    Hey Music Junkies!
Some of the greatest tales throughout history are true comeback stories, and they don't just exist in sports. Music has several of its own fame-hungry years-fame stories, including those of Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley, and Neil Sedaka. The stories of Sinatra and Elvis intertwine movie stardom with their music careers, but Neil Sedaka, a musician through and through, may have the greatest comeback story among all music legends. Check out this week's Pop Fix with The Professor as he talks about the challenges of an artist staying relevant across decades; why Sedaka's comeback story is so special, with songs like "Laughter in the Rain," "Bad Blood," and "Solitaire;" and how Elton John played a role is this epic comeback. And don't forget to leave a comment below about your favorite comeback story.

I nominate Mr.Roy Orbison as the greatest comeback of all time.
After all the tragedy in his life, being written off and forgotten through the 1970s and early 1980s he never stopped performing and recording.
His career resurgence in the mid and late 1980s is the stuff of legends.
From the rediscovery of " In Dreams" being featured heavily in the movie " Blue Velvet",to his duet with K.D.Lang on "Crying",the formation of The Travelling Wilburys with fellow musical legends, his stellar album "In Dreams" featuring rerecordings of all his classic hits which proved his voice never faltered, and the amazing "A Black and White Night" concert where he was honored and performed with the greatest musicians of our time.
In addition his two posthumously released albums "Mystery Girl" and "King of Hearts" were arguably the best of his career.
One could even make the point after listening to its lush production and well crafted songs that " King of Hearts" ranks as one of the last and greatest underrated albums of the final decade of the 20th century.
Go ahead,I challenge anyone who is steeped in popular music to listen to his " King of Hearts" album in its entirety and not fall in love with this masterful piece of pop.🥰And even more amazing...he was only 52 when he passed away!

without a doubt one of the greatest comebacks in music history is Tina Turner's. but everyone knows her story by now. I remember Neil's songs from when I was a kid in the 70s but didn't know he was first popular in the 50s.

    What about:
    AEROSMITH second golden age.
JOHNNY CASH reinvention 40 years after his debut.
BEE GEES explosion as disco giants.
CHER, with not one but TWO comebacks: late 80s and late 90s.
With multiple platinum albums sold, these 4 artists were WAY more relevent at the time of their comebacks than Neil Sedaka.

I think Johnny Cash's production with Rick Rubin, IMO some of his best work, introduced him to a whole new generation after a number of lean years.

Donny Osmand, the mystery song "Soldier of love". The song hit the airwaves and nobody knew who sang it. It was widely requested throughout the U.S. and when it was finally revealed that Donny sang it, people were amazed. A former child star, a former teen heartthrob. Basically left for dead in the music world and this song brought him back from the brink of extinction. Followed by the "Sacred emotion", a true comeback for the ages.

As an illustration of how successful Neil’s comeback was in the 70’s...Billy Joel has told the story of how he had to rewrite the music to “Movin’ Out” because in his original version, he unconsciously set the lyrics to the tune of “Laughter In The Rain.” (His drummer, Liberty Devito, threw his sticks at Billy during a rehearsal: “You asshole, that’s Neil Sedaka!”)

Brian Douglas Wilson, in all of music, there is no person I’m more in awe of. Given everything that happened to him, all the many ways he tried unsuccessfully to fill the emptiness, all the terrible things others did to him, it’s amazing that he is still alive and well, especially since, heartbreakingly, his brothers no longer are. His demons will always be with him, speaking dark things in his ear, but still he carries on, bringing his overwhelmingly adored music to the masses and we all wipe tears from our eyes and thank him profusely for bringing so much light into our lives.

The story of Elvis going into the studio in Memphis and they kicked all of his crew and hangers out is GREAT! He had not had a number one hit in 6 years and him and the Memphis studio guys produced 3 number 1 hits, Suspicious Minds, In the Ghetto & Kentucky Rain! They did not want all the BS, just make good music and that's what they did!

For me one of the top comeback stories ever is the Suede story. Everyone thought they split, that they finished... but not only did they come back, but their three post-comeback albums are as good as their first albums. This band just doesn't get old!
They're like fine wine, they just get better.

It was the Permanent Vacation album, the intervention on Steven and the other members all getting sober that was the key to the comeback.
Pump was better than Permanent Vacation but it might not have ever happened unless they changed their lifestyles & found sobriety.

I don't know if these are comebacks or just a long hiatus: but Aretha Franklin's "Freeway of love". She tore it up in the 60's, not much if nothing at all during the disco era and then Freeway of love, Who's zoomin' who, "I knew you were waiting" with George Michael, theme to "A different world". John Fogerty: CCR was huge in the early- mid 70's. Mid 80's he came back with "Centerfield" and "The old man lives down the road".

IDWTMAT isn't a favourite for many longtime fans of Aerosmith.
The Pump album is really only topped by Toys In The Attic & maybe Rocks.
The period from late 70's through mid 80's is regarded as mostly a dark one by many fans & more importantly Aerosmith themselves.
Their catalogue over the past 30 + years has had many great songs.
Very few bands can ever say they've had longevity like Aerosmith.

Green Day, Miles Davis, and John Coltrane all have great comeback stories. But I'm in the middle of my own musical comeback. The Hallquist Brothers are writing a new album called "Recorded with Iphone 7's." Title is self-explanatory lol. And it's my first time writing songs since middle school. Shameless plug, but that's my comeback story!

I thought The Bee Gees came up strong, from the late 60's to the early 70's with soft rock, then disco hit strong later into the late 70's they dominated the charts by 1978, one hit after another which took the world by storm.😀

Bill Medley: In the 80's, he in particular as opposed to Bobby. Top Gun revitalized his career. "I've had the time of my life", "Most of all" was featured in the movie "Major league". Great song. "Theme to the T.V. show "Just the ten of us".

I don't understand the constant references in the comments to 'Cher' having a comeback with Believe. She had been more or less consistently successful since the 60's, and while her career had peaks and troughs, she never really had a period which she couldn't get arrested. I'd say her leanest years (musically) were the early 80's, because she concentrated on her movie career until the end of the decade - and she was very successful in that. Shoop Shoop Song was # 1 in the UK in 1990. Love Can Build a Bridge was # 1 in 1995 (three singers, but still...), Believe was # 1 in 1998. Not really a 'comeback' when you haven't ever been away.
I agree with people like Aerosmith and Tina Turner though.
