Great movie. I got emotional when Ray had the talk with Sunburn and said "alot of the time you think your life is the worst but if you look in their closet you wouldn't trade your shit for theirs" I wish I had someone tell me that when I was a teenager.
Yeah, we all wish. Now it's kinda of our turn to tell that younger people as well as ourselves
Iv seen this movie about 23 times and I love watching it but watching the trailer get me emotional idk why
Hurts
Im the same age as sunny. seen this movie at 13 glad i did. im 16 now
@@alynag5332 crazy you comment this today. I just watched it again last night. it was on one of the American movie channels. That American Honey is a good movie too. Lead character roles reversed from Male to female. Id compare the Sunburn life advice scene to "Bruce Springsteen Dream baby dream" scene on American Honey.
Who ever put this trailer together deserves an Oscar in itself 👏🏻
Lmao nah. All these scenes depicts every piece of settings in the movie

Edgy Carl Which makes me want to see it more??
Edgy Carl how was the movie was it good?
Seth Andrade it’s very good
When we are kids all we wanna do is grow up, then when we are adults we realize how much we miss our childhood
Yeah thats so true its kinda ironic because when u are an adult u gotta pay bills and rent and insurance this and that and there goes your paycheck... like where's the freedom ... if u dont have a decent paying job ur stuck w that life
XxKazxX XxxX Yeah but even if you have a good paying job you are so busy with life and that innocence that you had as a kid is gone forever
Honestly, when I was I kid, I wanted to grow up and be an adult already but now as a teenager at 16 years old, I really wish I could've enjoyed my childhood and middle school years more. I know I'm still young but I kind feel like I wasted my childhood. I kinda wish I could go back to being 14 years old
Girl Janis you are still young enjoy it. Hangout with friends and make memories because when you are older the memories are very important
@@rmhd7550 Yoo same. Im 17 and i feel like social media has such a great influence on how we feel about growing up. Im still reminiscing about my younger days back in the early 2010s. Dont really want to grow up, and the only thing thats pushing me to grow up is that i want to move out cuz i have big family and want some privacy. So its balanced. But yes, I feel like I wasted my childhood as well by just playing games on my phone which ironically i still do. But middle school years were the best for me!
They really hit the 90s so authentic to the point they actually used 1990s hollywood cameras to film this. It was so weird watching this because it felt like a film from 1993 or 1995 all day long
It blows every other nostalgic flick out of the water. I was born in early 80s and it just nails absolutely everything, the grainy 4:3 image, the music, the clothes, the posters on the walls, the CDs, the pop culture references... It's absolutely mesmerising to watch, and kudos to those actors who managed to re-create an era they've never known.
@@KafkaDatura yeah I was born in 83 and I just felt like I was 13 again watching this.

Only 90s kids will remember this movie
TheGamerFromMars I know right the 90s is the great era
*80s kids were also 90s kids yo
I remember seeing Dazed and Confused, in the theater, and enjoying it quite a bit, as the town I lived in was much like in the film.
The 90s had a nostalgic rebirth, and blending of hippie, goth, punk, and hip hop culture come together.
There were all the clicks, including the skaters, but I had friends in every group, dated girls from every group.
Our town would put up the no skateboarding signs everywhere their was a gathering. But there were a few that the city would leave alone, to control all the trespass calls. Cops would usually, just take your board, and make you get your parents bring you to get it back.
There were some crazy guys, that would threaten to shoot you if you skated the rail at their business.
What I remember most fondly, was all the great bands, I got to see from 90-97ish. The first three Lollapaloozas were really awesome.
I really fuckin love the 90s but im a 2000 kid.... 90s seems like a fun time
This is a rip off of the movie “kids”.
