This was our first time biking along Lake Champlain and it was so beautiful! We’d love to hear from others who have biked around Lake Champlain and what sections you recommend riding.
Yeah... after riding across the south on the Southern Tier route where drivers yelled obscenities, one edged their car fender at me, and another driver missed me by 6" on purpose, here's a few safety tips: bright yellow or orange jersey, TWO daylight visible rear blinker lights, (eg. Bontrager Day Flash), and zip-tie attach a yellow pool noodle onto your rack so that it hangs into the travel lane three feet. Happy trails.
Another nice ride with beautiful views. 👍
I just finished the Champlain Valley Trail by camping from Albany to R. Point and back. Tough up hills ,and long downhills. Along with trucks and 50+ mph. At Comstack off road was a lot of gravel. Some good campgrounds and Lock 5 was great for camping
Cool, I always wanted to see the whole route, I've only done poughkeepsie to the bronx
wow, thank you.... would have been a long haul to ride my bike in the street, nothing wrong with that but I can do that closer or just start from my front door. anyone else trying to limit how much they ride with cars/trucks finding it difficult to connect rail trail and actual cycle ways/paths? any tips on web sites or apps that show whole trials so I can link them? google a trail and I only find one point in the middle so I often end missing miles and miles of miles of rail trial on my trips.
Did you take support vehicle to Rouses Point or Amtrak? If Amtrak was used, did you get bike roll-on spots or have to box bikes?
Same question for Albany to NYC. What were your logistics from NYC back to the vehicle?
I think they’re schtick is to get people to pay for that info?🤷🏼♂️
Calling something a "trail" when it's really just a vehicle roadway is total bullshit
sadly tons of that when it comes to cycle routs... why actually build it when the politicians can take the credit without doing anything (have to wonder how some of them "cost" millions upon millions of dollars for what ends up being paint and signs). be warned if you ask that type of questions the cycling community will lash out labeling you a right wing extremist or worse :( I learned to not ask or question this stuff on public bike forums...would seem we bike folks are not the most rational of people.
