Even though I might already know the vocab from your new series, I'll be so happy to watch new content that reminds me of my light during the pandemic and review after not being able to study consistently :,) Thank you so much Billy❤❤

      Have you already done my beginner course previously (or my book series)? If you have, then this series would be fine to start. If not, you can still use this course but you'll definitely need to pause it a lot and look up things that aren't explained using other videos.

    I love this series already! I just have one question, since these two are speaking politely with each other, why is it okay for 철수 to end his sentence "느낌도 들고" without a "요"? Is it not impolite? Thank you Billy!

    • @GoBillyKorean
      @GoBillyKorean  7 місяців тому +3

      It's because the sentence is supposed to be connected with the previous one (~고 "and"), so it's not a complete thought. It's not that it's finished, but that it would normally just be a part of what he previously said, and that previous sentence already is polite.

    x 들다 to me seems to mean "x 'doing the thing' ". 짐이 들다 - luggage lift (doing it's thing), 순이 들다 - hand lift (doing the thing), 힘 들다, 잠 들다, 시간 들다, 마음 등다, 돈 들다 - various meanings of require/happen/lift/enter. And 겨울 들다 also, 'winter happen'. So many things that 들다 is used for, and if I think of 들다 this way, a general 'doing the usual/expected thing', than I usually understand it's meaning. It's seems to me like a fancy word for 'do', but with general 'usual/expected thing' feeling attached to it.
    Does this sound like a good way to think of 들다 to you, Billy?

    • @GoBillyKorean
      @GoBillyKorean  7 місяців тому +2

      짐(을) 들다 is the verb 들다 ("to lift," "to pick up") and is not related to others. There's more than one verb 들다, so it can be a bit confusing.

    • @fransmith3255
      @fransmith3255 7 місяців тому +4

      @@GoBillyKorean Hehe, yes it's confusing. I've been thinking of these as the same base meaning but with varied grammar uses - a bit like we use the word 'get' in English. Thanks for the reply. 🙂

    • @angelaincanada-bq9ll
      @angelaincanada-bq9ll 4 місяці тому +1

      "들다" 의 변형이 아니라 "들어서다" 가 문장에서 쓰면 "올(해)겨울들어서" 또는 "올해 들어서"이렇게 쓰여요
      짐을 들다, 손을 들다, 시간이 든다, 마음에 든다. 조사 넣는게 힘들겠네요 많이 쓰고 보는 수 밖에요. 이렇게 쓰고 보니 한국어도 엄청 어렵네요. 영어배우는 입장이라 공감이 갑니다.

    "파세요": is the the noun "파" in Naver dictionary translated to group or clique? So I can ask my kids, "야구 파세요?" ??
    Thanks for your video, Billy!! This is great!! I knew most of the grammar and words, but this is awesome revision, and excellent listening practice!! And I learned a couple new ways to use some of these and a couple new bits of grammar, plus 파!! In other words, this is excellent listening practice for me!! Would this dialogue be upper beginner level, roughly? I understood it roughly at first listen, but not some of the detail, but I could understand everything (except 파) when reading (reading is much easier!). I'm kind of upper beginner, but nowhere near intermediate yet, I think - there seems to be quite a gap between listening for upper beginner and lower intermediate, right? Cheers!! 😁

    • @leehartman3103
      @leehartman3103 6 місяців тому +1

      If you asked me "야구파세요?", I would be confused for a second and think you're asking me if I am a fan of baseball who is against other sports fans, for example 축구파, 농구파 etc. Some people could misunderstand the question as “야구 용품 파세요?” They’d think you're asking if they sell baseball products because "파세요?" is a way of asking if someone sells something. By the way, I’m Korean.

    • @fransmith3255
      @fransmith3255 6 місяців тому

      @@leehartman3103 Thank you for answering. Hehe, yes, I wondered about 파세요 as sell. So to ask if someone is a baseball fan, could you say, "야구파 있어요?"

    • @leehartman3103
      @leehartman3103 6 місяців тому +1

      @@fransmith3255 You could say that in a certain rare situation. Let’s say you’re in a bar with dozens of people passionately talking about soccer. They seem like huge soccer fans, but you’re a baseball fan and get bored by their conversation, so you might jokingly say, “Are you guys all part of a soccer gang or something? Is anyone in here a member of a baseball gang? (당신들 다 축구파인가요? 여기 야구파 있어요?)” People in the bar could understand what you’re saying as you first labeled them as “축구파” and then used the word “야구파”.
      I hope that now you've realized that ‘야구파’ isn’t a word that you can hear often. If you want to ask someone if she or he is a baseball fan, you can simply say, “야구 좋아하세요?” or “야구 팬이세요?”
      Common words with '파' that you might want to memorize are 좌파, 우파, 찬성파, 반대파, 강경파, and 온건파. If ‘a noun + 파’ isn’t one of those words that you can find in a dictionary, ‘-파’ could refer to the name of a criminal group. For your information, 동아파, 동성로파, and 범서방파 are some of the criminal gangs in Korea.

    Hello billy i just wanna ask about the “바람만 안 불어도“ can i ask why there is 도 in there? 도 means “also”, “me too”, “even me” right? But the translation doesn’t have that word.

    • @GoBillyKorean
      @GoBillyKorean  28 днів тому +1

      You could also translate it literally as "Even if only the wind didn't blow," but that would be too awkward to comprehend so I made it "If only it weren't windy." Sometimes you might want to think of "even" as meaning "if only" when used with negative verbs. As long as you understand it, it's fine :)
