  • The history of Zimbabwean music is incomplete without mentioning arguably one of the most pivotal and impactful eras ever. Some like to refer to this time as the urban grooves era and some simply call it “pakauya vapfanha vemaCD”.
As big as this movement was there is a huge fog around what it represents, this is seen in the many debates that surround the legacy of this era and it doesn’t help that no one was writing anything as this part of our history was unfolding. At the centre of this time however is Chamhembe, it’s the peak of what this era embodies. In this 5-part series SoProfound interviews some of the key people who made Chamhembe.
It's a front-row seat to one of the most impactful moments in Zimbabwean music history. Exciting never heard before stories, the history, influences and insight into some of the moments that shaped Zimbabwean urban music as we now know it.
In this episode SoProfound interviews Mafriq(Discord, Pauline & Tunga T)
The series is produced by Intentionally Daring in collaboration with Tnash Creative Studio.

This was very interesting getting to hear their journey and their different views. It would be really dope if you could add bits of the songs they were referencing during the interview as well, or even some pictures or flashes of some of the places they were talking about to add that uummph. It's so good going back memory lane. Thanks for this 🙌🙌 great work

Listening to these guys, one cannot help, but feel sorry for how our musical industry mirrors the problems we have in Zim. These are very talented musicians who had they been in the US or even here in SA would’ve made a huge fortune. As a parting short, M’friq I hope over the years you have learnt that you’re more powerful as a trio than as solo artist.

This is one of my best groups ever. I remember lip singing the songs with my friend. But one thing I just want to correct is that being a celebrity calls a lot...you need to be someone emulated by a lot of people in terms of your personality, personal conduct and your general behavior. The celebrity status is guarded jealously. So the reason why we don't celebrate most of the artists is because they are up to drugs and their life is not worthy emulating. This has nothing to do with a flashy lifestyle or money.
