It is absolutely gorgeous, I don't think we should ever underestimate all the time we spend getting all of the components into our heads, we spend hours thinking about how we want our quilts to look, then the process of going out and getting all of those pieces of the puzzle together before we ever start cutting and sewing. It really is a beautiful process from start to finish, and of course the finished piece is usually everything we thought it would be and more. Most satisfying is the actual quilting because it is like framing a painting, it really does finish your work off so perfectly and then its really nice to think that your work can live on after you have departed and be passed on and on and even restored if and when it is needed. Thank you Cathy, I love what you do....
Investing in others with your precious time and effort is such a beautiful way to say I love you! Both the quilt and your telling of the story are so beautiful! And the love in that quilt will remain throughout its existence!
Hi! This is Sheri. Two things-- First, my favorite part of this video is that you and your daughter worked together on parts of the project. Getting to sew with my daughter is so special to me, and she teaches me so much and is so encouraging. Second--Peach WAS a thing for 80s kids, at least at the end of the decade. I was in college in AL from 1986 to 1988, and our dorm room was painted half peach amd half blue, with a coordinating strip of CONTAC paper along the middle to bring it all together. It seems like peach, sage green, mauve/rose, and country blue were the top colors then. Side note, I fell in love with that shade of blue then and have loved it ever since. Best color ever!💙
Hey Sheri! Thanks so much for watching and commenting! Yes, I do love involving my daughter (actually both girls for different tasks!)---I'm so glad that you have that joy too! And YES, you are so right! I remembered much later, after the video aired, that my sister's prom dress was peach! (Mine was mint green! lol!)
Tagging is the icing on our “cakes”. Love the story and the pattern selected. I never thought about reversing the Irish Chain. My very first quilt was an Irish Chain for my son’s college dorm bunk. It had a lot of hidden mistakes but the love put into its creation can never be duplicated. Unique ideas are exactly what drew me to the quilting craft years ago and why I have recently returned to sewing them today. Thank heavens for UA-cam videos and you!🧵🪡💖
Thank you, Amanda!🥰❤️ You just never know what some child (or their mother) might really end up loving and hold onto! Isn't that one of the best things about quilts?
Gorgeous quilt! As an 80s teen, I agree with you on the colors, but I can acknowledge their loveliness. What a wonderful quilt story, and what a great way for your friend’s daughter to know the story of her baby quilt!
Kat, thanks so much for sharing your beautiful time and ideas in creating your loving baby quilt. Your friend and baby are so lucky to be your friends. The quilt looks beautiful!
Years ago, a lady I knew from a local store had brought her boyfriend over to help fix the wheelchair lift on my car so I could stay mobile. A few months later, I heard that her daughter, who lived several hundred miles away, was having a baby. Wanting to return a favor, of course, I made a quilt right away. I gave it to her at the store just two days before they got the call that the baby was on the way and they rushed to the airport. It was nearly two weeks before I saw her again...and learned that her daughter was thrilled with the baby quilt for her own new little girl...a little girl born on my birthday! LOL
Oh my goodness! What a great story! 🥰 You just never know the impact that a handmade quilt will have on someone (well handmade anything, really, but quilts are just very special.) It's that "made with love" thing. You can feel it. ❤️
I’m also a pharmacist (Canada) and recently picked up sewing as a way to unwind from my crazy hours at work. I haven’t tried quilting but like you, I prefer to thrift for my fabric. I find your style of videos relaxing and very informative. The quilt you made for your friend’s baby is just gorgeous. Thanks for sharing.
How wonderful! And my goodness, we definitely have to find a way to unwind...I don't know about you, but community pharmacy in America is incredibly demanding and draining. 😱 Thank you for the kind words, it means so much. 🥰 And thank you for watching and commenting!❤️
An adorable baby quilt. Putting the tag with at least your name, when completed and state give historical information for generations no matter where your quilt goes.
What a beautiful quilt - I totally agree about the amount of love that goes into a quilt, I made my son one for a wedding present, and he said "you could sell these" , but part of making it is knowing who will have it, and thinking how it will add to your home, and it being there to give them a quilty hug, even when you can't, so I couldn't sell all of that. Karis is a very lucky little girl, and I'm sure she will treasure it xx
YES, Sue! ❤️ I know plenty of people make quilts to sell…but the joy of making it is the love and personal touch that goes into it! Thanks for your kind words! 🥰
I think your baby quilt is beautiful! That is a lucky baby and mother! I, too, loved Melanie Hamm and miss her talents and sweet smile! Keep these videos coming!

yes baby quilts are the most fun because of the quilting patterns just come alive with the cute quilt tops. I love to do a patchwork backing as well or a panel for the backing quilt the panel so it shows up on the front. Making baby quilts for people you love feels really good. I have done so many by request.

