- The late great Robert Palmer & Max Weinberg 7 performing on the Hard Rock Live special which aired 4/20/97.
P.S. The HQ version of this clip was damaged so I originally only posted 4/5 songs from the special. But I recently found a lower quality version (with lots of unfortunate VHS video glitches) on an old HDD. It's not the greatest quality but at least they're all here now.
Anyway, enjoy!
He was underrated. So talented, funky, classy with an amazing stage presence. Ringo Starr and Phish both cover this song among many others. Robert Palmer had True Soul.
Should be on Addictions Vol 1.
And of course original by Lee Dorsey
Nailed it Girl!
@@bapples Allen Toussaint
Grammy must have meant something back then.@@a0799353
This song (original studio version), has him backed up by lowell George and The meters, it's 👏 brilliant!!!
Just discovered this studio track and I agree. It's legendary
He backs up Lowell and the Meters!
Always loved this since it came out (have the album from back then). Wondered why the arrangement is so Little Feat. Who mixed this!? Where are the horns??
💯😎
I'm from NOLA, the home of Allen Touissaint ... who originally wrote this song. The fact that Lowell, the Meters, and Robert came together to record this song is legendary !!
Would have love to have heard Allen and Palmer do this together. On Palmer's album, this is the third song of the famous trilogy, "Sailin' Shoes, Hey Julia, and Sneakin' Sally " The first and third songs were produced by Toussaint at Sea Saint studios. Rock in Peace, Allen, Robert, Lowell George, Richie and Paul.
Robert Palmer was so underrated. He’s the shit. Badass to basically have Conan’s late-90s-early-00s Late Night Show band (w/ Max Weinberg and Jimmy Vivino and co) wailing away one of the great Robert Palmer classic grooves. - RIP and long live Robert Palmer’s music and legacy!
Who is doing the underrating? You? In the 1980s and 1990s, NO ONE underrated Robert Palmer everyone listening to music at that time knew how good he was.
@@buckhorncortezno....He is underated fella. How many people talk about him now? A great and much missed talent.
Nah, he was not underrated at all when I was young. In fact, he was really popular (and rightly so).
@@davecoalwood9487 come on, there’s an entirely different generation now. We’re old.
It’s impossible to find a video of RP when he wasn’t giving an excellent performance.
Agreed, Robert Palmer is missed greatly.
One of my 1st concerts---saw him in 1976 in Atlanta. He opened for Gary Wright. Dreamweaver era. I didn't care about seeing Mr. Wright---& I was not alone in bumming a bit when Mr. Palmer left the stage. He always dressed very classy---especially for back in the day. I miss Robert Palmer.....always felt he was a bit under rated---but I liked his early, before the Addicted To Love days. Addicted To Love was interesting---but like most music from the 80's---we lost quite a lot for a decade. We lost the funk~at the very least! Thank heavens the 90's brought back some swag. Now who knows what 2020's will bring??? Afraid to even look for new music. Maybe I'll just remain in the past :0 Sorry to ramble
@@karenwebbkryder6562 I saw that same concert!
@@kitsybridges1015 Really? Very cool!!!
Yo, That's because they don't exist. ;)
Gone way, way, way too soon, that man was class and style personified!
Such a killer song. These days all my concert memories are more treasured than ever. Saw Robert at the Wiltern in Los Angeles. Incredible band, setting and singer. ✨✨✨
his voice got better with age...more character here than when he first cut this song.... he definately had that special sauce!!
Gone too soon....Happy heavenly birthday Sir.
Robert is something else he's a classy guy but sings pure rock songs, all alone as singer, and he keep going and going you get the feeling he's running you over like a truck.
That was Robert, rocking till you think he can't no more, and then smoothly runs you over. One of the best or the best solo rock singer and handsome I've ever seen. Love you babe. ❤️❤️
Twenty five years later this performance makes me excited. One of my favorite song and performer. Timeless RP groove.
Robert Palmer's music is gold.
not his song...do the research and you will discover a treasure trove of music.
i.e...the meters/lowell george/little feat/alain toussaint and so much more...enjoy :)
Incredible!! Never heard this before. Did not know this was part of the Hard Rock Live performance. Why on Earth is this man not in the RRHOF? Janet Jackson, Joan Baez...? Pathetic.
RP don’t need no stinkin’ hall of fame.
