- Historical battle of Pydna for Rome 2 on Legendary Difficulty. Played on the final patch for Rome 2 with no modifications.
These battles are not fought to be historically correct, but rather to win at any cost. Most of the Rome 2 battles have become insanely difficult on Legendary difficulty as of the final patches.

What I know about this battle is that a part of macedonian cavalry didnt get in the fight at all. The macedonian king was wounded in the very beginning of the battle and left the battle (with that cavalry). That was one of the defeat`s reasons. So, there is no bug. That cavalry on the hill will always be inactive. Goddamn historical accuracy in Rome2TW =D
Александр Леонкин cavalry wasn’t even really used on either side. Basically the Macedonians had the upper hand until they pushed the Romans into uneven terrain, and then they were able to break into the phalanx, and at that point it was pretty much over.

@Nic777 Mostly because their manpower was completely depleted. Even before the Macedonian Wars, the Kingdom of Macedon and all of the Greek city-state leagues were hurting for manpower due to pretty much nonstop wars for two centuries.
I actually didn't know the more you attack with elephants the more damage they did, cool.
Just googled the history of this battle. Turns out that in real life the bulk of the macedonian cavalry did not engage the romans and were hunted down. Supposedly the cavalry thought that the king was shit and didn't want to participate in his stupid deployment. Not saying the stuck cavalry in the game was on purpose, but in the end it wasn't that unrealistic

it's been "fixed" and now Macedon send a ridiculous amount of cav from both sides

If I were a real commander and had no idea about the cavalry, Id be fuucked really hard. Now, after a couple of attempts, I nearly defeated them, when I put triarii to soak up the charges in square on the hill with me sort of enveloping the phalanx, but the elephants went enraged so I lost... fucking own velites...
The same happened to me when I played this battle. I had won, it seemed, but nothing was happening and I got a defeat.
Spend 2-3 hours to beat it on legendary after patches. Strategy is basically the same as here, but you spend all misslies on 12 units of their cav. Then you sacrifice some of your cav to take out their archers. The rest is tricky: pulling out soldiers from fighting pikemen, spreading their attack lines, so your elephants could attack them in the back. In the end i've lost almost all army (8 units survived), having everyone at red health, but managed to beat it. My elephants (4 survived) had 1050 kills.

keep the cavalry near them so it instigates them. At the beginning of the battle he left one equites near them and the ran away when they got fiesty.
It's now unbeatable the horses just run over and don't activate unless you attack first

Yeah it's kinda buggy, sometimes they don't attack, sometimes they autistically attacking together with Pikemans
yeah, the general unit cannot hide in M2
Roman peltast units never do their worth. The only peltasts worth getting are light peltasts and dacian/thracian heavy skirmishers. In my Getae campaign a unit of skirmishers would get about 200 kills because I'd just lock in enemy lancers/horse archers/oathsworn in combat then just go around them with the skirmishers and activate quick reload. Would slaughter a unit of oathsworn on Very hard difficulty in 20 seconds.
One cheap stack of simple velites can destroy enemy´s best armored and equiped unit, it just need a good position to shoot from and if possible, from highground. They are not best unit but when talking about their worth and comparing to their upkeep and price, they ARE really worth it.
Javelins serve as the equivalent of rocket launchers in this game: Mostly useful against cavalry.

Are there more battles of the macedonian wars? i.e. Kynoskephalai or wars against the seleucids? The most important point is that macedonia has been severly weekended by the time pydna took place. There have been two macedonian wars before which severely weekened the forces of macedonia so the romans should have a really easy job defeating the remaining macedonian force at pydna. just saying...

Played this battle with DEI mod. Almost impossible, the cavalry charges through and somehow they cant get bogged down because of romes stupid unit collision so they waltzed through my rows of spears and cycle charge. Also the hasrati r trash rout even easier on DEI
I found this video and your comment after I just try this battle on DEI, man its so hard, i tried to engaged the hoplite and phalanx first so i can maneuver with my cav and elephant around their flank, suddenly there are a ton of fucking cavs emerges from BOTH of their flanks...
legend i wondered; when you do a co-op campaign or another campaign with another youtuber. do you split the ad money 50/50 of both vids or just you take your add money and the otherobe takes his own add money

Sarissa cav has bonus vs large and bonus vs elephants
Sarissa is also charge cavalry, they really suck in melee combat. I wonder how they managed to slaughter whole elephant stack as defender.....
the elephants were probably all close to death, hitpoints wise
