That was my first camera, and I still have it. The one thing I did like was by half pulling back the film advance lever you could turn on the light meter. The PW-545 winder was great it had three dials: single/multiple shot, shot limit (1, 4, 8 ,12, 16, 20, 24 ), and timer (full 0.5s, 1s, 2s, 4s, 8s, 15s, 32s). The downsides to the winder was the tripod screw socket was offset making it loppsided, and the grip got in the way of the self-timer. A great camera. PS: The film door also could be removed to put on a data back - never had one. :)
I've just bought one of these. I bid on eBay and no one else did, so it's on it's way to me. I did consider it back in 1980, but as I was planning a career as a photographer, went for the Nikon FM. It will be fun to try out what I could have bought.
thank you so SO much for this video. i have just been gifted the CE-4, but as i really struggled with the technical vocabulary in the user manual i found that some of the camera's function remained a mystery to me. your video has helped me understand my camera - i can't wait to use it! brilliant vid :)
Nice. I just googled the Agfa and wow you're right! They just styled it a little with that big red shutter button they're known for. I can see it's the same camera - the self-timer LED, the depth of field preview, exactly the same haha. nice one.
..nice video! I have a couple of Chinons in my collection for instance the CE Memotron ('74), CE-4s ('81) and the CG-5 with a odd looking AF lens attached on (based on near-infrared)😉 . The CE-4 / CE-4s model is very compact, light and usable indeed!
I found this camera in my grandmothers attic. I hope it still works! I'm getting some batteries asap. Fingers crossed! Thanks for the helpfull video! A zoomer doesn't know how to use these :)
Old Cameras The M42-mount Chinon Memotron series (CE, CEII, CE-3) are rather clever too, as they are - along with Cosina's Hi-Lite EC - the few M42 SLRs offering aperture priority exposure automation with any lens with automatic stop down via the pin at the back. I used a CEII quite extensively back then.
I saw one of these in a thrift shop for $120 (Australian) and unfortunately didn’t buy it as I thought the price (for an op shop) was a bit high. I now have a Pentax SMC prime lens I got for free and wish I had this camera to mount it on. Lessons in life. When I saw it from afar in the shop it grabbed my attention as I thought it was going to be an Olympus OM4.
Fantastic review very accurate. The feature I love DOF preview and Exposure lock. Which is not common . Prefer this camera over the Pentax ME and ME super
I own this cam too under the name Revueflex AC2 - which was distributed by Foto Quelle in the late 70s and 80s here in Germany. The Revuenon 50mm 1.4 lens on it is a great bargain for the price.
Chinon went bust in the early 2000's. Zeiss is made by Cosina after Kyocera cancelled the further development of Contax / Yashica brand. The Batis line is maybe made by Tamron - but I am not sure about that.
Al Green - Light Through Glass no worries mate. I thought I missed something. Chinon actually still exsist but they do very little with cameras and lenses now. During the 1990's they were kind of popular on the shelves of a retailer chain in Europe. The funny thing is I have never seen someone using a Chinon.
Great! It's pretty hard to find one online and I really want to try out double exposures. Does anyone know of any other analoge slr or rangefinder cameras with an extra button for double exposures? :-)
There is one in the UK with just over half an hour to go - £20 bid so far, sounds like a good deal. But if you're not in the UK, then postage will probably double the price. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/chinon-ce4-/252951090542?hash=item3ae50f556e:g:OioAAOSwX61ZBO6k
By this time you've probably already found a camera that has dedicated multiple exposure, but I would suggest the minolta X-E 7. it's a tank but in a good way. I only use that camera for double exposures and it's awesome!
Hey I picked up this camera recently in a thrift store, wondering should the lights turn green when properly exposed (like my Pentax ME Super). I can see my light meter move but it stays red. Wondering if I should take a chance and pop some film in. Thanks in advance!
at minute 5:17 the loading lever looks blocked, the same thing happens with my camera and I don't know how to unlock this... can you tell me how to unlock the lever please?
My CH-4 has stopped working unless it has a power winder attached. The Automatic Exposure light will not show and the shutter will not fire but with a power winder attached every thing works as normal even when the power winder is turned off and even has no Batteries in it. Has this happened to you, how can it be fixed?

I have the chinon ce-4s it's my main camera for photography I love it.

Wow that is the first 35 mm camera I had in the Nav... it was easy to take pictures simple for half sober navy guys...

Very good, clear description of the camera.
I own an Agfa Selectronic 3 which is identical to the Chinon CE-4. Works great. Other Chinon models taken over were the Agfa Selectronic 1 ad 2.
Nice. I just googled the Agfa and wow you're right! They just styled it a little with that big red shutter button they're known for. I can see it's the same camera - the self-timer LED, the depth of field preview, exactly the same haha. nice one.
My dad just gave me his Chinon CE4! What kind of film should I buy for it? Want to learn how to use it.
Thanks for the video :)

Hello, did it work ?
@@iliasbentabet1962 y e s. It's epic

I have that camera! It is a very nice camera indeed. Great review as always! Thanks
Thanks Elias. It' is a nice camera.

Nice break down, thank you 😊
You're welcome. I'm glad you liked it
Great review.Thank you👍
this was so helpful, thank you ! x

what a great video, what I needed. Thank you
Thanks for watching Jessica.
nice video. Welll done!! Vintage gear is still beautful to use.....(but change your describtion. I doubt that this camera is almost 1000 years old :-)
OMG, I'm shocked that someone actually read the description :) Changed :)
LOL I am shocked that you would care :-)

There were some amazing gems made in those days. Sometimes I can't believe how good some of those nifty fifty lenses are.
Wonderfully detailed and practical ... 1000 year old camera? No, not anymore XD
:) Time travel. Aliens brought the camera to us, obviously :)
hahahah, wonderful
Nice overview!
Thanks bro ✌
I have this camera, like the design but I never found the pictures really sharp.
The reason my mistake annoyed me is that I collect old lenses. I have a Chinon 50 - pretty solid.
Chinon went bust in the early 2000's. Zeiss is made by Cosina after Kyocera cancelled the further development of Contax / Yashica brand. The Batis line is maybe made by Tamron - but I am not sure about that.
My mistake - of course it's Cosina who make Zeiss.

Hello... what do you think about long exposures with this camera?
My shutter button and film advance lever is stuck. I have this camera. Could you help?
My CH-4 has stopped working unless it has a power winder attached.

Hey, i have one of these cameras now. Could i dm u with some questions? Thx man
Go for it. Sorry about the late reply...
(Mind you I don't have the camera anymore, so my answers will be from memory)
