I really just couldn't get the glidepath fix and would just keep going over the nav points. Essentially the approach mode would never go active to control my decent. After tons of research I found this is a common problem in MSFS2020 especially with the G1000. The issue it turns out is that the glidepath intercept is lower than indicated on the landing plates. Just going a few hundred feet or so (sometimes more) the indicated intercept point I found the glidepath would catch and start to bring me down and everything worked from there. Hope this saves some others the frustration i had after hours of repeated attempts without success. IF YOU DONT CATCH THE GLIDEPATH AND THE PLANE WONT DESCEND ON ITS OWN, INTERCEPT THE GLIDEPATH AT A LOWER ALTIDUDE.
Thank you very much for this! I've been meaning to set some time aside to learn how to read approach plates and execute an RNAV approach, so this is really helpful. Cheers mate!
Great vid. However, some crucial initial steps appeared to be missing for newbies to follow. Tried the identical Flight Plan but wasn't able to fly on magenta line on GPS only as you appeared to. Do you need to engage NAV + AP?
Excellent, no nonsense video as usual. You make it look so easy! I’m ok with ILS and RNAV, but my landings are still rubbish. You don’t seem to flare back as much as I do, so I’m going to try your way.

Hey man greetings from Cork. Quick question. Do you load the flight plan from airport to airport GPS and when the game starts you add just the approach ? Or start without any flight plan ? Thanks
so looks like RNAV landing is the same as ILS ? I came here because I'm doing my first 4h flight and no ils but only RNAV available and I said to myself ok now I have 3h to find out how to land lol
Rnav basically the same apart from it disengage at minimus where eyou need to land where is can take you all the way in and autoland with some air raft
No. Because not all RNAV has vertical (glide path) navigation. You have to manually manage the glide path using the chart, the GPS will not do it if the RNAV you're using doesn't support all the newer features for LNAV. Bottom line: RNAV approaches have a supported category on the chart, the ONLY categories that support vertical navigation are: LPV and LNAV/VNAV. If the only category is LNAV, then that RNAV approach does NOT have vertical support. So no, not all RNAV = ILS, it depends on the airport and also the number and quantity of satellites you have a signal from.
Yeah, I don't think it's that you see the light, think you have to see the end of the runway at minimums, otherwise you see the light. but a good walkthrough.
It's great when this works :-) Well explained. I'm still trying to work out why it doesn't catch the GP sometimes. You said LOAD the approach in. When would you ACTIVATE it if ever?
@@InsideAgameR I take it turning APR mode on is the same as ACTIVATE in the procedures menu? I do use APR mode. I just don't know what activate in the proc menu does. Cheers!

@@InsideAgameR Got it thanks. Activate just puts you on the right route. APR mode tries to get the glide path. For some reason I dont seem to ever catch the GP in a Cessna 172 but will keep trying. Worked first time in a DA40NG.
@@stovic1442 mfs can be a bit funny are you down at right height doesn't hurt go bit lower so if approch is 3000 come in at 2800 some times mfs not working properly
I can't see why anyone landing in zero vis would take over from the ap prior to seeing at least the runway approach lights. It is a good way to lose visual bearing of where the runway actually is. A gust of wind and now you're looking off to the side expecting to see the runway which could be 10 or more degrees off where you think it is. The GPS would be too sensitive at this point to resolve that. Best wait for a visual before disengaging ap on rnav. Even then you might lose them in a sudden downpour. In bad weather it is best practice to utilise every assistance to ensure an accurate landing. Just sayin'. Cheers
