And Melina loves them too: keeping the photo album, the red guardian uniforms, going after the red room, being hurt when Natasha said that they were not family, being hurt by yelenas crying. They love them they just not great communicators.

Such a great way to have this tough as nails, unemotional "hero" show there was something important to him without truly breaking him tough guy facade. Great inclusion
Although i really like the action and all in my opinion this was the best scene in the movie. Really added more depht to it. Awesome idea by David and great they included it

I remember feeling so disappointed of Red Guardian as a father, but then he sang “Bye bye Miss American Pie…”, turning my upset feelings to proud joy…
It was just a job, be he still did his best to be a dad to those two girls. Two decades in a Siberian Gulag couldn’t make him forget that song.
He literally has their name tattooed on him after his mission and consider them his daughters. He loves them he is just a raging idiot.

This was David's idea to put this in the movie and it has become one of the best scenes.
