First I saw a Bronco model kit on the shelf behind you guys when you were reviewing the new releases. Back in 1983 I had a 1970 Bronco, 302 V8, 3 speed on the tree, had the same cab top with open bed, mine was green & white. Loved that truck, sold it in 1995, guy rolled it 4-wheeling 4 months after he bought from me. It was a total loss except for the tires. 😢
About my stash, it's in the garage where my work bench is located. +700 kits, mostly 1/35 scale plastic figure kits, Dragon, miniart, tamiya, masterbox, etc. But there is a collection of 1/35 Scale M4 vehicles as well other USA WWII vehicles. A few german vehicles. A large collection of 1/72 scale cold war jet & helicopters. A much smaller selection of 1/48 scale WWII aircraft, mostly USN & USMC types. And few 1/72 scale star wars. This is build collection, not collecting purposes. But I will never get them all built, early one I could build & paint a kit in a very short, now they take weeks if not months to complete. Oh well I love this hobby, including the history Part of it.

Great info for sanding sticks! I had to get in some really interesting places so I took sprue and cut the sprue at a couple different angles, then using CA to glue a little patch of sandpaper to the end.

Great heads-up. And especially appreciate the fact that you fellows don't take yourselves too seriously and make the ideas of modeling actually fun. Content is good and vontinues to give a good glimpse of "whats in the box!" See you at 2025 Nationals! "The Beatles!"

I currently have about 100 kits in my stash; mostly 1/35 WWII armor and figures, and 1/48 aircraft. I keep them on bookshelves and inside a cabinet in my basement. I keep track of them on Scalemates. I am still expanding my stash as long as I have room left on the book shelves...which is not much.

I moved 40 kits when I took a new job over 30 years ago. Having a job that paid pretty well but did not provide an abundance of free time prompted the stash growing to just over 1000 kits. I have tried to do a reasonable job of storing kits of the same genre together. While the majority of my stash consists of aircraft, there are also armor, figures, real space, monsters, cars, and even some sci-fi sprinkled in.

Your comment about the only other offering of an F-86 in 1:48 being an anxient Lindberg one made me do a double-take, because I checked my stash (see what I did there?) and sure enough, there was my 1:48 Airfix Canadair Sabre F.4 (released in 2021) and I'm pretty sure they released a 1:48 F-86F-40 in 2022, so.............?🤷‍♂ Unless your comment was specific to just the F-86A variant?
Speaking of the stash, I keep mine inventoried in a database with fields for pix of the box art, built model, and any re-builds (I started modelling when I was REALLY young, so sometimes I go back and give my particularly bad early "rush" jobs a new lease on life), and I'm up to 640, including 67 built, meaning 570 left in the stash. Mostly aircraft with themes (e.g. currently working on the pioneers of civil aviation), and then a few of everything else. My modelling room is the spare bedroom in the basement, and the stash resides floor-to-ceiling in multiple bookcases that I put up inside its walk-in closet, so they're mostly out of the way. I export my inventory from the database as a pdf and keep it on my phone to avoid duplicating purchases.
P.S. Love the Canada mug, eh?🙂

On the subject of sanding, a full sheet taped onto a granite tile from the homecenter is very useful for leveling large resin parts. On a smaller scale, a 3/4 inch chunk of Plastruct 3/8" H beam is very handy when combined with a cheaper pair of self locking tweezers (the angled type). You take a 3/4" strip of water grit you want, wrap it around the bottom of the H beam, and then clamp in place with the tweezers. Great for getting into tight places, and you can use larger or smaller beams as needs dictate.

I used to have a huge stash of kits, but as I wasn't building them i figured i might as well get something for them. At the time it helped a lot, though I expect that some would be worth a lot more now. I have started rebuilding the stash.
Like tim i don't count figures in terms of stash content, which is probably a good thing as they grow every week i swear, especially as my partner does them too.
This doesn't of course also factor the model railway collection, which fills an entire wardrobe even with selective purchasing, oops!

My stash contains 11 model kits and 14 figure kits. My management technique is that all my kits must fit inside 2 lower cabinets in my built-in bookcase in my hobby room. I don't allow myself to spill outside of this physical constraint. My build rate is typically 3-4 kits per year, so I'm sitting on ~ 3yrs of hobby time.

The stash officially has 177 kits, as catalogued using Scalemates. Those are kept in a converted bedroom closet, with some overflow into the shelves in the model room. I also have another 60 or so out in my detached workshop; haven't got around entering them into the database yet.

I have a spreadsheet that I try to keep up to date with my kit purchases. I currently have 183 on the list but I'm sure I've forgotten to add a few. The main reason I've done this is because I know I'll never build them all before I leave this mortal realm. The list is for my family. They'll know how much they're worth on ebay so that they can resell them on ebay. I've also put little dot stickers on each kit with the price and year that I priced them on ebay, also as an ad in reselling them. My stash is mostly in a closet in my build room, but I have some in the basement too.

