Boucher Bluegrass Goose Guitar Review (Boucher's Finest?)

I first discovered Boucher guitars when I saw a video of J.P. Cormier playing one - so, thanks J.P. for helping me find Boucher Guitars!
Since that first sighting, I've been searching all over to play a Boucher guitar. Now that I've had a chance to play this Boucher Bluegrass Goose for a few months now, I'm extremely excited to share with you my thoughts on this killer dreadnought.
Now, I've played three other Boucher guitars, and truthfully, I am most interested and keen on the Bluegrass Goose. This guitar seems like the culmination of the previous models, and I am all for an upgraded bluegrass-playing machine!
As I started flatpicking with the Boucher Bluegrass Goose, I just loved the snappy tone that the guitar has. On the top, there's master grade red spruce. The back and sides are Indian rosewood, and there's a beautiful Koa binding all around the guitar. The herringbone purfling is also a beautiful and classic aesthetic addition.
Another unique thing about the Boucher Bluegrass Goose is the process the wood goes through. That's right, this guitar has torrefied wood, a scientific process where the wood is aged rapidly so you can get "old-wood tone" right out of the box!
The neck of the Bluegrass Goose has a nice, shallow profile that is perfect for country and bluegrass. In addition, while the body has this shiny, glossy finish, the neck has a satin finish that makes position shifting a little easier.
Under the hood of this guitar, there's forward-shifted X-bracing which makes this thing absolutely boom.
If you're looking for an instrument that will compete at jams, have a beautiful depth of tone, awesome projection, and stunning volume, I highly recommend the Boucher Bluegrass Goose (BG-52).

Tony, great review!! I have a D28 and a hand made guitar. After hearing the Bluegrass Goose, I think that this is the guitar that has everything that I want in a guitar. J.P. knows his instruments and I'm listening to him.
I'm scared to try one, simply because I would have to take it home.

For the last two years I have been focused on the acquisition of one guitar and in the last two weeks two guitars have popped onto my radar. This Boucher guitar being one of them. I am so grateful we live in and age of guitar building where we all have access to and know about the amazing work of the smaller production guitar luthiers. When I was a kid the only guitars I saw Martin, Gibson, Ovation and MIJ. Nice offerings for sure. Now there is a whole acoustc guitar world of sonic spice. Thanks Tony for putting Boucher Guitars on my radar.
Just to make your choice harder, if you could try a Simon and Patrick maple flamme body with cider top, you would be in deep indicission.

In 2009 I had the chance to try a boucher bubinga jumbo in a music shop in frankfurt germany. I was deeply impressed by the mighty sound of this guitar. unfortunately my budget wasn´t enough for a purchase, but I can still remember my stunning reaction when playing this guitar. Great expirience.

Seems like it has a tremendous sound, backing a nice tonal range, ultimately a really decent guitar. Looked really nice too
1 3/4 or 1 11/16 nut width. You keep switching between which feel the most comfortable and most awesome. The guitar does sound wonderful and looks striking. But, I seriously doubt very many owners will be taking this one to play at campfire jams.
Every time I listen to a Boucher, it always blows me away and makes me want to buy one instantly.
I'd like to ask you a couple of question, if you don't mind:
1) according to you, is this model suitable for fingerstyle?
2) if not, is there a boucher model that is suitable for fingerstyle?

I have one and I think it is awesome for fingerpicking. Sounds just pop off. I also have a 714ce Taylor and OOO size guitar and I still love using the bluegrass goose for finger picking. It’s beautiful

I bough a Boucher SG41 Mahogany three weeks ago and it is one amazing guitar. The music is so pure that you can almost see it. Every note is clean and you hear every string with each chord. This guitar deserves attention! The best instrument that I've ever played! Check them out, there is nothing like them out there!!!!
Amazing guitar! As you are familiar with Eastman, I wondered if you might wanna test their high end models like the E40D oder the E20D-tc? I have the E20d-tc and it blows away anything I‘ve played before. It’s all solid of course, has a torrified adirondack spruce top, Indian rosewood back and side, ebony fretboard, mahogany neck and a very traditional Look with herringbone binding. I hear some similarities with this model here. Would be interresting to hear your opinion about the top Eastman models.

JP Cormier seems like a really good guy and you know if he rates something, with his forty plus years as a pro, then it’s gotta be good.
His channel is well worth subscribing too. Actually there’s a few freaky coincidences with regards to the Tony Rice video, in as much as Cormier is good friends with Gordon Lightfoot and was chosen by Lighfoot to do a three night concert of his songs. Secondly He owns a 2000 Martin Tony Rice replica, with enlarged soundhole and after asking several well known Luthiers about the original Clarence White guitar, he’s of the opinion that it would of sounded even better without the enlarged soundhole as you’re effectively removing wood from the top. Gotta say he has a point, since all the replicas don’t sound as good and he actually has a video where he compares his Ten Grand Tony Rice replica with a $700 Alverez and as it was a blind test, you would be surprised a the results. he actually prefers the Alverez.
finally he owns seven Boucher guitars and rates them above all the really expensive guitars he’s played throughout his career.

Because I live in Quebec, it’s not uncommon to see a Boucher in a store or meet a Boucher owner.
Someday I also hope to own one. But to make that possible, I’ll need to sell my Martin D35… and emotionally I’m not ready for that.

A beauty guitar that I would love to own, however even here in Canada that domestic guitar is more $$$ then the imported D28
Boucher Guitars are handmade. Maybe it’s something to remember. They also feature Adirondack spruce top which that alone is worth quite a lot! Boucher is a boutique builder. In my opinion you should compare them to other boutique builders if you really want to put things in perspective
