11:33 Alyssa has a very valid point. I could care less if my EV had a front trunk or not. Plus, living in a cold climate with snow and freezing temps. It’s pointless to even use the front trunk. Throw it in the car!
The front trunk is brilliant in the cold when you have leftover food from a restaurant or refrigerated or frozen groceries. Plus your restaurant food won't make your car smell like it
I love the front trunks on both of my EV’s. I always put take out in frunk so I don’t stink up the car. Funny, I distinctly remember one of the first times I saw a Model S about 10 years ago, a guy came out of a Pagliacci Pizza branch in Seattle and put the pizza in his frunk. 10:58 - I love using the front trunk on my Model Y. There are many things I use it for. * If I need to be able to use something without having to unload the cargo in the back of the car to get to the underfloor storage. (IE: Charging cable, tire inflator, etc.) * For holding food without having to worry about it smelling up the cabin interior. Also, if it spills it's easier to clean up. * For storing valuables that you don't want other's to see. It's easy to smash a window and grab a laptop bag from the backseat, but thieves won't bother trying to rip open the front trunk.
I know this is unrelated but man gotta give credit to Apple for creating a camera system on an iPhone that looks so good it can be used for high quality UA-cam videos. Colors always look crispy 👌🏽
I still think the DJI Pocket 3 is a better choice for these daytime videos. The gimbal makes it far superior; the stabilization is much better. And it has a 1" sensor comparable to many large cameras in terms of quality.
As someone who dislikes being interrupted, Kyle interrupting Alyssa is fingernails-on-a-chalkboard level of behavior. Alyssa had valid points, but often couldn't complete a sentence without being interrupted. The Prologue seems to be exactly what the mass market would be happy with. It needs to be a useful vehicle first, and an EV second. Few owners are going to want to rip it through a canyon (something for the Acura, no?). So long as it parks well, feels confident, and can accelerate with a full load of people, it's going to satisfy. Lacking lane-keeping is a miss, as is the lack of SuperCruise. Love the real door handles! You didn't do a parking lot test with it. You didn't take it through a Starbucks drive-through. That's where these vehicles will spend their lives, so hopefully you can test those things when you have more time with one. Years ago, we had a Honda Odyssey. Great utilitarian vehicle. Hauled more than an SUV, V6 power was more than enough for city and highway driving, great daily driver, great road tripper, very reliable. If this checks those boxes, it will do very well. Unfortunately, I think this is a Honda Passport for the new generation: a short-lived interim model until Honda gets their act together. Can it live up to the Honda name? I'm not convinced.
Re comparing the Prologue to the Tesla Model Y Performance @1:08:39 - the Prologue has more ground clearance, which is useful to folks who need to travel on rough roads or in snow.. The ride comfort in Tesla Model 3's and Model S's is not great. I can't imagine it's better in an MYP. You describe the Prologue as being comfortable and quiet. This is of more value to me than 0-60 time. Putting roof racks on Tesla Model Y's has challenges due to the all glass roof and short crossbar spacing. It looks like the Prologue will offer better options for those of us that carry surfboards, paddleboards, bicycles, etc. It's not just 0-60 time that makes a car. Please consider other use cases in your assessment of a vehicles utility to it's potential owners.
One look at that list of charging stops immediately shows me what a headache it would be to road trip one of these. Nothing beats the Supercharging experience.
It's such a shame that the once rightly dominant Japanese ICE manufacturers refused to go with EV'S and now they seem forced to have partnerships with other EV manufacturers to just put their badges on vehicles, to presumably keep their loyal customers on board, while they admit that they were wrong and start developing their own models.
It's almost an insult to the avg consumer that such a talented engineering company would dumb sh*t down because why not? Honda is straight up saying "just make something... and the fool consumer will buy it. amirites?" The "sport" mode having no power change and only being a sound change. WTF? Eff you Honda. Consumers should get more. I love Honda/Toyota ICE cars. Have owned several. H/T's EVs have been mostly garbage. Bizarre. Kinda hope H/T lose going forward to make way for better tech.
@@bucknut2000 I'm not so sure any more. The Japanese were of the opinion, that EV'S would fail. The head of the Japanese Motor Organisation, who was until recently the head of Toyota, is still of the opinion that EV'S are just a fad. He's more interested in hydrogen than electric! Basically he's a petrol head and a dinosaur.
@@TJBellamy99 The average consumer is not buying EV'S yet. The average EV buyer is way more savvy than normal. Especially with these kind of extensive reviews so easily available.
