Definitely one of my favorite DT songs.
Devy actually recorded it on his old trusty hss Strat, years before the Fishman pups were a thing.
He is fond of a two amp, wet dry setup to broaden and tighten the perceived sound, and you're using too much verb and not enough echo...
That's why it sounded a little dry to me, Devy first has a super short delay to thicken things, and then goes into a longer one, and finally into his reverb.
Try it!
Going that way, the auditory soundscape is thickened considerably, giving the gloriously deep and wide tone he's famous for.
He also uses some slightly different tones for clean and other tones, but they're easy enough to find once you have the base palette.
Thanks for this, Devy's one of my all-time tonehounds!
Will the next one be Joe Hoare from Orange Goblin? 😉🤞
One of the best songs ever made. Thank you for this.
His main (only?) tuning is CGCGCD, thanks to his undying love for Jimmy Page.
I like going the whole hog and making that D a G (it's like having a six-string twelve string)!
Not the only tuning - he also used a version of it half step down to B and a seven string version with a low G added on the bottom. In his newer work he sometimes also use drop/open D tuning. Still very inspiring!
His tuning isn’t D, it’s CGCGCE all 5ths
He's also used standard a couple times, as well as Open A# for Heaven Send
Such a great song!
Bonsai!!! Killer track 🤘🏽 nice tone building sir
Very nicely done!
Amazing!
Supercool, there is a UA-cam-Video out, were Devin played a Session with this Song, awesome awesome, Goosebombs
My favorite song by Dev! 🤘🏻
Think the Song is in open C Tuning. Not drop C. Great video like always.
If he’s still playing the same notes, does it really matter. It’s about the sound not the tuning necessarily.
@@Burnt_Gerbil considering devin doesn't only use the top 3 strings on the intro it is actually important to note the tabs are wrong ALONG with the entire tuning. the next section he plays is also full of wrong notes due to the wrong tuning
@@Hyperlink1337 - Assuming the pitches / notes he played are correct, how is it wrong? The tuning is irrelevant.
Very cool choice overall. Ola Englund Solar guitar too!
A great song to cover could be Third Stone from the Sun, the Gary Clarke Jr. version! Obviously not the first part, but after the first minute, specially the part that starts at 2min 20sec! 😄
P.S: awesome episode, as allways!
Dual reverb is not out of the ordinary, many studios will have the super not a pedal (or portable) giant metal plate and massive spring tank somewhere in the building (usually the basement, or somewhere sonically isolated). Running a guitar track into both (but on separate mixer channels) sounds HUGE compared to just running one of them.
Actually, I already made a suggestion for a song. Cancel that! A super cool song to see on this series would be Maggot Brain, by Funkadelic! I get that you could not play the whole song which is almost a 10 minute solo, but the first four notes and the first lick is incredibly iconic and beautiful!
How about anthing from Rory Gallagher? Shadow Play or Big Guns?
Iv found like 3 different ways this songs played. Which one is the right one?
not this one for sure.
UMM ACTUALLY... Dev had said in his recent podcast, that the first time he had used modeling on an album was Addicted. Which was recorded good few years later. Looking at the Synchestra live performance from that era, he was using Mesa DR along with 5150. And a beefed up stratocaster.
It’s “delay-reverb-delay,” not “reverbed delay-reverb.” Still sounds bloody massive though 🤘

miserably inaccurate information. shame
openC. CGCGCE 5150\dual rect. 808, pingpong 320ms, cave verb 15sec, pingpong 500ms, go play
