Thanks! The way you analyze their speaking is veeeery interesting to me (I'm a teacher who loves linguistics). I have something in common with you hehehe I've been living in Brazil for 47 years and now I teach Portuguese for foreigners. I think it's even easier for us, because we know the struggles we had while learning the language, focusing on "facilitating" our students' progress, don't you agree with me? Oh! Today is Suga's birthday! I watched his vlive... well, my Korean is extremely basic hehehe, but I'm so happy, because now I can recognize some words and based on the context I can imagine (wonder?) what he's saying.
Thank you so much for this series! I was recently diagnosed with hyperactive ADHD, and discovered why learning languages has always been difficult for me - which is basically I have to be interested and engaged. Learning Korean through BTS, music, K-Dramas and cooking (all things I love) has made it fun and much more successful. These videos are perfect for this! 감사합니다!
Hiya from the US. I just wanted to drop a comment to help with your YT channel (and this video), as well as to tell you how interesting I find your videos. I have been attempting to learn Korean for 8+ years or so now, but grasping the correct conjugation, not having anyone to speak Korean with, and being much older when I began learning have all hampered my progress. Your Korean is amazing. I am especially impressed with how easily you read Korean and how in-depth you go when explaining vowel and consonant usage. I am a writer also, so when you broke down RM's use of language in another video, I very much related to your and his speech pattern. I also do not know in what order one should begin learning, i.e. learning to write/read in Korean versus speaking Korean. I have subscribed to your channel and smashed the notification(s) bell. Thank you for making such well-thought-out videos and making them so fun to watch. I look forward to watching them all. :)
you did an amazing job, loved the video, i also loved the reference to their track paldogangsan ! and it's a funny coincidence that you're posting the video about yoongi on his birthday aha
Yoongi is, in fact, the member that I struggle the most to understand 🥲 I'm not fluent, but I've reached an intermediate level, and it gets frustrating at times! Even tho I've lived in Busan for seven months, getting used to that intonation wave is not easy! And yoongi is your typical Korean that, especially in informal settings, mumbles a lot, talks to himself a lot, and has a very low speaking voice, as you pointed out! So it definitely gets tricky. Can't wait for the J-Hope video! Hobi speaks so damn fast hahah
As a beginner in Korean (who stopped learning about 5 years ago😂) Jimin is the easiest for me to understand. I cant wait to see what you come up with, when he used to go live alot it was so easy for me to understand at least 70% of what he was saying..it’s completely different with him and other members and idk what it is
i love this series!! one of my biggest frustrations about not knowing korean is missing the little nuances of their speech, which often doesnt come across in official or fan translations AT ALL besides the occasional “said cutely” 😭 it is such a huge insight into their personalities. i should rlly dedicate more time to learning korean…
빌리 감사합니다. Love this series and your insights on our guys. So interesting and looking forward to the next episode. Thank you for doing it on Yoongi's birthday too x💜
This is so so informational! I'm adoring this series so much, I especially love learning about satoori, and how each member uses it! Yoongi is my bias so this video was really awesome to watch hehe, I've always found his voice very soothing and easy to listen to, but do struggle the most to understand him fully. I'm semi-fluent and still struggle sometimes, but that just means I'll know I've gotten better when I can understand him better! Thank you for these videos!
Thank you for this! I'm just starting to learn a little Korean to prepare for my upcoming holiday there and Suga is my bias, I love his voice and the way he talks even though I don't understand anything 🤣🤣love from Australia 💜
Aww this was great! I actually like how straightforward Yoongi is. 😊I should probably study his writing for translation! I’ll try to look up some posts of his! I like hearing him speak it’s calming…I can’t wait til you get to V because as far as listening goes…I could understand him the most learning wise. I’m curious as to why, if he speaks in satoori sometimes.