You missed (glossed over, actually) one very important feature the Prologue has that the Blazer does not have: Car Play. I drive a Bolt, my son drives an i4, and my daughter-in-law drives. Polestar 2. Neither of us, nor anyone else in our family would even consider a Blazer, Lyriq, Equinox, or any other GM Hybrid because GM does not offer Car Play on their EV’s; whereas the Prologue features Car Play. I can’t speak for Android phone users, but not one single iPhone user I know would ever give up Car Play.
The combination of frunk and dog mode is extremely useful on the Model Y. Say you have your dog with you and you have to make a couple stops on the way back from the grocery store. You can put the groceries in the frunk without risking the dog getting to them, or driving him insane cos he wants them so badly.
I think these GM based experiments are going to be a nightmare to get serviced or within a few years of buying. Especially any sort of electrical system gremlins. Reminds me of the Cummins based Nissan Titans in that regard.
The front trunk is the only way I was able to make an out of town trip for my family of six work at Christmas in our model y. I was able to pack all of our clothes in the frunk, presents under the rear hatch and a bunch of baked goods/food in the behind the seat storage. The efficient storage packaging is the only way we can make that car work for us 😊
I was a Honda person for many years before switching to electric. My concern is that GM doesn’t have the greatest track record for quality and longevity, we’re on the opposite end Honda has a track record similar to Toyota where you see many of them driven to 300,000 miles easily. as a Honda person for most of my life I would never consider purchasing this vehicle knowing that it was GM underneath, I would consider purchasing Honda underneath… with GM switches, because I’ve had multiple Hondas that I’ve driven past 250,000 miles.
Except for they’re not. GM is shit, Ford is even more shit and for the last 30 years Honda can drive three times longer than either of those brands with 10% of the issues. But we all have our opinions.
GM quality is far higher than Tesla, for instance. Buick's are habitually rated highly when it comes to quality. Even including the Bolt's issues, which have all been fixed, GM's quality on its EVs is pretty high up. You can say 'GM is shit' but that's pretty much an opinion that isn't grounded in fact, particularly for the last 10-20 years.
Like I said 5 months ago, GM/Ford/Jeep it’s all crap. I completely understand supporting economy within the United States and the benefits of that. The problem is you have to pay more and it’s historically proven that the product lasts not nearly as long. The beauty of life is that we all have our opinions, I base mine off of facts. Recall statistics, personal experience … and the simple notion that most GM customer you meet, start to consider getting a new vehicle at about 100,000 miles, because that’s about when their extended warranty ends. Why do you think that is, GM products fail… a lot, and their interior quality isn’t great… for example in the Honda prologue… which is 100% a GM interior. Whereas a Honda owner knows their car will go at least 250,000 if not 300,000 miles before there are any real issues. Anyway, like what you like for the reasons you like it… I’ll do the same.
@@Nickkenf1 Like I said, that is YOUR OPINION. Data says otherwise. I'll take professional opions, based on real data, over some random UA-cam guy's feelings. So, yes, like what you like, hate what you hate and time to move on.
Our Honda Clarity Electric would not charge on Signet or certain BTCPower chargers. Their response: "American Honda does not warrant the vehicle to operate with the public charging network." But this car has GM charging components?
I personally think Honda is wrong that current Honda owners will transition to this, especially once they learn it’s really a GM product. Devoted Honda owners will know something isn’t right as soon as they sit in it. Honda owners buy “Honda” vehicles not a GM vehicle with a Honda badge.
They bought the old rebadged Isuzu Rodeo (Passport) back in the 90s. We had a lot of Honda faithful folks angry over it. I wouldn’t be surprised if it sent some of them to different dealers/brands.
Agreed. Honda loyalist buy them because of reliability. This is an expensive vehichle and has no HONDA guts with GM having a bad track record with EVs. There is no guarantee on reliability here. This will be a very short run vehicle most likely.
@@joshreed1216 love the negativity. Thing has not even hit the showrooms and the whining already starts. I doubt Honda would put their name on it when it was total garbage.
@@heiner71 did you not watch the review? If you did, did you ignore every negative? Did you ignore the overheat warnings or the fact that reviewers weren’t allowed to charge them?
The advantage of trunks is that when driving cars in winter you can get stuff from the frunk without letting all the cold air inside the car especially when you open trunk and a door at the same time when traveling with multiple passengers.
My only concern is if local Honda dealerships will be knowledgeable enough about this to service it in 5-10 years. Not only is it a niche EV, it's from an entirely different company/manufacturer that they've already said they won't continue the partnership with.
