At least you sound honest. My ex took a teapot to Sotheby's (of all places) 3 years ago (because covid hit him hard and he needed money) for an appraisal. It was a Chinese vase which looked wonderful and they told him that it was about 15 years old top. They told him that after examining it for over an hour but they added that he could leave it there and that they would do more inspection on it using other techniques if he wished. He asked if they were certain that this piece was not older than 15 years, and they said that it was difficult to determine the exact age but that it was certainly not over 50 years old, and on this they were adamant. BUT ... they were willing to purchase it for 3000 dollars because it was really well made and by a very skilled artist, just not an antique and not a famous antique. My ex left the place with his vase after telling them that they were lucky he was not in the mood to sue their ass because the teapot belonged to his late grandmother and was offered to her when she was one of the rare foreigner living in China before the revolution by a very good friend of hers and who also had inherited it from his parents, so the piece was at least 70 years old. He then had it examined by a professional person who said it was at 80 years old and was made by one of the greatest Yixing teapot artists. The piece was then bought privately by a Chinese collector and .... Let's just say, too bad for me this is my ex, because he will never have to work a day in his life and now lives in Switzerland and just has fun day and night. And sotheby's wanted to get it for 3000 dollars when he sold way for millions.
you really know your stuff and have taught me so much. My husband inherited the family home in which his grandparents bought in the early 1950s.The house was built during the Civi War by a man named Edward Jones who started the first industry business in Middletown Ohio, the first meat packaging company,he raised free-roaming pigs.back then I guess pigs went anywhere to feed but he then recovered by feeding them just corn they gained more weight and started keeping them in pens. But this house is so full of generations of his family's belongings from dishes tofurniture, you name it it probably here unlong with Christmas items old and some never used and still in boxes and Avon bottles boxes and boxes of it.
I wouldn't sell anything on ebay especially if the item/s are very valuable, I had a nasty experience. There are scammers online looking for opportunities to scam people.
Thank you for the help.. this video is actually very user friendly and finally, it feels like I'm not being talked down to because I don't have this knowledge. Many of us love the look of these old porcelain pieces and cant afford to buy them at Christies and Bonhams but want to know how to spot real pieces. This is the first video I have seen in years that doesn't make me want to just give up searching for real antique Asian porcelain.... Bravo!! Thank you so much!! :)
Well spotted, he seems to be playing a game with that thing, for people like you to find! It is a paper ikea lampshade designed to look like a Star Wars helmet I believe.
New subscriber here. I have very little knowledge on Chinese porcelain so am hoping this channel teaches me. I know a lot on USA Pottery, Roseville, Hull, Rockwood, McCoy, Fulper, to name a few. What you said about the wear of an old piece is all so true with USA Pottery so maybe my aging mind will retain this info. Am looking forward to watching more of your videos. Thank You!
I managed to secure a deal on a large floor vase. It has a white base with seemingly blue colors and the picture is of a dragon and what looks to be a peacock on the other side (im picking it up in a few days) It looks like it has some serious wear, the owner has had it for 30+ years, knows nothing of it and just wants to get rid of it. It also has no signature on the bottom so it's a bit of a gamble for me. But this guide is very helpful. Gonna follow it step by step when i pick up the vase.
I have a porcelain set in pristine condition, I think it’s Japanese. I would really appreciate your help identifying the pieces. I’ve been told it’s worth a lot of money
Very informative. Please can you do video or give info on Amber floral vases behind you. I have one very like them and can't find info anywhere on net. Thank you
Hi josh. We have a few of these items which we are looking to be appraised. Some of the items we have are Chinese porcelain crockery. Satsuma jars along with arab antiques. I would love it if we could connect with you and discuss on this
I purchased a vintage Chinese hand painted plate , and has red marks on the bottom and something that looks like a small red dragon , I don’t understand why the mark and the little dragon were cover with white paint, I don’t understand why covering the marks .🤔
Hello. Your video was one of the videos that popped up regarding my search on vintage/antique Kutani china. I have a 23 piece set that has bamboo print with gold trim and I am having difficulty trying to find out the 2022 value of it. Any tips?
I have a plain white plum style vase. Approximately 14.5 long . Bottom is about 8 in around. Translated by goggle Chinese says inside government. Under base it's clay not painted. Letters look like they might have been dark blue. I got it from some guy when I was looking for the pots to put plants in. He said he got it from an estate and whoever sold it to him said it was worth $80. I just want to know what it is and what they used it for.
I have a Chinese shell shaped partially scalloped plate. The rim is orange with gold. It has multiple chrysanthemums and 2 birds. There are 2 red marks on the back. Could you please help me identify this shallow bowl/ plate. Thank you
Finding any real authentic antique Chinese porcelain is like winning a lottery. I would be happy to find any recent copies. Thrifting in USA for 35+ years, I only have 1 hand painted tall blossom vase to show for. The rest is all recent merchandise. So I will continue in search of my treasures. Keep on thrifting till the end of my life.😂😂😂

Hello. Just wanted to ask if someone's interested about porcelain plate. I'm a friend of the nefiew in our late president here in my country. He gaved it to me 2 years ago so I plan to sell it.
If it has a gold "Made In China" sticker on it, good chance it's fake...if it don't, maybe it's authentic..or maybe someone has just peeled said gold sticker off...🤣
