Refreshing to see a video about inktober that isn't about the whole plagerism thing. I will also add that is really fun to use different colored inks, sometimes just using a color and black can make the drawing stand out. Thanks a lot for the tips!
Hi, yes - I should have mentioned that, about getting 'quick wins' with some prompts to give you more time with your favourites!! Good point, thank you!
Hi, I saw world watercolor month and was a bit annoyed I missed the first few days (I'm a completist 😄) so didn't participate! Hopefully next year I'll get my act together because that one looked a lot of fun! 🙂👍
Hi, thank you for the feedback! Staying ahead or level is probably the toughest one to do but it makes such a difference to your confidence if you can manage it! 🙂👍
Brilliant, as always! I finished Inktober for the first time last year and had to at least come up with a written list of my ideas for the prompts ahead of time so that I could move ahead and not feel stuck part way through. I also stuck with a theme I thought I could manage--botanical. It was sometimes a challenge coming up with a botanical image to meet the prompt, but that was also part of the fun thinking about the words in a very different way sometimes. :)
Thank you, I really appreciate the feedback. A theme is a good idea and botanical is braver than me - I tried a picture-within-a-picture last year! It was fun but I think I resorted to using a mobile in the picture a couple times too many 😄
@@gee355Art Actually, I think the mobile fit for the small image size you were maintaining--kind of a theme within a theme, if you will. Speaking of which, I loved the image you created for the ghost prompt--so dang creative. :)
@@seahorse5689 thank you! I liked the ghost one too 😄 I think Insidious has a lot to answer for!! My 'hitrate' is usually a handful of good ideas out of 31 sketches 🤣 but I'm okay with that!
@@gee355Art I think a handful of good ideas out of 31 is a great rate of success by any measure! Looking forward to seeing what you come up with this year. I tried out your thumbnail sketch idea yesterday and it was quite helpful--so thanks again. :)
@@seahorse5689 no problem - I'm glad it was useful!! I'm not sure I'll have time for the full 31 days this time round but I will DEFINITELY be getting the inks out and recording what I do! Will you be sharing your work on social media?? 🙂
Yeah, I still don't even know if I'll have the time this year - started a new job in September and it's not leaving me with a lot of drawing time 😔🙄🙂 We'll have to wait and see... Good luck with your challenge tho 👍
Hi, that's the way! It's so much fun to use a bunch of stuff you wouldn't do normally. I'm looking forward to the brush pen, I really do love the different marks you get plus the feel of it 🙂👍 good luck with it!
What a fantastic video, Gee! Very well said and to the point. I didn't know there was any controversy so I looked it up. Why? Like watching a train wreck I guess! Personally I'm not going to do inktober because I am feeling completely tapped out creatively and otherwise. I know for some this kind of pressure and structure helps, for me I feel like I'm being forced to do something. I love your ink drawings and I look forward to seeing more of your ink work. I love how you experimented with ink and water, and varied up the inking tools. Thank you for sharing.
I hear you 100% on the pressure thing! It really is tricky to balance your life, job and family and do these challenges as well as you want to. My problem is I try hard to do a quality image that is outside the box a little, and that inevitably is time-consuming. I'm a full-time teaching assistant right now so I'm not sure I'll be able to do the whole 31 days. I will definitely be doing some inkwork during October though 🙂👍👍👍 thanks for watching 😄
That's a good idea 😄 I should have got one of those instead of measuring out each page!! But I think that allowed me to procrastinate about it all before starting work... 😉 Thanks for watching!
You are so talented your drawings just blow me away! This looks like such a cool challenge great idea about working small 😊 now I just need to learn how to sketch 🤣 thank you so much for sharing your so lovely!!🥰
I’m doing an A5 full colour piece everyday, I’m doing my own prompt list for a SFW Kinktober using Geralt and Jaskier from The Witcher. I have a nice routine going. I post on my Twitter @CuriosityRocks if you want to see my work.
Hi, yes I do draw it first in pencil, get happy with it and then go over with inks. Although I did a couple last year straight onto the paper with inks!! Markers? I think they are described as alcohol-based ink markers 😉 that's good enough for me!! Thanks for watching.
Tbh, I'm only aware of it, I haven't watched the videos about it. I do think before I even watch anything that the knives were out for Jake Parker as soon as the trademark thing broke last year. The tide has turned and folk are out to get him, regardless of whether he's copied the book or not 🤷🏻♂️ that is unfortunately how the internet 'works' for some people: a lot of folks with burning torches and pitchforks going after whoever is the monster this week 😔 I guess I'm just trying to celebrate the good things and reserving judgement until I know more? Thanks for watching 👍
@@JCee911 thanks 🙂 I guess I try to be careful with what I say, because of what I just mentioned! 😄 There are folks in the public eye I don't support anymore ( Mel Gibson, Kevin Spacey etc.) because of their actions but those are personal choices, I try not to force others to feel the same way as me. So I will try and watch these videos by Mr Dunn and make up my own mind, when I get the time ...! 👍

Thanks for watching! And I hope the tips are useful to you. I never want to let controversy get in the way of a good art challenge 😄👍
I had the first 3 days done on Oct. 1st. That little buffer really is nice when you get to ones that you want to spend more time on.

Wow these tips are absolutely fantastic. It's my first time doing inktober and am really pumped up for it following these tips.thanks Gee 🙌
👍 that's cool to hear!!! I'm glad the vid has been helpful and I wish you all the luck with it, it's a great art challenge to do imho 😄👍
Good luck and I'm sure you will do great. I'm taking part again this year but using a different prompt list.

Wish I had gone small. But this year I wanted to go bigger and do full 9x11 illustrations. :)
That sounds ambitious!! How's it working out for you so far? 👍
Preparing for the next month for my first Inktober and taking notes at the moment. Cheers and wish me luck !:)
Gee! Thank you! Great advice for anyone, but especially for an InkTober novice like me. I did WorldWatercolorMonth this year and I loved it. 🥰🧡