It's been almost 5 years and this is still one of the best coming of age films EVER MADE. The fact that Jonah Hill made this himself makes it even better. Hollywood doesn't deserve the creativity Jonah possesses and I'm PRAYIN that A24 green-lights any project he puts his mind to. Plus to see the actors come a long way since here makes me so proud. Sunny Suljic with God Of War, Ryder McLaughlin with Kenobi, Alexa Demie with Euphoria. Jonah really made this his ultimate passion project n didn't miss a beat with casting, vibe, story and period accuracy.
frrr
No doubt Hill great actor. But can’t praise him on accuracy when he writes movie based alot on his childhood. Including the accident that he almost lost arm. Yet he cast that small kid? Respect him for talking about his weight issues and struggles and lost a lot it. Accuracy is the thing lacking in this film.
The disrespect to mel brooks and spaceballs smh
Wish this movie was longer 😭😭
I know I was bawling because I wanted more even just a reaction to the fourth grade's film would of been all I needed.

Was JUST thinking this
A24 and IFC have some of my favorite films
is it weird that i trust jonah hill to make a great film even though he isnt known as a director?
gotta start somewhere and this seems like a good ass start
no it's not weird. All of his experiences on set as an actor has prepared him for this moment. He knows what the rhythms of shooting a good movie opposed to a bad one should be like on set during filming. He's worked with great directors before. He was once a kid, acting, so should know how to work with them to try and get best performances possible. He grew up during the 90s. Hip hop is his first love so he is definitely going to treat the hip hop music selections with care, he got Reznor to do the score. Skating is a big part of the film as well obviously, so he's gonna make sure that is treated with love as well. He probably spent 3-4 years writing the script and it's his first attempt at directing. I'm sure he wanted to get it right plus working with A24 and they know how to put writers and directors in the position to make a great film. I'm excited for the movie and excited for Jonah. He seems like a genuine person, I think that's key to being a successful writer, director. He may end up being a better writer and director than actor. Here's to hoping this is a great start to a second career for Jonah!
Michael Miramontes I felt the same way
Listen to him on the breakfast club learned a lot about him on that show been working on this film for 3 years and based on his life
Or what he experienced as a kid not his true story don’t get that confused
also wow can i just say i love the color grading in this?? very subtle, but it really feels like i'm flipping through a photo album from the 90s
Haha^
BADFILMSATLANTA But 16mm? Only heard of 70 and 35 mm lol

@Thot Slayer Oregon
Born in '85. Divorced parents, abuse. An older step brother who used to lift me up by the throat and slam me. Self-harmed, ended up in A&E with nerve damage in my hand. Once tried ending it. Looking up to skaters - then being accepted by them - gave me an outlet; an identity. It being England, we skated mostly carparks, doing flatland stuff and trying to jump stairs. I wasn't the best. It didn't matter. I filmed mates jumping 10-sets on mini DV. Bernys Blades and Osiris D3s were the sickest shit you could own. A mate gave me his old Etnies deck which still had some pop. Without realising it skating gave me something to focus on and bridged a gap in my life. 20-odd years later, I'm a dad now and life is so much better than I ever thought it could be. Watched this movie - fell apart. Still do every time. Glad it exists. Thanks Jonah.
sounds like yo life nee to be a movie
The fact that Jonah Hill is focusing on the greatest era in skateboarding and using real skateboarders (from Sunny, Nakel, and Olan) and actual skate spots is dope as hell. I honestly can't wait for this
Jay Gomez no wonder the acting was shit dope
As someone who isn't involved with the scene why was that era considered great for skateboarding?
cmy3k 80s was better solely bc of the bones brigade. However, the 90s is what pushed skating to where it is today
I always like Kareem Cambell, thought that dude was dope as hell on a skateboard
cmy3k CCS mail catalogs lol. But really, some of the best skate videos were made during that time, and it was more about having fun with the sport and not the corporate behemoth it is today. Most of the big skate companies were thriving while still being independently owned and Nike SB and Adidas hadn't taken over the market yet. Even the warped tour was still centered around the skate and punk scenes of the time.

I can relate to this movie so much it was almost hard to watch. Being 13, sleeping on the floor of my friend's house after dropping acid and smoking weed for the first time... Waking up just as the sun was beginning to rise and all of us skating off into the day.