Oh hey you don't have to worry about this. I'm a native Korean who's older than Jin, and even I found it hard to understand him in the beginning and even these days sometimes (especially when several members are talking at the same time lol). He is just one of those speakers who mumbles and who don't put much effort into pronouncing words, so you'd often have to ask again. There are lots of "s" sound pronounced as "th," vocal fry, and volume suddenly decreases at the end of the sentence, turning into a self-talk.
I'm glad that you included yoongi's 굉장히 for this video. That's how often he use it, sometimes I add 굉장히 when I write diary ㅋㅋㅋ also I like the way you pointed out that in the beginning yoongi being loud and excited and his voice becomes tiny gradually. thank you for always making great video, can't wait for the next ones! 윤기에 대해 영상 만들어주셔서 감사합니다 빌리 쌤!

Hi Billy! I am loving these BTS videos, thank you for doing them. I was wondering if 엄청 is also a filler word that is also just a word in the way you described 굉장히? I only recently learned the word 엄청 but now I feel like I hear it a lot in dramas.
It *could* be a filler word if it's used without much meaning, but I wouldn't really call it a filler unless someone used it without really meaning "really."
I had a friend who would start his sentences louder and then drop off towards the end like Suga. It was so hard to hear him. Everyone would have to ask him to repeat things often but even repeating a sentence he would still say it the same way.
The reference at 17:45 cracked me up - I could almost hear you trying not to say it in time with the beat! If you continue the series, Paldogangsan would make a great video on its own.
This video is great. This really shows that by learning the language it shows a whole new side to the idol and a whole new understanding. I will be watching this whole series :)

Been waiting for this one. Funnily enough, Suga and JK’s lives are the ones I watch without subs most often so I can force my ears to (eventually) adapt and understand. Honestly though, it’s working. I’m starting to catch more and more without rewinding 10-15 times. Also, their dialects are so fun.
I have been wondering for ages why Suga's v-lives, specifically, were always the ones I could never make heads or tails of. (Jin was the easiest for me, except when he got in a tiff and started talking like he was in the rap line LMAO.)
08:55 since I prefer learning korean by listening to videos or livestreams, personally Suga's voice is quite easy to understand for me. Instead I have difficulties understanding speakers with a really strong pronounciation haha (I should turn on korean radio more often to practise ㅋㅋ)~~

He’s also been less stoic and has generally had a much lighter energy about ever since coming back from his shoulder surgery
@@StarlightStella613 it's a speciality of Gyeongsang-do(his hometown) people he said that on last KKUL FM that they show affections with actions more than words it's hard for them to say i love you to face but they love each other in different ways and express in different ways if we look at yoongi it's same he took care of members quietly and show them love with actions he also said it's a trait he got from his father.
dudes giggling and kicking his feet to bts
i love it
He's just like me fr fr
@H0NS00L me too bruh 💜
This is such a great video. I love that you mentioned how he *sounds* serious, but he's actually a very playful person. People seem to misunderstand that about him. He's one of my biases, so I really appreciate this video helping address that. This being posted on his birthday is awesome!!
This bts series is so interesting! Can’t wait til you get through the rest of the members- they’re such genuine talents but also very engaging personalities!
I love this! Yoongi's voice is so calming to listen to, and his letter to Jimin is just so sweet. He's lovely! Thanks for taking the time to make this video, and to release it on Yoongi's birthday too
💜Happy SUGA day🎉. Thanks Billy,this series is awesome 👏
Thank you for doing this bts series .. I appreciate the effort ..💜
Also thank you for uploading Suga’s part on his birthday , am happy as an ARMY to know more about them💜
17:50 it's the lyrics of one of the bts' songs. It includes all types of 사투리, 'cause all members came from different regions. You guys should check that song out, it's quite funny to listen
song name?

I love how Yoongi mumbles his words he sound so soothing even his quiet voice is relaxing
Thanx Billy! I'm really waiting for Jimin's video cause alot of Korean speakers have said that they really love the way he speaks and that it's easy for Korean learners to understand.
He's the easiest for me by a ton.
