I had to stop the video and type this comment…. When I have an “oops” that is small and won’t be noticed by anyone but me, I always say, “It’s not going to the fair”!! It’s amazing to me how alike we are! Love your videos and I’m working on my own shirt quilt. It may be a while before I can share it, because I’m having trouble finding yellow shirts. I may have to end up using more of the same shirts I have, but we will see. Thank you for your teaching.
Dawn, that is hilarious and great! ❤️ And I bet you are your own worst critic (just like me!) 🤓 I’m excited for you about your shirt quilt; and yes getting yellow shirts at all, but especially “good” ones can be tough. Sending you prayers and good vibes and lucky universe juice that you’ll find just what you need on your next thrift store run! ❤️🤩
Thank you for another really useful video. I've always been a person eager to rush towards the end of a project, and as a result I've often been disappointed with the end product. Quilting has taught me that only when I prepare well, and take my time over each element of the process do I get the quality that I want to achieve. I now no longer look how far away the finish line is, but get satisfaction and enjoyment from whatever I've achieved that day (even if its seam reaping😂)
Linda, me too!! (To all of this comment!) ❤️ What I love about quilting is also what frustrates me sometimes about quilting: all the steps! But when I don’t get ahead of myself, I can settle in an enjoy just what’s in front of me…and then the next thing I know, I’m done! 😊🥰❤️
Great video! Disappointed that I have to wait another week before you do the quilting! 🤣See, I'm already in a hurry! I promise I'll try to slow down. Love the hungry, hungry hippos idea. 😁❤
Robin-me too! I really REALLY wanted to figure out a way to get this info across AND do the quilting in the same video, but (as you know) sometimes I have too much to say!! You COULD always grab two more colored shirts and another white one and make another quilt top while you’re waiting on next week’s quilting video! 😳😘🤩 I mean, you know you’re gonna want to make another one, right? 😉😂❤️🤓
@@TheCatBirdQuilts I love your answer. Even though you DO have a lot to say about things, it's never too much! 🥰 And yeah, pretty sure I'll be making another one... I'm thinking black and red would make an awesome buffalo plaid...😁❤️
I am binge watching all your videos. I’ve made at least 20 quilts. I feel like I’m going to need to start over. One piece of advice is that some walking feet (foots?) need to be oiled. They have metal on metal parts.
Always love your videos.... I get stuck finishing/moving forward and you inspire me to "get the job done"! Thank you, Cathy. BTW, I did order a pattern from your suggested quilter. Because my husband had more stripes, I ordered the pattern called, "The Tessa Quilt" with the background coming from a few of his darker shirts..... I'll send you a Pic when I'm done. Still working on the gingham quilt though... I always look forward to your next tutorial.
So excited to see your wonderful video. Grandkids are gone, house is too quiet and I am deconstructing flannel shirts for a flannel quilt. My son sent 4 home in a care package to me, and I bought 4 at the thrift store for $2 each. I will use my Walking Foot and lots of starch. I think of you when I am deconstructing shirts. It's kinda therapeutic! I am pressing and starching as I go along. Keep up the great videos. ❤️🙏🏻
So glad to hear you are pressing and starching! Flannel can be so much flimsier than we expect! 😳 Thank you for watching and hanging out with me...I feel so honored that you think of me when you break down shirts!! ❤️
Hi from South Africa 🇿🇦 lol yes so basically make sure the children, husband, dogs and or cats are feed before you start 😂😂😂 then lock the door with a don't disturb sign 😅...
Good morning! I have monky that I'm using on the back of my baby quilt. Can't wait to try this. I put together a small scrappy wall hanging yesterday ans used the blue stripped fabric from a men's shirt as the binding. It turned out great. Thanks for sll your ideas.
I always write down my settings when I'm sewing b/c if I forget to save them my machine forgets when I turn it off.... This video also reminded me I need a new pair of gloves. :)
So smart! I didn’t think anything of my Machingers until I realized they would be on camera and how stained and worn they looked! 😂 Glad to remind you to get a new pair! Lol! ❤️
"It's a good time." 😅 IS IT, THOUGH? Always happy with the results, but I haaaaate cleaning out all the parts. There are two kinds of people, I guess. Another unpopular opinion: I'm not able to play along this time as far as quilting my own, so I'm perfectly content just watching you talk about quilting. *sips coffee*

@@RobinHarris61 buffalo plaid would be gorgeous! And thank you for the sweet words!
Good point suggesting to ‘fix’ the corners 👏👏 It’s surprising how often they manage to tuck themselves under the quilt 😳😳🇬🇧
Thank you, Glynis! It IS surprising how easily they can get sewn to the back! 😳😱🤷🏻♀️!
Love your sound effects!!!!!👏🏻
Thank you, Stacy!❤️
I love "octothorpe" it makes so much sense with it's 8 legs!
Right?! I love words like that! ❤️
Thank you!!!
LOL @ Hungry hungry hippos 💜💜...I'm DONE hahahaha!!
Lol!! Right?!? My mind is an interesting place! 😂
Thank you, thank you for the pinning the corners tip. Never occurred to me to take the extra minute to put 4 pins in.
Anna, you’re so welcome! Glad it is a helpful tip for you!! 🤓👍🏻
It’s the Moana influence giving us the surfer comparison. Delightful video and the pinning of the corner hint ++++
It is!! Moana for the win! 😍

Good video Cathy...l did ask myself why that walking foot cost that much when l first handled it....then l used it!!!!!
Giselle, right?!? The right tool for the right job. 👍🏻

How exciting, DiAnn! So glad your mens shirt fabric worked well for you!❤️
Oh wow, that tip of pinning the corners is such a good idea - can prevent another appearance of the seam reaper 😂😂 Ask me how I know!!
Surely we have all done this at least once!! And I don’t know about you, but I always think, “well what in the world?!? How did that happen?”😂😂😂
@@TheCatBirdQuilts Exactly ! Its always a surprise 😂😂
Oh, yes. Sewing the backing to the back.... there's got to be a technical term for that. Something more descriptive than "screwup".
Sarah...yes!! Maybe we should come up with one! "Back to back sewing" could work! Although that sounds pleasant rather than the horror that it is!!😂
# - pound sign (& I smile with glee when I see that the baker has used it thusly on my box of cookies.)
Mmmm. Pound of cookies! 😍
Do you have to lower the bottom feed dog with the walking foot?
No, and definitely do NOT lower the bottom feed dog...the walking foot needs it to grab and advance the quilt through the machine. 😊👍🏻🤓
I always write down my settings when I'm sewing b/c if I forget to save them my machine forgets when I turn it off.... This video also reminded me I need a new pair of gloves. :)
As soon as I’m satisfied with my settings, I take a picture with my phone. That way I can always go back.

someone on youtube once said, "its a walking foot, not a running foot"
Oh I LOVE that!!! ❤️
