    I can answer to the PID.
    KPc is the constant that multiply the setting temp minus the actual temp. Proportional term, the higher you get the more reactive will be the machine to maintain and reach the temperature.
    Total resulting power to the boiler = Power 1 + 2 + 3
    Power1 = (SetupT - ActualT) x KPc
    KIc is the integral term meaning it sum the error over time. It is usefull for finely adjust temp over time.
    Power2 = integral over time (SetupT - ActualT) x KIc
    For ex if your temp error (SetupT° - ActualT°) is few deg, the actual power1 could not be enough, so every second that error is there it will be multiplied by KIc and added to power1. We call that eliminating the traling error.
    KDc is the derivative term. It check the variation of the error Power 3 = (SetupT - ActualT) x KDc
    This parameter enter in the game when there is strong variation detected, either by changing your setting T° or because the boiler refill and an error build up fast. Do not get to high on this parameter as with inertia the T° will be unstable or at least having overshoot on the T°

    Thank you for all your videos, Stefanus, and for the time you take in making them. I have recently bought an Elizabeth for my first espresso machine. I will pair it within a month with a Niche Zero that is back ordered. I ma still struggling with steam preinfusion or just a bloom phase and how many seconds, brewing and steam temperatures... What would be your settings and preferences in this regard? I saw that you set your boiler temp to 145º, but I've read that this his pressure can a be a bit too much. And last but not least, I looked into the Mara X before going for the Elizabeth... But to be honest, every tie I see one of your Mara X videos I think I might have made the wrong choice. Since I am still in the trial period where I can exchange the machine (distributor offered to do this) I. ma still full of doubts since the Marx looks are unbelievable compared to the bruised aluminum of the Elizabeth. For some one who makes one flat white and one espresso a day but is no handyman in terms of lubing the lever, etc. One's gotta love pulling that lever and that chrome body on the Mara X. Do you think I made the right choice for a total newbie or should I switch to the Mara X? Would I sacrifice much more maintenance and less precision in exchange for looks and the LCC? Thanks again.

      Hi just follow your heart. In the beginning i think you have made your choice based on the pros and cons (logically), however with you asking this question again i think it is more of a personal aesthetic, feelings and intuitive instead of logic. At the end of the day they are both great machines no regret

  • @lindajardee
    @lindajardee 3 роки тому +2

    I am new to a dual boiler, so am confused about preinfusion. I'm thinking this adds a spurt of steam/water to wet the puck before the espresso streams out, supposedly helping flavors? I heard it is subjective on if it really helps flavor. I was told this is more effective for light roasts. I only use medium and some medium-dark roasts.

    • @StefanusGoana
      @StefanusGoana  3 роки тому +1

      Hi to be honest there is no definite answer to your question. I think this is still evolving as why and how it should be implemented and what result to expect.
      % Arabica for example giant coffee chain from Japan is using relatively dark bean with their slayer machine that gives around 10 seconds pre infusion.
      Every bean react differently and require different treatment in extraction process.
      None the less having machine with such capability for sure gives you more room for experiment.

    • @UncleSkiBum
      @UncleSkiBum 2 роки тому +2

      The main reason for pre infusion is to avoid channelling. If the coffee isn't perfectly distributed or tamped then the sudden shock of 9 bar can cause cracks in the coffee puck and water takes the patch of least resistance ending in poorly extracted shots. The flavour is perhaps more noticeable in a lighter roast but I would say pre infusion helps with all roast types as it ensures a more even extraction.
      If you have ever used a naked portafilter and noticed the coffee not coming out evenly thus could be due to an uneven tamp or poor distribution or a sign of channelling. Pre infusion is just another thing that can help stop a poor extraction.

      Sure, it’s about reducing scale build up and the capacity of different water filters that might be fitted. My Elizabeth may not arrive for a month or so and I wondered about filter sizes. The standard one apparently is good for 25 litres of water but there’s a bigger one which is good for 150 litres, reportedly. The bigger one seems to be better value for money but is 40 mm in diameter and I wondered if it would fit. Again Stefanus, thanks to your help as it looks like it will fit. This larger filter that I’m interested in is made by ‘Bilt’ and is model, Nical 900 (available on ebay and bluestarcoffee. Here’s the manufacturer’s link to their ‘blue’ models though not the ‘900’ model: en.biltsrl.com/portfolio/nical-blu/

      Hahaha I’m in the same boat. I plan to order a Mara X and love the look of the machine over the Elizabeth. However deep down I feel the Elizabeth is the better machine for its control and functionality. If I get the Mara X I plan to put a group head thermometer on it immediately. I also just make on average one-two drinks per day and very rarely pull two shots back to back. So I am thinking a dual boiler may not be necessary for my requirements. I also don’t mind tinkering a little with a heat exchanger machine such as doing a cooling flush before pulling a shot. So I am leaning towards the Mara X.