I prefer to think of it as Robert Palmer has chosen to not admit the R&R Hall of Lame. ...CLEAVELAND! Meh. What the hell were they thinking?
RP was class of its own...one and only....he lived for music...
the fuck is the problem with Joan Baez? If folkies like Bob Dylan deserves in then his contemporaries like Baez surely deserve in too.
Joan Baez is not pathetic.
Soulful voice, so underrated.
nope...this is funk dude.
Incomparable Robert still had the funk down decades after this song released.
The best. RIP Robert Palmer.
If they played this at clubs nowadays, I'd be out dancing every weekend.
The drums and horns alone are amazing. The lyrics and voice make it so extra.
A true blue-eyed soul original was Robert Palmer. Great albums and great music always.
this is funk.
RP was such a cool cat...
To be fair,so we're Max Weinberg and the Max Weinberg 7 :)
Never heard this song until it came up on Utube, it has a great groove!
So happy I grew up when music was this great and we had musicians ❤❤❤😊😂
Rest in peace Robert Palmer and fly with the Angels...I still listen to him every day since I was a teenager when my older sister Donna introduced me to him...been hooked ever since....🙏🎵☮
Love this dude's voice and presence....died waaay too young.
I can’t believe how much energy he had & he showed it !!
RP showing his swagger and straight up dapper
Love that sumptuous New Orleans groove.
And a Dixie beer to go with a dressed shrimp po-boy. Oh yeah!
an original who is truly missed
With so much soul always the gentlmen and sharp dresser He had it , taken too soon RIP Robert
... Lowell George was a amazing influence ... and he is still not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ... CRIMINAL !!!!
I must say this. The aspect of wearing the suits with neck tie is very pivotal to what is the image they want to portray.
Total Class. The song isa Classic and the the band is cooking.
What a Class Performance. RIP Robert Palmer.
They did a great job, not an easy song to play!
& Palmer sounds as good as ever.
Classy AF
The 1st time I heard him,I knew he would be GREAT 👍 ❤
Thanks for posting - despite video glitches. Love it!
This video is worth suffering through the occasional flashes of intermittent light. Legend here..
That "light" is from the VCR tracking. Pretty much every old VHS tape does that. Sucky technology, but that's the way it was.
legendary We will never forget !!
And Max Weinberg on drums. Awesome
What a gem. Hadn't seen this before. Thanks! ...RP dapper as always!
Great Video. Thanks for sharing.
Never seen this before;thanks a lot !!! Love Robert Palmer. He was always a pro !.
Saw him five times and the best was the Tower Theater in Philly, front row and he killed it!
I miss him.
Compare this to the 79 live version. 22 years later he still had that distinctive style and booming voice. And he’s better here.
And did any singer ever look better in a tailored suit on stage? Answer is hell no.
Love Robert Palmer's 70s songs...a lot of fun!
He used to be with a band called Vinegar Joe with Elkie Brooks, and quite the hippie type. He totally changed his appearance, wore suits, very clean cut image. He was supporting the Commodores on a UK tour, and I had quite a long conversation with him backstage at the after party. We were all amazed to find he had this broad Yorkshire accent, and he told me he was born in Batley...everyone thought he was American! We had a laugh about that.
What a cool story and thanks alot for sharing. Now I’m trying to imagine Robert as a hippie. Haha. I can’t even imagine him looking any different than the suave crooner that we all know and love.
6:18pm🎉 I Love his music 🎼 filled with energy!! I love all of his music and sometimes sexy,Beautiful, red lipstick 💄 Ladies ❤ I don’t think that I’ll ever get tired of listening and watching him!! Flashy Gorgeous Ladies ❤
Simply “ IRRESISTIBLE “
Undoubtedly a great Chemistry in the House !!!!!!
Thank YOU Mr. PALMER !!!
I would love to be able to as great a performer like him !!
Ohhhhh, yea this is a great version...😍 him soooooooo much!!!!
He’s working hard here! Nailing that soul !!!
Palmer was amazing, no doubt. But gotta say too, the Weinberg 7 was a TIGHT band.
There is a lot of super solid friggin stuff out there, this is the icing on the friggin cake
I salute you for posting the tracks from this epic and masterful concert. Much appreciated!!!
Whew! I remember the very first time I heard this record!
Thanks.
Max isn’t the funkiest drummee, but he gets it done
There is something of irony in that while the album featured either Zig Modeliste or Bernard Purdie on the drums, it was Simon Phillips on the title track.
