    Thanks for watching! Apparently the section I had meant to include about older bootloaders didn't make this edit for some reason. If you're worried, I had the oldest possible bootloader (no number at all) and never had an issue, even while testing experimental firmware. The potential issue only applies to .bin files that are either 0 bytes (which shouldn't happen if the file downloaded correctly) or over 3.5MB (which also shouldn't happen). For what it's worth, my understanding is this bootloader issue is also present with official firmware and is more a concern for devs who will be installing a lot of different test firmwares.
    You can read more about it here:
    github.com/SynthstromAudible/DelugeFirmware/wiki/Bootloader-precautions-for-%22numeric%22-Deluge-developers
    I used the info on that page to update mine and it was very easy.

    Related to the delay golden knobs, the upper knob when clicked cycles through Even notes, Triplets and Dotted. I use it all the time to change delay to dotted 😊

    First off...thank you so much for showing the New Community Firmware WITH the old screen...a lot of us (who couldn't get in line for the screen-upgrade in time) have been worried. Consider being our "champion" and use a zoomed in camera (with settings that show the old screen in detail/contrast) for us to learn.

    Amazing video! Loved you focusing on QoL aspects. These could be easily integrated into the Official Firmware easy peasy. One note though, about installing the Community Firmware: I wish you had made it clear that having an old bootloader bricks the Deluge when attempting to install the Community Firmware. Perhaps a link in the descritpion? Or a note on video? Cheers! Keep up the good work!

      Thanks. You are incorrect about the bootloader though (and there is already a link in the description about the bootloader stuff). Maybe you skipped the intro? As I said in the video [EDIT: I was wrong, the bootloader stuff was accidentally left out of this take in the intro. Sorry! Will add it to a pinned comment], I had the oldest, most risky bootloader and never had an issue. I also pointed out that you just need to make sure the .bin file is not 0 bytes or over 3mb (which it won't be under any normal circumstance). The link in the description also explains how to update your bootloader just in case, which I did, easily. Good luck!

    My Deluge is under the bed but I need to dust it off. It's og screen and has a dry joint on the mic so hisses and rumbles.
    I really want to sort it because it's now a super interesting device again.

    • @BayMud
      @BayMud  11 місяців тому +2

      Totally worth it! Mine is battle worn at this point and could use a pad refresh (I also had to replace 2 encoders and the input jack). If the mic is just a bad solder joint that could be easy enough

  • @stoehr
    @stoehr 8 місяців тому +1

    I’m a musician…but have next to no production background. Wanting pretty much a standalone type device to play around on and eventually maybe release full blown tracks. Got my two top choices down to the Deluge and the Roland SP404 Mk 2 (quite a bit different…I know). If you were a newb like me, would you suggest a Deluge?

    • @BayMud
      @BayMud  8 місяців тому +1

      For what it's worth, I came from a guitar background and it took a while to find a device that fit the workflow I wanted. I haven't used an SP404, but I know a few Deluge owners that have both and think they complement each other well---they seem to use the SP404 as more of an FX/resampling box to run the Deluge into. I don't know enough about that device to say how good it would be for producing full tracks. Personally, I love the Deluge, but started electronic music with a Novation Circuit, so I was already familiar with a screen-less pad-based workflow. Some folks find the Deluge frustrating or hard to use because of all the shortcuts and button combos, but I have found it to be very intuitive (I still haven't upgraded my screen either, as I don't feel I need to at this point). You could always join the Deluge Discord or Facebook group to ask some questions or see if there's anyone near you with a Deluge that you could see in person maybe?

    • @stoehr
      @stoehr 8 місяців тому

      Thanks for the reply. So is the Deluge something a complete song can be made on without too many weird workflow hiccups?

    • @BayMud
      @BayMud  8 місяців тому +1

      @@stoehr I've made an album and and 2 EPs almost entirely on the Deluge---I do still prefer to master the stereo mix in Reaper, to make sure the levels/EQ is ready for release. I've also started using it to demo/write guitar-based stuff too, as it makes for quick arrangements or creative decisions (can use it as a looper as well). I'd say the biggest current draw back is that there isn't an easy way to export individual stem tracks yet, so you either have to do it manually instrument by instrument, or just do the best possible mix on the Deluge and export the stereo mix (which is what I do most of the time).

    Great vid! 9:29 is the filter morph only avail on a per clip basis, or also “affect entire”? I’d love to have a SP404 Superfilter - basically LPF to HPF as you have in video - on whole mix. Can’t seem to figure it out though

    • @BayMud
      @BayMud  8 місяців тому

      I don't believe the morph option is available at the song level at the moment, only on clips (same with filter routing, which is fun to try if you haven't yet, as you can change the order of the filters or even run them in parallel!)

    • @BayMud
