I've just tapered down, I'm basically taking one fifth of my original dose and today is my first day in 5 years with zero opioids. I failed taking down my doses a few times, so instead I increased time between doses (from 6 hours to 8, then 10, 12, 18, 24, now I'm here). This took me a month or so. The actual time isn't really important, its about pushing yourself everyday. Hope this helps someone, and wish me luck for the next few days :)

ryan can you talk about suboxone and any success stories getting off that since so many of us are now on this shit or methadone and trying to get off. these doctors at clinics just ask if you've had any cravings, take ur money and ask if your dose is high enough. considering getting kicked out on purpose just because going there gives me cravings and i feel like I'm not a person when there and i haven't touched hard drugs in years and have never even taken a full suboxone in my life. its just sad man. this video was awesome seeing the emotion at the end, i feel u.

I nearly tapered to zero several times.. Everyday feeling slightly wack and smacked is not so cool and when you close to zero and get off the mental and psychological aspect will be much more subtil then going to hell for a week and then beeing human again and have your life back. I'mon day three now and to feel better now from hour to hour and all those videos give me hope.
The one thing is good when tapering to a certain dose is to prevent EXTREME withdrawals. GOD BLESS guys

I was happy to see the title of this video on the notification! I have been in a methadone maintenance program for over a year now, and clean for a year now, and due to a series of events this week I lost the six take homes I got per week. I am now on a 21 day detox and my dose was lowered from 100mg to 40mg overnight.. and it's starting to suck! I have thought many times in recent months that I wished I had just gone cold turkey, but the fear of that was too much when I was first getting clean.. I am just grateful that I will be 100% free of all drugs, including methadone, in less than a month for the first time in a decade! c: Thank you so much for all of your videos! We need many, many more people like you in the recovery world!

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but today I found out Ryan passed away from a pulmonary embolism... I'm a dependent pain patient, not an abuser but I feel like I lost a friend. He helped a LOT of people. I'm pretty sure the medication he was taking for blood thinning was what killed him. I worked in the medical industry for years and saw how they hid and manipulated data to make their products look good. The newest range of blood thinners such as xarelto and eliquis are especially dangerous. Nothing we can do now but warn people...

I've just started watching Ryan's videos and damn, what a guy! I'm very happy to have this info, a lot of it I already know or have been through but it's really great hearing from him and other people. I haven't come across this, (it's probably in a video I haven't watched yet), but I'm wondering if anyone else has rapid, pounding heartbeat? It's one of the things that can really mess with you psychologicaly and physically. Please let me know so I can say it's not just me. It might be, who knows? Thank you again Ryan. You've got me off to a good start. I'm already feeling better. I'm keeping my mind busy in positive ways and also doing things around the house I've been putting off for years.

I am doing the taper at the moment and that is hard enough I coming down from over 200 mg oxy loratab perc and herion combo So its narley to say the least, Circumstances have pushed me to where I am broke, the doctors wont subscribe much and I ve been on them for serious back pain 20 years now. Fear is encompassing me and I am 100 percent alone . I am so glad that I am not on Methadone sounds like a harder detox and I was thinking about going to clinic and dosing each day but I am going to give this 100 percent of my effort! Thank you for these videos I remember you from 5 years back when I got a shady dr. who was arrested and thought I wouldnt find another, but I did and the cycle continued . i was in pain management for about 2yrs. I got tired of feeling like death when I had to wait on my refill (ins issues, pharmacy paperwork, dr didn't write script to last until next apt-etc.) When I called my Dr to ask for stomach meds that I wanted to get off the pills he refused to give me anything to help- not even diharea meds-- but told me to come in to my next apt & get my refill. I chose not to go to my apt. and quit cold turkey. Not all drs are this way- but this was my situation. So tapering wasn't an option given to me. If I had been given the option to taper ida prolly went back to Dr after feeling bad & chickened out getting right back on my usual dose. For me when I didn't go in to get my refill missing an apt was an automatic kick out of the office. So I knew when I did that I was in for the long haul- no going back. I fought like hell for my life. Hardest thing I ever did- but I made it. I am glad I just went for it & Got that shiz over with- out of the way. Before I knew it the 30 days were over with. Then 2mnths, 3mnths. In a few days I will be 7months free of the poison. I am like a diff person. I am not homebound anymore nor sleeping all the time. I am cooking meals & spending time with my children. I have a girls night planned for this Friday (dressing up in 90's clothes themed) I am getting my friends back. I am getting me back. No longer a daily prisoner to a pill. I am living life. Soo much better than I was. I guess to each their own way of getting off the stuff- whichever way- there is life on the other side :))