Don’t know if it was intentional, but this was a lovely insight to Yoongi on his 30th birthday! 💜
This is my favorite one so far! 굉장히 is going straight into my Anki deck!!! I've always found Yoongi very hard to understand because of the mumbling (and now that you point it out, probably the intonation too), but seeing a breakdown of how direct his sentences tend to be makes me want to go find some of his writing to use for translation practice and/or sentence mining. Thanks so much for this! I can't wait to hear about the others!
I continue to love this series Billy! Thank you. When Yoongi lets his voice get very low and soft he goes into this kind of 'mumble voice' that I find just beautiful to listen to. And no ARMY is surprised that Yoongi is concise and direct 😂 Love that you posted this on his birthday. 💜
Just in time for Yoongi's bday 💜
and yes..Namjoon and Yoongi's speaking and songwriting style is very apparent..ut both genius 💜
I am a linguistic person (applied linguistics) and currently studying Japanese. I really appreciate your deeper analysis of the korean language usage of Suga. I really liked it.
did anyone else start singing “서울 강원부터 경상도 충청도부터 전라도‘ at 17:45?! that was so smooth, billy!
thank you so much for doing this series! it’s incredibly interesting and i cannot wait to watch the videos for the rest of the members! 💜
Brazilians are everywhere, heheheh Abraço de SP ✌
@@sarsysnape obrigada! Um abraço soteropolitano pra você hehehe (morei antes em Curitiba, por 21 anos), agora virei baiana de Salvador, ôxe!!! hehehe
감사합니다!
Thank you so much for this video, Billy! I'm a huge fan of BTS and Min Yoongi and I am so very happy you covered his way of speaking!
wow! as a korean, your lecture is very easy to learn.
좋네요
Happy birthday Suga! Great episode Billy, thank you!
wow cannot imagine how much effort you put into this. i am amazed.
you did an amazing job, loved the video, i also loved the reference to their track paldogangsan !
and it's a funny coincidence that you're posting the video about yoongi on his birthday aha
Happy birthday, Suga! I love his voice so much. I'll put on his unboxing videos for ASMR. Thanks for breaking down his speaking style.
Thank you for these videos!
wow! what an indepth analysis! very impressed with your knowledge !
I really love this series! Thank you so much. I have watched BTS content for years and now I am learning about the patterns and sounds I've noticed.
V confuses native speakers a lot. I'm very curious about him for sure 😁
Taehyung also grew up a large majority of his youth in Daegu and also considers it his hometown. He split his time between both
What interview was this? I only ever heard tae say he was only born there. He does consider it his hometown but he never claimed to grow up there.
watching this video made me appreciate our ARMY translators even more

I'm glad that you included yoongi's 굉장히 for this video. That's how often he use it, sometimes I add 굉장히 when I write diary ㅋㅋㅋ also I like the way you pointed out that in the beginning yoongi being loud and excited and his voice becomes tiny gradually. thank you for always making great video, can't wait for the next ones! 윤기에 대해 영상 만들어주셔서 감사합니다 빌리 쌤!
J-hope uses 굉장히 really often too 😅
Thanks for making this video series. I'm taking your Beginner Course and am in Bangtan Academy and I've been having a hard time feeling motivated but these videos cheer me up and inspire me.
For me as a southern American, I resonate with the way Suga speaks the most.😅
i love how you actually studied the members and added receipts from the depth of their contents
Lmfao Billy is a smart man. He knows who his audience is
Oh I thought you made thr other members analysis Patreon only or something like that
Suga is my bias I was looking forward for his analysis
he's the member I most wanna sound like in my Korean, I'm tempted to go to Daegu and learn with the accent/satoori 😂 I love his drawl and flow 💜
but he doesn't actually use satoori much...
@@curvytangerine he dips in when he’s surprised and excited, that’s what’s fun… esp in run episodes
@@aylablue669 all I'm saying is this: if you want to learn Gyeongsangbuk-do satoori, knock yourself out. it just won't be very useful as far as sounding like him in general. he's not one of the members who uses satoori in his daily life.