That's all we did. skate. Nothing else mattered. Well maybe getting as wasted as possible. And Connor, who couldn't do any tricks but filmed everything. There was a lot of suffering in most of our home lives but none of that mattered the second you arrived at the spot.
Its so true same here w my older friends... we just use to chill and smoke and drink beers... i just smoke squares they smoke weed... they would skate too i never really learned 😅... we just talked n laugh at ourselves n my depression was better somehow... for 2yrs I was best friends w those guys but after a tragedy happened the crew split...we were never the same... i never saw those guys again since they left and I went into deep depression n drop out of high school... so much shyt happened... never told anyone what happened... to this only my best friend knows...
The first paragraph was literally everything I did too..
Meanwhile when I was 13 I was playing barbies at my friends sleepovers 😭
i hate how sad and normal this is
I can also relate to this I mean cuz I’m 13 and doing all of what this movie is, this movie is real man it, it’s real
god bless my older sister for sneaking me into the premiere of this movie on a school night when i was grounded. 😂
VHS release is a MUST 📼

the special edition orange vhs for sure

Jonah Hill killed it with the directing with this film. A lot of stuff hits close to home with Stevies character. The self destructive mentality throughout hit me pretty hard..
The scene where he was hurting himself with the hairbrush, after stealing from his mother. and choking himself with the game controller wire brought on some past emotions in my own life.
The entire story was well put together, and what was more impressive is how realistic the ending was, wasnt over the top, nor anti clemactic, it was just life.
Great film.
Well Done Jonah.
I know the older brother was a complete jerk but I actually felt bad for him.
Chastity Creamer he was a dick cause he cared about stevie
The scene where Stevie yells at him and he cries hit me
Chastity Creamer that’s the point. He didn’t know how to express how he felt. He was trapped and was hurting the ones he loved.
and im pretty sure he got abused cuz he said "mom was diffrent and used to smoke"
That's the exact point. Him and stevie are having a conversation he says mom was different when he was younger, he said he heard them shagging a lot (lol.
Also or the older brothers birthday their mother talks about what she was doing at his age, being pregnant at such a young age and raising a child they hint that she probably wasnt a good mother, hence the older broth being the way he is.

Bo Burnham, Paul Dano, and now Jonah Hill? So many first time actor-turned-director movies this year (and they're all getting a lot of buzz!)
DrDman2000 John Krasinski too with Quiet Place
Yeah and man they are all so freakin young! They probably gonna be big sometime
two of them at A24 ;)
Paul best distributor and producer today
Don't forget Jordan Peele
This is exactly what it was like. The Shorty's t-shirt, the crews, the mentality. It was the best time of my life. There are no cell phones so, no internet really. You could just live in the moment. I felt free
90’s was the best time to be a kid
@@omidfilms exactly 👍
Laura Bennet 💯
Lol. 80s were way better.
looks and feels a lot like the mid 80s. really not much difference between those two periods if u were a skater kid other than clothing styles and trick progression.
Only A24 would let Jonah Hill write and direct a film that's not a comedy, but a drama. And only A24 might actually come out with an amazing result out of it.
They did
I just said the same thing
Dude as long as it’s a24 it’s amazing
Nicolai Marquez ol km to get to work .
One of the best coming of age movies ever! It's amazing how everyone's role fit so well. Even the older brother. The whole aesthetic done very well
Way underrated. This is mandatory viewing for anyone born in or raised in the 90's. Possibly the best coming-of-age film I've ever seen.
I cant say I can relate to a getto upbringing. But I guess they prefer to make movies about those neighborhoods because there's more drama to catch there.
@@rovhalt6650 Watching some kids ride circles in a cul-de-sac and occasionally playing sonic isn't great viewing.
@Pr0D1GY taking shots on a 7 month old comment? Obviously you can make a good film out of anything as it's just a setting and not a narrative. Some settings are innately more interesting than others though but that's a matter of taste and dependent on the individual.
@Pr0D1GY Maybe a short comment on a youtube video doesn't encompass the entirety of someone's opinions.