Bbruby Thank u for ur comment...when u say, "hardest thing I ever did."" those words rang so true!! I am 54 years old and on methadone for 6 years. I am currently tapering 1 mgs a week...sounds pathetic I know, but at least I feel I am moving in the right direction. Just enough to keep putting one foot in front of the other. The way I see it, in a year from now I will either be 55 years old and on 52 mgs LESS a day than I take now, OR in a year I will be 55 years old still taking the same dose and dreaming of one day tapering off. The world keeps turning, that much is for sure...it is indeed the hardest thing I have ever done, and I am grateful for the hope people like you bring!

Jon Dobitsky I was on 110 mgs for about 7 yrs & have came down to now 29 mgs...Once you start detoxing & get over in your head the whole "coming down" thing, its not bad...but you have to stick to it & not dip in your take homes. By the way- 1 mg/ a week, it's a slow process I know, but it works!

I was also on OC 80s and Fentanyl patches at the peak of my functional addiction. And I can also relate to what you said about using them all up even if you planned to save or taper. It just never worked. I ended up on methadone for nine years, increasing the severity and length of my addiction far beyond what I ever originally was with pills. tapering attempts never worked. Took me years to taper from 180 mg of methadone per day down to 80 and I'm beating my head against the wall, have decided to go Inpatient Detox. Going in in two weeks. To get this shit over with. I agree with Ryan. In my perspective is, why feel like shit for the sake of staying dependent when I can feel like shit for the sake of being clean?

I tapered from oxy an it took a little time. tapering still sucked. I eventually was taking slivers of a pill several times a day. I still was sweating an felt bad. On my last pill I didn't take it just kept it an just stopped taking them. It was an experience I had tried many times over 13 years. I am now 6 months clean an doing so much better. I think about them maybe few times a month but usually during a stress time. If I can do it anyone can. You have to want to stop in your mind as well. No matter what it sucks detoxing, but it gets better. Good luck !!

Very soon gonna stop and handle the wds (this was over a 3 week period each week dropping dose after a 4 month binder) most days when I went to 2 a day I didn’t even have anything I have gone 2-3 days without then I did one to sleep then I went another couple days without. And everytime the wds got way easier I just did my last dose from a bag that lasted me two days mind you these are .1 tiny bags I am confident have a great support system and I know this time is the final.!

If your reading this comment and can do the taper, with your Doctor set up a spreadsheet of Date, Total MG/day using, and percentage you think you can reduce. For instance if using 100 mg/day reducing 10% is -10 mg/day for 5 weeks then when at 50 mg/day reducing 5% is -2.5 mg/day for 10 weeks. It is going to be hard so go real slow with the last 25 mg is -1.5 mg/day for 15 weeks. Graph your progress over the 30 weeks or 6-7 months it takes to get clean using this method. Dr. tried Requip for fidgets.

Highest I've ever been is 260mgs per day and when I missed ONE DOSE my heart was pounding through my chest withing 2 hours of a missed dose. 2000mgs per day would either give me a heart attack or drive me to shoot myself... Kudos to anyone with balls big enough to endure that third level of HELL!

Going cold turkey when doing hard core pain medications is agonizing.... Mostly uncomfortable but painful. I unfortunatly came from a family with bad health issues including cancer cell tumor development, muscle spasms, and degeneration in my spine. Doctors refuse to give out pain meds unless your heart rate is elevated to a certain extent where it is clear you in agony. Going to the emergency room with withdrawals will only make it worse....they will not give you anything..... And you will just sweat and suffer hooked up to potassium to hydrate you while the opiates leave your system. Unfortunatly some people don't have an option of tapering like me and my father. However I have found that adderall or medical cocaine can aid in opiate withdrawals and cociane has little physical withdrawal.... Everyone is different being said do your research and be prepared..... Don't back yourself into a corner... Because if you do killing yourself will sound a whole lot better then suffering. Please don't do pain meds...look for alternatives....and tell you doctor if you thinking about suicide
