Tragic story which is not uncommon among long-time survivors of HIV/AIDS from the 80s and 90s. However, it's also not typical for those newly infected or recently infected over the last ten years. Someone who is newly infected and begins medicinal therapy quickly likely will not suffer such complications. I want to point this out for newly HIV infected people because early diagnosis is terrifying and an emotional battle. There still is not a cure for HIV, but most newly infected individuals live normal lives by adhering to a strict, daily regiment of one or two pills. Emotional support and proper education with the most recent information are essential to learning to live successfully with HIV.
