Of course the live version is better!! Everyone's already sent you genuinely great recommendations so I'm going to add to the growing pile -- there are amazing live performances of two of my fave B sides 원해 (the best one is from 2018 imo) and The Night (2022) too!
I was at this concert. It was so amazing. I am so glad they are getting more notice and recognition. they are such a phenomenal group. i love ft island so much! thank you for such a great reaction
I was their too for both nights, it was amazing
3:50 bassist ^^ Lee Jaejin. They're only 3 members currently where as none of them play the guitar (Their 2 and only guitarists left in 2019 and 2020 respectively) Now they get help from a close friend called Euisoo when it comes to producing, composing, touring and everything.
Loved the reaction!! Would love to know which your favorite songs off the album are!! Personally I love TIV & Reason. (And 100% yes to ftisland live performances... their lives are way better)
Thanks for your reaction!.... With 17 years of career, FTISLAND's discography is so extensive and versatile that there is so much to choose from, if you look at their discography in Japan you will see that it is more oriented towards Rock, which is the musical style they like to do the most, in Korean they used to focus in pop rock, but in recent years his musical style has changed to Rock too. You can surely tell the difference if you listen to their debut song "Love Sick", but one thing is for sure, Lee Hongki's voice was always unique, powerful and emotional and FTISLAND IS ALWAYS BETTER LIVE.
Yeah more FT Island. Count me in!!!! Hong Ki is known as Mr. Emotion. I always tell new reactors to check out certain videos and its not even about his singing (cause that's always bang on) but its to show the people reacting to it. Korea is obsessed with Karaoke and they say all the men do FT Island songs and Kim Kyung Ho (for another time hahaha)so for me its the joy on the other faces listening to him sing. Yes their lives are great. I love Crying in the Rain, Future (the one with Hwe Seung from N Flying), Take me now but I could go on. Happy you found them!!
I was at both concerts for the live of Pulse it was insane and amazing. The whole concert was live streamed night two and you can watch the whole concert here on UA-cam. It was electric.First album they had no freedom and kinda rebelled against the album for years but love sick was insanely popular. Once they fought for their identity to do rock with Pray, watch Pray from their they get even more electric and went back to the music they love and want to showcase
From what they've shared on talks and interviews, they practiced with rock songs in their trainee days. So they were disappointed when the company debut them with ballads. But since those ballads did so well in Korea, it became the genre the company pushed for them.
Contrast to Japan, where they have more freedom and lean more to the heavier harder sounds in their releases. It's also where most of their self compositions go and where they're more experimental in their performances. If you check out their live performances circa 2013, I think they tried EDM too.
There was a lot of resentment over the years as they fought against their agency to do the music they want in Korea. Their 2015 album "I Will" was delayed by a year even though the band was already done recording and mastering it in Japan. Things seem to be on a good trajectory now though with this recent album release, so I'm hopeful for more good things in the future.
Good to see that you liked their live performance as well. They said before that when producing an album, they make and choose songs with live performances in mind. So it's no surprise if you like the live ver. of their songs more than the studio ver.
Ftisland was the first band of FNC. They sang rock ballads mostly. They were sent to Japan, and in there, they started their rock sound. The song Aqua on this album was released in Japan years ago. Lee Hong Ki loves rock. His vocals are amazing. He was a child actor, and he sang for the first time when he was 14. Everyone was impressed. There is a video of it on UA-cam.
Burn It and Serious are amazing songs of FTISLAND. I can't get it off my head. Very engaging.
6:54 FTISLAND early days facts:
Hongki wasn't originally going to be their main singer... It was initially planned that Jaejin(Bassist) would handle all of the singing but they went to a karaoke room together and as soon as they heard hongki's voice, they decided just there and then that he deserves the spot more🤣
Sadly they didn't have muvh creative freedom back then to make rockier songs because their company dictated their style & sound. (Namely pop rock and ballads which are considered more "friendly" songs for the Korean public.. They all did very well so they had to keep releasing similar songs.) Because of this, the members could never include songs they made themselves up until years later when Hongki fought with the CEO and FTISLAND finally got to release their very first fully self-composed album "I WILL" (2015) with the title-track: *'PRAY.'* Would be really interesting to see a reaction to that one as well! It's about the sewol ferry tradgedy & has a strong rock-style marking their first step outside their company's grasp
Thank you for the reaction! I've been getting into FT Island's music recently and damn I started at a perfect time because this album is so freaking good, 'Serious', 'Burn it' and 'Inferno' might be my favourites from it. Some of their older songs I'd recommend if you want to check out more are 'Lose' or 'Take Me Now'.
