You have inspired me to do better and aim higher... your courage is contagious, and the preparation for this run shows a great deal of intelligent planning. Awesome job! Thank you for showing this video.
Thanks man! Glad I could be of assistance. I know my run wasn't the fastest or most impressive but this recording was my first time going down this run. I wanted to capture it so I could watch it and remember what it was like the first time I went down
I thought you both did a pretty good job. That slope looks somewhere between 45 and 50 degrees in steepness, so it's no joke. Based on your camera motion, I think your head was looking directly down the slope, which suggests a quiet upper body. Your "dad" (?) had a little pivot action at the hips in the steeper part (higher up), but he looked a lot better lower down. The snow looked firm yet a little soft. The camera doesn't often give the viewer a true perspective of the steepness, unless the camera is held viewing the slope crosswise, from the side. If I were you, I'd be proud! Back east, there'd be ice and rocks...but most lift-serviced slopes back east aren't this steep, because eastern "powder" (i.e ICE) would be murder at this level of steepness. Still, a nice job!
Would love to do that! Unfortunately the only times I've been to Big sky have been in the early season and there hasn't been enough snow in it (at least for me).
Steep! I ski Big Sky and have done Dictator Chutes but have not done Big Couloir. Doubt I will, as I don't ski with anyone who could or would be willing. Great video. Awesome views!!
It was great! The resort only lets so many people go on the run at a time, since it's a pretty tight run. It's a great time and I'd recommend it to anyone who has the skill to get down. I'd recommend going with a guide if possible, they always know where the best snow is.
Is that a guide with you? If so, how much was he? I just went to Big Sky for the first time a couple weeks ago and didn't get a chance to do any triple black runs.
I just went to the ski school and requested Kurt Sundeen. Hes been a guide there for a long time and is a personal friend of mine. If it's on the mountain, he knows how to get to it. Typically guides will assess your skill level but in my case Kurt already knew I could ski it so the assessment portion didnt come into play.
A. GoPro doesn't show steepness well. B. Consequences. This is very steep terrain with potentially very bad consequences if you fall. C. Remoteness. If you do injure yourself in Big Couloir, it is going to be difficult for patrol to get to you and will take time to get you off the mountain.
It's a no fall zone It's definetly like 50 degrees, the only 50 degrree run I've skied is false face and that was also a triple black so it seems like the rating depends on pitch and rock outcrops or walls.
How does this compare to Marx or Lenin or gullies? I’m comfortable doing those runs and I’d like to give the Big a go! I just don’t want to get there and realize I’m out matched! Thanks
It's much narrower at the top, a little steeper, and about as long as marx/lenin. It's similar in pitch to the gullies and similar width to gully 3. You should be fine, especially if you go with a guide. Once you get past the dogleg you're home free.
Good stuff my guy! Better to have something than nothing, I'm in Michigan most of the year but even when I go skiing here I'm thankful for the runs I get to take
@@ltkillert92 yeah. At least I live in an area with 10 different mountains within 2 hours of me. Of course nothing is within an hour though. But u got to take what u got.
This video documented the first time I ever skied this run. I'd say I'm a pretty good skier, since I've been skiing most of my life. Others opinions probably differ but I'd like to say I'm good at it. This was also about 3 years ago so I'd also like to say I've improved since then.

Great job on some seriously steep terrain! You kept your hands in the frame nearly all the time and your upper body quiet. Well done.

Love Big Sky. Love that tram.
Was there first year it was opened. The memories!!!!

The snow looked f-ing awesome and nobody was there! sweet brother, I'm sure you had a blast.

Nice job guys! Looked like fun hope you have a great ski season this year. Stay safe peace.
Awesome. I really liked your footage and your overall effort. Good stuff.

Nice job ur skis looked a bit shaky maybe from leaning back or not jumping but you kept your body forwards all the way, great run
Where did you go to find your guide? Also with a guide do they assess your skill level and tell you if u can do it or not

I am simultaneously terrified and very interested in doing this. I've skied double-blacks, but this is a triple.
I wouldn’t trust my life to those collapsible poles !
Thanks for showing that camera angle! What separates this from a double black? It looks about as steep as some double blacks I've skied before

Looks like a triple black (as if there were such a thing) to me, no thanks!

Killer thanks for the feedback!!
In pa we have a trail that’s 46 but it’s really short so it’s pretty easy

There is no ski run in PA steeper than 30 degrees.
@@kkeelty64 well there is but it’s like a super steep section for a ridiculously short time
@@coastersncreations1888 I think you might be confusing percentage with degree.
Where do you think this +30 degree slope is in PA?
This run makes Corbets look like a blue
that's just trying to get to the "ski-able" parts
Why did you hire a guide for inbounds?
We hadn't skied the run before, and we thought it best to get someone who knew where the drops were to guide us down the slope.
I find it stupid that you need a guide for this.
I would feel saver with it, and it is more fun with an guide as well
you are not good at skiing are you?