@@wayneblanchard97 Wow I didn't know that. If you haven't heard Simon on Sukarita by Judie Tzuke that is also outstanding.
@@regaltip8A Thank you for that tip; I've not heard Tzuke for decades. Simon is also great on Tears for Fears blisteringly fine tune 'Year of the Knife'. He's also killer on Jeff Beck's 'There & Back' album, veering from the deep groove of 'The Pump' or the ripping odd-time signatures of 'Space Boogie'. Simon also did three tracks on the Pretenders' 'Get Close' album: 'Tradition of Love', 'When I Change My Life' and 'Hymn to Her'. He is always such a dynamic addition to any musical setting.
Wow! Hot! I have never seen this performance before, and goddamn, I am grooving my ass into the ground . Absolutely fantastic!
The groove and the vocals make it sound like a long lost Rolling Stones song. Nice work.
😂❤ Awesome rhythm & soulful voice 😍 definitely nostalgic 🙏 Rip brother
one artist i never got to see which Is odd as I was a big fan of his 80's output. Sadly gone way to young.
What a funky song and what a great performer, Robert Palmer. That was a great song for the Stones to do ... maybe with Mick Taylor on guitar.
Man this is Gold!
Just absolutely love this!!!
Robert Palmer. A legend Yorkshireman. We love our own.
These Glitches in the video are ON POINT, it's probably not on purpose and just an old video with Glitches here and the but my god this is perfect
Good luck friend 👍👍👍👍👍 keep spirit
Thank You.for sharing 💎
@Greg Normal 💎💎💎
Max layin' that shit down....
Liked his music when I was young. Never appreciated his Amazing songs, style.. just cool.! Gone way too early as many good ones were…❤🎉
Eddie Martinez is killin' on the Strat. What a groove.
I grew up on Roberts old stuff and he is still one of my favorite singers . The players he had in those albums were so bad ass! This performance with Max on drums? Well , Max played it too fast , wrong and crazy stiff.. But I do appreciate the video being uploaded. Robert should have been recognized for his husky soulful vocals and great lyrics. Anyone wants to understand what I’m saying listen to “ Fine Time” great tune....
Max Weinberg zero feel. Completely wrong......he can stick to Springsteen
gorgeous Robert Palmer, August 2020
Such a badass song, hah and Max Weinberg on kit, havent seen him since Conan and Bruce.
Robert Palmer is the fuckn' man!
Looooove this song and album ❤️🔥
Thanks for posting This.
That is a GOOD band.
The first time I ever heard this song was from Bruce Hornsby when he played locally in Virginia before his Way It Is fame put him in the public eye.
CLASS 100%. Incredible performer
Huge talent way under rated
Amazing human..mix of R & B, soul with jamaican beat...dang
I was only familiar with his pop hits. I never knew he was so very talented...
The funk just drips off this song, and RP is the perfect guy to perform it. Gone too soon.
Saw him live in Leicester many years ago, great voice
Wow. Mighty Max Weinberg.
Saw him at Bimbos SF along with Jackie Lomax & The Tubes. Think this was back in ‘76 ? Awesome show….
Robert Palmer was always such a classy guy, a true gentleman. His voice was perfect, and this song is my absolute favorite, with "You're Gonna Get What's Coming" from his "Double Fun" album coming in at a close second.
BTW, whatever happened to the Max Weinberg 7? They're an extremely talented group, and I just wonder where they are right now.
wow wow and more wow amazing!
His is the MAN!
SOUL, NO DOUBT! THANKS
Such a cool 😎 song by one COOL Dude ❤
What a groove.
Brilliant
Lekker goeie band by Robert palmer
Still had it.
such a cool dude he was

YO.. This is Cool.. Cat!
I’d like to have a hearted comment by the Top cool at.
Still missed a class act.
Tryin’ to talk doubletalk, get myself in troubletalk, catchin’ myself in lies.
Is that Max on the skins?…😊
I equate MTV's success to that of one Robert Palmer. After his music video, Addicted to Love, maybe early 80s? That imo, really exploded the music videos to where it seemed everyone had to release a song with a video. Gotta give Lowell George much of the credit for this funky song (and trilogy).
Beautiful version of Sneakin Sally - bit funkier, just a little quiter, still drives through every line