Also, I'm gonna add a couple of recommendations that you might know already but just in case, because I think you would also enjoy these two South Korean groups, well a band a group to be precise: Rolling Quartz and Dreamcatcher. Rolling Quartz is an all-female rock band, if interested check out 'Fearless' or 'Azalea' ('Azalea' is a cover of a Korean song, but really worth listening to, they made it their own). Dreamcatcher is a kpop group known for adding rock elements in many of their songs and mixing them with different genres, I'd recommend 'Deja Vu' and 'Scream' to begin with (the second one is a mix of pop, rock and EDM, so I think you might enjoy it)
This song is on fire!!! Thanks for doing reaction!!! FTISLAND so ubderrated
I found FTIsland and their younger brother bands around 2 months ago. I love all 3 of the bands.
FTIslands HONGGI had a unique voice that reminds me a little of Meatloaf. It certainly captures your attention and Jaejin is a stand out as well.
CNBlue is another amazing group. I can't get enough of Yonghwa's Your City. My favourite is probably Coffee Shop.
Then N FLYING, omlord, no misses with any of these groups. This group has 2 main singers who are very different but complement each other so well. Hot Potato is a favourite but I love so many of their songs.
I was watching the Collabs in their 2023 Band Kingdom performances and discovered their baby brothers, HIFI UN!CORN. Not as hooked on them but they are definitely up and coming.
I think you’ll be surprised at the variety in their discography, but what matters is that this sound is the stuff that the band itself gets excited about. Can’t wait to watch your journey
After this album, i recommend you their special album for their 10th anniversary, Over 10 Years. It's a great album.
Since debut they were very limited by their company in terms of music, so their early stuff is mostly light rock ballads (since it was really popular for bands in korea to do only rock ballads). To add they were also really young (ages between 14-18) when they debuted so they coudnt have much control on what type of music to put out. All the members have always wanted to make rock music since the beginning so they werent that happy at the time. It was only after some years that they finally made it, fighting their company, puting out their first all self produced album ( I will, with the Title track Pray).
I do recommend you check their old music videos because the songs are also great and its really fun to see the diference!
NICE REACTION!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH!! FT ISLAND IS A REALLY GREAT BAND.
a series? Yessss please 🙏🏻❤️🔥
FTI is a great band and Lee Hongki's vocals are top notch. It's great to see a reaction to them. They are so underrated internationally. I also highly recommend listening to the Japanese rock band ONE OK ROCK. Their song "We are" would be a good start. For a very versatile vocal group with excellent singers I suggest Forestella. They are Korean and known as the kings of harmony. Try their orignal song "White Night". 🙂 They are not Kpop, they are crossover and sing all kinds of genres.
Ft island is way better live. We all agree. React to broken live, it was out of this world.
I love to always see you on every reaction ahah I'm not along monitoring youtube here ahahah
There’s so much to dive into for a group that has been running for 17 years. They have literally dedicated more than half of their lives being part of FTISLAND. Because of that I don’t know where I should start with the recommendations. 😂
If you wanna go by reverse chronological order, then the next album you should check out would be Sage. An album released just last year. You can check out their title track Sage MV. ua-cam.com/video/BMGX9lLdPk0/v-deo.htmlsi=89MwrelPt3ULEtKN
And the live stage version ua-cam.com/video/vBvJeDvKR4Q/v-deo.html
The album itself is more toned down compared to Serious. However, Broken the 4th track of the album is my favourite one and I highly recommend you to react to it as well. You can have a listen to the original studio version first and then react to their live stage. I promise you the live stage is gonna be one hell of an experience. 😆 ua-cam.com/video/Y8F-ltZE7uE/v-deo.html
FTISLAND series?… Count me in 😆🥰 Btw… I have a Spotify playlist of FTISLANDs live songs only, which is more than 6,5 hrs. long… And I listen to all of them on a regular basis… So I can understand, why you think they sound even better live 😆
I think its Jaejin (the bassist) is the one who wrote Burn It
My favorite song of theirs is "Pray" from 2015 which was their first "hard rock" song. (I believe.)