@@lauriepearsey4607 I have not had to put stabilizer or interfacing in one (yet)…oh wait, I DID put the lightest interfacing on a row of lightweight and flannel shirts that was part of a piece back! 🤦🏻♀️ I had forgotten! If your pieces aren’t too big (the row I mentioned had 8” blocks with no other piecing) and they are anchored with other, more substantial fabrics, I don’t think it’s needed. What a sweet video story and a sweet lady. I was saddened by the first comment and reply that mentioned that she has passed away! Is this true? The video was posted in July 2022 and I just found her channel. 😢😢
It is absolutely gorgeous!! Thank you for sharing the story. Question: what do you use as batting? Your quilt looks think and flexible, I try to get the lowest loft but I think it still makes my quilts heavy and dense, which is not necessarily bad but I do love the thinner quilt look! By the way, thanks for your channel, it’s very soothing with a dash of humor and wit. 🥰
Oh thank you! 🥰 The batting for this one was Warm 80/20 (cotton/poly blend) which I think fluffs up better than plain cotton…although I actually usually prefer cotton. It is tricky to try and balance the various benefits of each batting. Thanks for you comment…and for watching! ❤️
Thank you! ❤️ I usually do mine own quilting with a walking foot, or I do basic free motion quilting. But I discovered that a childhood friend is starting a longarm quilting business and so he did it for me! I thought the quilting he did for this quilt was lovely!
Thank you, Wendy! ❤️ And yes, it seemed initially like an easy colorway but it blending pinks and peaches is harder than it looks! Thanks for commenting! 🥰
It’s not my first quilt…actually the quilt on my couch is one my grandmother made. The squares are not quite 2-inches, and it is a “trip around the world” quilt pattern. If you want to see my first quilt, look in my videos and I have a video where I show it and talk about it! ❤️ (I’m assuming you’re talking about the folded up quilt. The one of the back of the couch is a crochet blanket I made for my husband.)
I keep seeing tags with, "Made with blood, sweat, and tears... Don't worry, I washed it." If I haven't bled while making the quilt, then I probably did while embroidering the labels. And, yes, I washed them.
Certainly lots of people love those colors, not just millennials! It was more a humorous take on the predictability of millennials. 😊😉 And they are lovely. ❤️
@@beckypetersen2680 I like them all. I make the civil war quilts and black background with brights. I am currently working with orange/peach/green/yellow/blue...... I have never met a quilt I didn't like! Haha.

So pretty and wholesome. The quilt is beautiful. What did you do for quilting?
Thank you! ❤️ I usually do mine own quilting with a walking foot, or I do basic free motion quilting. But I discovered that a childhood friend is starting a longarm quilting business and so he did it for me! I thought the quilting he did for this quilt was lovely!
I can understand the how it took some thoughts with that colour palette 🙂. Not an easy one, but it turned out lovely.
Thank you, Wendy! ❤️ And yes, it seemed initially like an easy colorway but it blending pinks and peaches is harder than it looks! Thanks for commenting! 🥰
My sister and I are 80’s teens and her prom dress was sparkly peach. (So were her bridesmaids dresses a few years later) What’s old is new again. 😄
Well maybe it was just me that didn’t like peach, then!😳😂😉
But yes, what goes around comes around! ❤️ Thanks for watching and commenting!
@@TheCatBirdQuilts I didn’t like peach either. I was a purple girl all the way.
@@snickerbuckle that’s what I’m talking about! 😍😊👍🏻
And my mom's bathroom from the 60's is peach and mint green - original colors.
@@beckypetersen2680 any millennial reading this comment swoons! 😂😘
That's a beautiful baby quilt! I love the colors. Did you hand or machine quilt it?
Thank you! 🥰
Machine. I actually had it longarm quilted by a childhood friend who is getting into the business! 😊👍🏻
I use a flat bedsheets for backing. Nobody knows unless I tell them.
And there you go. ❤️ Thanks for watching and for your comment!
How big are the squares of the quilt on your couch? Is that your first quilt?
It’s not my first quilt…actually the quilt on my couch is one my grandmother made. The squares are not quite 2-inches, and it is a “trip around the world” quilt pattern. If you want to see my first quilt, look in my videos and I have a video where I show it and talk about it! ❤️
(I’m assuming you’re talking about the folded up quilt. The one of the back of the couch is a crochet blanket I made for my husband.)
❤❤❤
"I fought my younger daughter about it".... come on,you don't bring in an expert and then ignore their advice! 🤣
I know, right!?! She is the colorist in the family! Sometimes I just can't see what she sees though! 😂
I keep seeing tags with, "Made with blood, sweat, and tears... Don't worry, I washed it." If I haven't bled while making the quilt, then I probably did while embroidering the labels. And, yes, I washed them.
Ok, that made me LOL, Kelly! 😂😘
Why do you say those are millennial colours. I use them in my home and I am not a millennial. Beautiful quilt.
Certainly lots of people love those colors, not just millennials! It was more a humorous take on the predictability of millennials. 😊😉
And they are lovely. ❤️
@@TheCatBirdQuilts What are your colors that you like to use?
@@beckypetersen2680 I like them all. I make the civil war quilts and black background with brights. I am currently working with orange/peach/green/yellow/blue......
I have never met a quilt I didn't like! Haha.
It seems you are receiving inappropriate spam. Should be reported.
Looks like it! Will do! 👍🏻
Beautiful quilt I immediately looked up the quilt labels. What a shame its content is so blatantly vulgar
Thank you! And thanks for watching and commenting!❤️