I am at about 120-125 kits, mostly civilian vehicles, with some aircraft an a couple of armour mixed in. I organized them by what I wanted to build first, based on interest or themes (e.g. common themes like a could of gasser models), then placed them in containers that had the ones I wanted to do first in one container, then the rest in a descending timeline. Keep a list of what is where in a Onenote file.

I'd really love to build the Dune ornithopter, but, man, that is a hefty price tag.
Since returning to the hobby about 3 years ago after an ~ 25 year hiatus, my stash has grown to about 130 unbuilt kits plus some figures. Primarily WW2 and newer aircraft, all in 1/72 scale. That's because I like the idea of displaying same-scale models once they're built. It makes for an interesting way to talk about them when visitors stop by the house. For the same reason, all my armor and military vehicles are 1/35. Last from a numerical standpoint are sci-fi and dinosaur kits. (We need more of the latter, in my opinion.) No real organization beyond the biggest and sturdiest boxes go on the bottom of the stacks kept in an upstairs closet and on an old baker's rack in the bedroom. Well, I take that back. I do have a few stacked together by type, primarily P-51's and F-4's.
I do intend to build the majority of those ~ 130 kits, but some were purchased for resale when (if) I'm able to open my own model shop after retiring from my career in a few years. "Buy 'em cheap and stack 'em deep!"

So 600 kits? That is not a bad start at all to a proper stash! LOL As someone mentioned, they know someone that has a stash north of 5k. Mine is about that. Organization?? Between my apartment and garage, sometimes it takes me a couple days to find a kit that is buried.

I have no idea how many I have in my stash. I have 6 1m cubed removal boxes filled with aircraft, tanks, and railway related kits; (I box is just for 1:144 fighters). Then there are the other boxes filled with more kits... On the Hornby: a Model world TV series someone (I think it was the guy that build their display models) referred to their collection as SABLE (Stash Accumulated Beyond Life Expectancy), and I know that they had fewer kits than I. What I have recently realised is that all the stash kits are easy to pack away into the space(s) available, whereas if I were to get to build them all, the space required would be considerably greater , and more susceptible to damage. This is causing a bit of a dilemma ... 🙂

In keeping with Professor Tim's minutes of minutia on miniatures, well, no, I won't do that. My stash consists of collecting 1/72 scale SE Asia aircraft of the 1960s and '70s boxed and mailed from Alaska that I finally looked at after 30 years in 're-tirement', and later 1/48 scale kits for 3rd BW Korea B-26Cs of Dad's experience, Wayne Smith's PA-18 seaplane (I knew both in Cordova AK, the box art confusing me as it was not the aged bleach red that I was familiar with.), a number of Monogram P-51D Mustangs as test mules for relearning old and learning more recent techniques and materials. Thanks as always for imparting good information and keeping the hobby alive. Sadly, I haven't found a source for acrylic model paints in my city this year, so I may have to resort to Lowe's, Homme Depot, or Ace Hardware, unless I drive across the border (no passport required... yet.)🥱

Stash.....1200ish, however I own a hobby shop, which is probably the worst thing to happen to my stash, as I can buy it for myself at cost.
Seems like a lot (and it is), but I have a couple of customers that blow that (and most people) out of the water). One probably has over 5000 kits, another told me about 8yrs ago they had about 1700, and I know what they have bought since, so they are likely north of 3000 kits now easy.
Stash follows the Tetris method, not really organized otherwise. Used to be, have a wall of car kits, couple shelves with big rigs, etc, etc, but you eventually run our of room in those locations and the rest just get mixed.
That number also doesn't count decal sets, add on sets, resin figures, etc, etc,
    PS bring back Kendra!

I think it's important to alert people to the different categories of sanding paper and their designations. If a person mix and matches anding product they'll need to know there's a lot of cross over and it can be causing them a lot more work if they don't know a 600 grit for instance in the US might be a 1250 or something European. Micro Mesh as a good conversion chart but if you don't know there's different ways to measure grit then it's not something you're aware might be problematic.

I've found a problem in the fact that the grade may change through différent brands, and unfortunately in the 400 to 600 grit, not in the 80 one to sand woodwork. I also use a variation as I stick the sandpaper to rather stiff foam instead of wood, which allows me some "elasticity". By the way, I would rather apply glue to the stick, press it on the sandpaper, let it dry, then cut the papier. As for kit boxes, I think you will never hear a figure modeler Say to another one " you know that according to Stevenson, Long John Silver was that height, so the figure from... is wrong by 1.24 millimètres. On the other side, I am thinking of Tamiya who produced a new Spitfire years After, and it was better than the former one. Thank you for your channel

I am with Tim. I have never had, nor do I want, a large stash. I have less than a dozen kits on hand. Even that is more than I want to have so I'm building a few before buying anything else. I feel tremendous pressure to build whatever I have on hand and the more there are, the more distracting that self-imposed pressure is. Not sure what drives that, and I definitely see the desire to own much more. As easy as it is to come by just about any kit these days, I let the internet be my stash. Seems that most additions to stashes are new kits that people buy for way too much and then lose interest in. When they inevitably sell them, or their family does, it's at a huge loss. That alone deters me personally. Not judgement of guys with huge stashes, I just don't do it.