When i have problems to sleep i turn on a video of Suga spreaking beacsue his voice helps me.....ans since i dont understand korean i can fully concentrate on his voice! I try to learn korean since 5 years but its immpossible for me...i cant!!
"He's good at not being bothered."
That's a whole ass mood right there. Someone I wish to aspire to, seriously.
I love this series! Thank you very much for all your work ☺️❤️
thank you for this, my main goal in learning korean is to be able to understand Suga and mainly Suga so I would appreciate more on this subject, I also liked the fact that I feel seen cuz when he lowers his voice even tho my undertsanding is at a begginers level, I knew that he is harder to understand than other people but it's comforting to know that in time it will be easy cuz he's so straight foward
It's the purr for me right before he speaks lol
Another AMAZING analysis Billy! Loving this! It is helping me so much when I hear the boys talk. Thank you so much!
Billy-nim, I love these videos so much! Diving into their distinct voices and manner of speaking has been something I've been curious about for so long. And, as a Korean learner it's extra interesting to break into their writing + grammar choices, too. I am looking forward to the rest of this series. Borahae(yo) :)
@@GoBillyKorean ohhh I get it. Thank you
I believe a member once said when he speaks he sounds like he’s drunk but he’s not 😂😂
I had a friend who would start his sentences louder and then drop off towards the end like Suga. It was so hard to hear him. Everyone would have to ask him to repeat things often but even repeating a sentence he would still say it the same way.
Thank you for your Video, and Happy Birthday to Suga💜
Happy birthday Yoongi!!!!
17:50 satoori rap
I love how Min Yoongi acts and speaks like a disgruntled grandpa sometimes. Our endearing Big Purr Purr.
"If you know it, you know it." - I cracked up so hard.
I’m not even one minute in and I’m so pumped for this!!! 🎉🙌🏿👏🏿👏🏿💜✔️
The reference at 17:45 cracked me up - I could almost hear you trying not to say it in time with the beat! If you continue the series, Paldogangsan would make a great video on its own.
billy you're giggling at bts videos like you're one of us 😭
This video is great. This really shows that by learning the language it shows a whole new side to the idol and a whole new understanding. I will be watching this whole series :)
lovely video, thank you! subscribed! ❤
Billy, I really love this series. Thank you!
I dont follow BTS much but ive been drawn to Suga. Especially when I listened to him as August D. I think Im 100 percent intrigued by him after this especially how much I relate to his personality. On another note, this is the first video I watched from you and I throughly enjoyed it. You are very clear and the use of korean and english subtitles help a lot. Im currently learning Korean and will be watching more of your channel along my journey.
I have been following BTS since 2019, and your videos give a totally new perspective of BTS. I am learning BTS at a deeper level, as well as further understanding the korean language.
Man these analysis are so interesting to watch
Thank you for all of the tips! Been learning for a while and SUGA is my bias but I have had such a hard time understanding him! I feel like I can make progress now!
you're a real one for the paldogangsan reference! really love these videos, thank you!!
thank you for this series!! again, this helped me know a different side of the guys through their manner of speech and writing 💜 hopefully, you'll make a part 2, too!
Really enjoying this series, thanks for making these! Would love to see a video from you explaining/commenting on Paldogangsan too!
absolutely love this series! thank you so much for the work you put into this!
YOUR GO BILLY?! I have had your book for years now.
its his 30th birthday today i love him so much. thank you for this video!
Thanks for this! Would love to study more of him. Analyzing the letter to Jimin was very interesting!
Look forward to Suga tour and album!
Well 😂😂....
😂😂😂 so true
i like how passionate you are about Korean language! :-)
08:55 since I prefer learning korean by listening to videos or livestreams, personally Suga's voice is quite easy to understand for me. Instead I have difficulties understanding speakers with a really strong pronounciation haha (I should turn on korean radio more often to practise ㅋㅋ)~~
