clue that it and Ex-Aid shared such a connection.
Ex-Aid was such a phenomenal season. I was totally amazed when Emu said "Ex-Aid Gaming!" before turning into the titular Kamen Rider Ex-Aid Really put the Excite in the audience's heart
I hate to be "that guy" but to clarify, the EX in EX Aid means extreme as in extreme aid. This goes along with the riders theme of being a doctor. extreme aid is referring to how the rider responds to dangers similar when a medical team responds to a 911 call for a patient in need of dire medical attention, hence the name ex aid.
Ex-Aid is still one of my fav KR seasons, and as well as the one I always get people to watch first. Because if they can get over the language barrier, the odd humor and designs and see for what it truly is? As a great series about doctors, life/death, and the dream to help people no matter what? They're going to have a great time with it but also with the rest of KR as well. And so far? I've never had someone regret or drop out of it when binging the series. :3

I had no idea what a common rider was until three months ago when your A history of Kamen rider video appeared in my suggested. Somehow I ended up watching all of build including it’s movies loving everything about it. Thank you for introducing me to Kamen Rider.
This was my first Japanese kamen rider show that I watched and I havent regretted it at all. This was a fun show with some of the best insert songs in all of Kamen rider. Im so glad they keep bringing back Dan Koruto in other show with Outsiders the most recent one.
19:35 Yeah, I always called that out. Taiga got fired for failing to save a patient. As if that hasn't happened to any doctor before. Also, the bugster virus and bugsters were something completely new and never seen before, so you can't just blame anyone for failing against a new kind of epidemic on the first try without further studying. So all and all, it's the hospital own damn fault they made an enemy out of an ally.
Going to say this, Ex-aid was my first actual introduction to the franchise and i loved all of it. The bright neon suits, the effects, the music, the story and villains, it just screams, "WE'RE HERE FOR FUN!" It is still one of my favorites to this day [not as much as OOOs but it still has a special place in my heart] and when i saw the other seasons, it awaken something in me, my burning joy that hasn't been lit since disney era power rangers. I'm currently and very much enjoying Gotchard, insanely excited to see what the story brings me in the future. And if you were wander what brought me to kamen rider, it was random clips of Amazons which were in japanese and i couldn't read it until i found one with a english title and that was during a itch for tokusatsu content which i didn't know what that was at the time.
I like Hibiki and Ex-Aid are out in comparison with one another and then they get combined as a best match for the Gotchard legend chemies in Taiko Gamer
I know older fans probably like care for the suit design of this series, but for me personally, it's so cool looking. This was my first ever Kamen Rider. I saw the opening on UA-cam back in 2021, decided to watch it, loved it, and started looking into more KR series. And the opening was just fantastic too, as well as the rider jingles. I can't tell you how often I think of these particular jingles when I think of Kamen Rider.
Fun fact: there was an Idol College member named Ruuka Matsuda. She graduated from the group on October 31, 2021, exactly one day after the birthday of Ruka Matsuda

I questioned all the side projects but then I realized it wouldn't be a proper video game series without bonus content available for additional charges.
The Christmas Special, much like every other special episode that Ex-Aid has, feels like the writer resented having to do them. They feel like they were written out of obligation with them being confined to a small section of the episode and tied into some of the darkest scenes in the series.
Kabuto was my first Kamen rider and it was because of your retrospective I watched it so thank you. Then I watched your podcast which mentioned ex aid. And before it hit spoiler territory I gave it a shot. And I gotta say it felt like a kamen rider series made for me. I am a huge gamer dork. So seeing the bright colors the homages to different genres of video games, interspersed with serious plot points really drew me in. This series quickly became my favorite the characters are great the development is solid. And poppy is amazing and cute and should be protected at all costs. So thank you Marco for showing me one of my favorite kamen rider shows to date. Also I want a bugger driver and gashat for dangerous zombie. That call hits so hard and I love it. One last thing fun fact and this may be speculation. But Taiga design reminds me of a homage of the main character from the anime Blackjack. A back alley disgraced doctors who helps people no matter the situation. Sounds familiar huh? They even have the same hairstyle.
watching this as i finish up prep for christmas dinner. I got into the series through Gaim thanks to a friend of mine. Together, we've been going through a lot of Heisei and Showa era shows and Ex-Aid was the second one. It holds a special place in my heart for being a show that knew how to make me smile and laugh and absolutely tear at my heart when it wanted to. The movies were also very fun, but my single gripe is that the Pac-Man gashat was teased as a big deal down the line, but never ended up doing anything

I always had a feeling the reason why yo kai watch was not successful in america because of four reasons. 1.the comperison to pokemon. 2.the japanese culture it had. 3.2016 was not a kind for ghost themed anything in media especially the 2016 ghostbusters movie. 4.america:whats a yo-kai Whats a paladin.
Grafite is tevhnicly form of copper, coal so you can kind of connect it with firey dragon, but also itw was times where griffite was a buzz word as a future of semi-conductors and electronics
I know the Drago Knight Hunter Z thing was a bit to get more interaction, but hearing DKHZ be called a fighting game really hurt my soul as a Monster Hunter fan. But it is what it is.
Say what you want about how long it's been, the suits, whatever, but for me, getting through Ex-Aid was a satisfying one and suprisingly, I feel like it holds up after 7 years. The tone of this show is perfectly balanced, which makes it a fun watch. Characters are very compelling and well-rounded by the end. Suit designs are fitting for the show's aesthetics and... I actually love the bright colours. As more shows have come out, Ex-Aid's one of my to reccomendations.
This and Build are my favorites. One aspect you may disagree is that despite Emu being the main character and having a good arc. It feels at least to me that the rest of the cast is better and overshadows him. Build felt more balanced with everyone but here I liked almost everyone(there are exceptions) more than Emu.
i have alot of gemn stuff now, the gashat the action figure his ultimate form from the recent specials and his progrise key. i love the kamen rider version of waluigi. actually I love this whole cast- and my favorite is the bike.

You know, one thing i like about the Neo Heisei era of Kamen Rider is the sheer amount of creativity pourred into the seasons. I mean just look at Ex-Aid. The idea of Kamen Rider seasons that combined video games & medical drama is wierd, but somehow the team behind it did a good job blending these two contrasting theme perfectly
Truth to be told, I'm both excited and curious about Ex-Aid when his design came out first back then, especially with how it'd play out its game themes. My favorite forms are the Drago Knight Hunter Gamer and the Legend Rider Gamers, with the latter being fitting enough as Ex-Aid and Ghost are a part of Kamen Rider's 45th Anniversary project. I also love how Lazer play out his forms btw, especially with him being a bike that gains armored limbs for his next forms.
Ex-aid is not my favorite season but you know what I still had fun with it and I feel like Kaiju no Kami was unfair in his review. And what comes down to it was his expectations. Don't expect something that happens in a comedy movie about videogames to happen in a kids tv show.