I have never been to america but this trailer made me feel what it must be like growing in the mid 90s in LA. lots of love from India
Pretty much
It was a great time to be alive that's for sure, wouldn't trade those years for anything.
gang shit
Definitely seeing this once it hits Blockbuster
🤙
DX why u gotta make me feel things
There's still one out there. I shit you not.
😂
You know. There’s actually still one left.
Probably my favorite trailer of all time
They even made it look like a 90s film with the low quality 🎥
I don't think the 90s film quality was LOW. It just wasn't 4K. A lot of great quality footage exists from DECADES before the 1990s. When were you born ?
William Levy '95 dude, yes u are correct but what I'm saying is if u look at how the film quality is compared to how film quality's is in today's time.....u get that 90s feel 📟📼🥋
That is the difference from film and digital. Everything today is shot digital. This movie is shot on super 16 film. Personally I enjoy the look of film over digital.
thanks for pointing this out man, I have never noticed that! you should be a move critic cuz i sure tell ya you got the eye for this kinda thing!
Lol color grade is great
Skaters, 90's, A24, Jonah Hill? Take my money now please.
why did this almost make me cry???
cause you like the most of the kids are from a generation of lamers and cry babies...that's why you wanna cry! Conan don't cry so you cry for him.
milk808 what
I did tear up
milk808 shutup boomer
milk808 I lost brain cells by reading your comment😂😂
Did this kid win any awards because his acting looks insane I haven’t even seen the movie
I knew it was authentic when I saw that shortys shirt haha. I’m so excited for this movie
Hell yeah thinking the exact same thing!
Hell yea Im Santa Barbara born and raised so Shortys was our shit!!!
nathan ives which shirt exactly ?
Anthony Marqueno r u trolling ?
I saw the old school 7-eleven Big Glup cups.
I'm feeling what 80 kids felt when they saw stranger things
there's no difference.80's kids were still basically kids in the 90's, only able to drink and screw.
Anything shot on 16mm makes me feel warm and nostalgic.
My childhood was similar, I'm 25 now live on my own, going to the skate park tomorrow morning at 6 am with some friends. This movie means a lot to me.
The shortys and girl skateboards shirts are straight outta 1996!
David Galluzzo WE STILL ROCKIN THEM SHITS THO
Yup! Love this!
they need some Jncos
"Church of Skatan" shortys t in my closet. Good thing I wore oversized shirts like a jackass back then.
blind decks got me fucked too
Did you see how fast his brother threw him into the wall? That looked like it would have hurt a lot
Yeah seriously though, that's some serious domestic violence right there.
I'm just hoping they got that in one take
It was sped up
Growing up with a brother five years older than me...I can relate hahaha. Good times
its all good they used special rubber walls so it wouldnt hurt
The whole movie theater is gonna be filled with skaters 😂
right
😂
Myzell De La Fuente lol me included
Me right here used to skate got kids now still got my alien workshoo in my closet from 2008 :(
Or posers
1:12 - 2:20 - Music: Omega (Hungarian Rock Band): Gyöngyhajú lány (English: Pearl-haired girl), The Scorpions were also processed, White Dove song title. The Omega band would have been 60 this year. Unfortunately, 2 members of the founders died in 2020 (Benkő László, Mihály Tamás), and in 2021 the frontman, singer Kóbor János. Thus, Omega, the Hungarian rock band that was known throughout Europe in the 1970s and 1980s, ended its career. The music for the song was written by Presser Gábor, who was an Omega composer in the early years of Omega. The Hungarian lyrics of the song were written by Adamis Anna.
I love mid 90s...it's every skate moment I can remember ... 90s hip hop,skate shop.,sipping on 40s..house parties...homies chilling sneaking out the house..ahhh the 90s.
I wasn't really around in the 90's (born in 1996) but it's funny how similar it stayed into the late 2000's. This is exactly how the guys I skated with were, how we kind of rolled. Poor kids during the recession, rolling around town, listening to 90's stuff like Wu Tang and what not.
I haven't skated in years, but I sometimes get nostalgic. I sometimes want to grab a board I bought and find people to skate with, but all the old guys are in jail or just fell off or if smart moved on to careers (can't blame them, can't stay down there).
It'll definitely be a good movie I think.
Miss Melle and that’s why there was such a big decline in the sport.
Miss Melle Yeah. Looking back, a lot of the other skaters I met were pretty shitty people. Vandals, trespassers, etc. Constantly doing drugs and assaulting people.
Damaging property (graffiti, rubbing butter on concrete or other stuff to grind and breaking the stuff, seriously scratching up and denting rails that were often new, costing tons), doing drugs, shoplifting, etc.
John Meda I just started skating again after a 20 year break, best decision I ever made. Just find a good local park.. there’s nothing but love from the people you’ll meet
ULOVEKYLE I was kinda thinking the same thing :/ but then again everyone experiences a decade or year differently
Pedro Gunderson mid 90s are 94 95 96
Westcoast version of Kids?
I hope. on everything
I was thinking of the PG version of kids
Jonah Hill just remade Kids
Basically
Yeah
i watch this trailer so fuckin often
I'm just waiting for the early 2000's nostalgia wave to hit Hollywood...it's going to be awful
Spiked Hair, Cornrows, Baggy Fubu Jerseys, whatever women were calling fashion by spalshing every shiny color they could find and sweat suits. Cant wait
lolol, Tid Pods would be Mid 2010s though
White oversized sunglasses and T-shirts that come down to the tongue of your shoes
Yo that era is gonna be tight dawg!
Yup they’ll be playing Soul Calibur on Dreamcast or GTA III on PS2 in that movie. Lookin like they came straight out of American Pie n shit
People don’t think the 60s 70s 80s or 90s were good, they just recognize that life’s been getting pretty shitty with everyone’s need to document everything. What you do in public now isn’t just confined to the people around you. There’s the idea that everything you do is now everyone’s business
Ok ngl that's kinda true my friends and I just bike around and do shit like it was a simpler time and it sucks, like seriously people's have just recorded us having fun instead of doing it themselves
Born in 82, Listened to hip hop starting in 91, started skating in 94. This movie is really accurate. SOOOO glad I got to experience this first had.
The 90's were everything we will never have again. Born 84 and damn happy i've been young mid 90's early 2000
Me: can’t skateboard and didn’t grow up in the 90’s
Also me: I will watch this movie everyday until I die.
You would have loved that decade. It was one long party and a lot of epic music.
This movie made me feel so many different emotions, it was seriously an amazing movie
I really enjoyed this film when I first saw it because it so closely mirrored my own life. I was a 90’s kid about the same age as Stevie. I came up in urban skater culture with a mix of friends my age and older and we did all the same stuff portrayed in the film plus worse. Honestly it’s kind of amazing that I lived to the age I am now considering so many of my friends from back then are now gone for good because they fell harder into drugs and the whole lifestyle than I did even though I was right there with them through it.
That said this movie also depresses the shit out of me because those days are gone forever and I miss them and can never go back. It would be pretty fucking weird for 40 year old me to show up at a skate park today after all. Life’s just boring now and I don’t don’t know what to look forward to anymore. For those of you who are still young and out there living the life enjoy it because you’re gonna miss it like Hell one day and you can never go back.
N Williams i hope you’re doing alright man, hang in there. There’s always shit to do, no matter what age. Try and do new stuff, make changes to your lifestyle. If you ever need anything reach out to those around u
Dude, nothing wrong with a 40 year old at the park, especially when they're down to earth. I love seeing old souls shredding at the park man.
I feel exactly like you, came up the same way and I lost a lot of friends, sort of a "survivors guilt".
N Williams yeah well I missed out on it so I wouldn't know
I am 25 and I feel like I should do things that I wanna do before I become 30s.
I never heard of this movie before, and now I want to see it. All this 90s shit makes me want to go back in time.
Wtf can they make more movies like this
I wish.
if they did, movies like this wouldn't be as special.
Nah cause this movie has a special element that no other movie could replicate