Honda techs are familiar with series hybrids, which are essentially EVs with more complexity. Although, if it’s anything like when Honda sold the old Passport (an Isuzu Rodeo), they’ll just have a porter or tow truck take the car across town to a Chevy dealer to let the local Ultima techs deal with it. I worked as a porter at a Honda dealer in the late 90s and would drop off Passports at the Isuzu dealer several times a week. They were huge POSs that enjoyed frequent major failures and long-time Honda owners were complaining about cheap truck ‘features’ (leaks, creaks, rattles, terrible handling, etc).
odds are this will be a short run vehicle. 5 years tops. It will be replaced with something honda built from scratch. This was only a joint venture to get the tech with GM. There is a reason the venture has been cut off before the car has been released. GMs EV track record is not good. Could you imagine if the prologue came out before blazer and it was the one that ended up with a stop sale. It would be bad for their first ev to be a horrible PR run. Its already concerning how much this things launch is being pushed back and that they wont let them charge them on the test drives.
Side note for Ultium vehicles. They will connect to a hotspot and use that connection exclusively for everything from infotainment to navigation to supercruise data, etc. So even if you let the data connection subscription lapse or 4G gets phased out it will still connect to a 5G (or 6G at that point) hotspot. I already do this now with a verizon 5G hotspot because AT&T sucks where I am.
My wife is a Honda girl, too, but I was hoping for something with better range and charging for the occasional road trip. Probably a fine around-town car, though.
I’m a former Honda owner, have an EV6 and love it. I really hope that Honda has a good lineup of EVs to choose from 10 years from now, after I drive the EV6 into the ground.
This car is really nice looking but to me the Blazer EV looks way better. It looks a little meaner. By the way, remember Honda's old tagline, 🎶 "Honda, We Make It Simple!" 🎶 Gr8 vid as usual. 🚙 🇺🇸 🇯🇵🔌⚡
Not even close. Expecially with the GM ev track record behind it. This could backfire and hurt the honda reliability name. The Y has way more to offer tech wise than this, and constantly gets major improvements through its ownership.
Lost me at sister product to a…GM. I like the color and nice styling, but no GM products for me. Regardless, fantastic review and insight from the channel!
Can you elaborate on the 12v battery problem and pigtail adapter? I'm planning on buying a Prologue soon and living in Manhattan it will be parked in a garage most of the week (possibly 2), to be used primarily on weekends. A 12v battery drain problem would be a nightmare. Can you share your thoughts?
As someone who is a big Honda fan, and who owns one, this is my opinion on the prologue. As someone who owned multiple Hondas before I feel like that this Prologue is a nice car but does not give the Honda vibe. Whether it’s the keys the steering wheel or other stuff they are way different then what you would see on a Honda because those are GM designed. I’m also curious of how the reliability will be.
Hate to say it, but I prefer the Blazer EV infotainment/nav system. Of course, I don't use Apple Carplay, which seems to be the biggest gripe for a lot of people. That, and the charge port door which is a valid complaint.
I love my minivan. I've got a Chevy bolt I've got a Ford F-250. But the use cases and practicality of that minivan exceed a of those vehicles as daily driver
@@roadfordays Bummer to learn of your Pacifica issues. I’ve rented one 3 times within the last two years and mostly enjoyed. The box van is so utilitarian! Hoping warranty and techs get you 100%.
I am someone that would prefer to avoid Tesla. Part of that is Elon, another part interior feel and overall build quality, last part is it’s just the brand when someone thinks EV. I still meet people that think Tesla is the only EV manufacturer. All that being said I would consider the prologue if it weren’t for the lack of smart cruise control. All new cars should be able to lane center and keep pace with the car in front of it. There are no excuses in 2024. Update: I am being told the Prologue does have smart cruise control. So I am definitely going to consider it.
The Prologue has it!!!!!! It comes standard with the Honda Sensing system (or what ever it is called). I have a 2023 Honda CRV Hybrid and is has excellent lane centering, adaptive cruise control that you can adjust the distance, etc. Please do not be mislead by this review, he didn’t know how to use it!
Same, even charging cable point is not relevant for most people, charging stations have their own cables, and for charging at home, you can just keep cable there, no need to transport it anywhere.
Dealers with adopt EVs or perish. There's still plenty of work to do on them from a service perspective. They won't have the oil change cash cow, service departments might become smaller, but they'll still exist.
Every time I hear them refer to a 60k car being a “cheap” car or a “starter family car” I feel so deeply offended. When did a $60k car become a cheap car?
Honda has always been good with its partnerships. In the 1990s it partnered with Isuzu to get into the SUV market. This allowed Honda to spend less money and time on R&D while it built out its own in-house SUV unit. I can assure you they will most likely come out with their own in-house built mass-market EVs within a couple years.
@@GaryJohnWalker1 Land Rover had been having reliability issues and Honda didn't even try to change a thing other than plastering its logo on the Discovery. But above all they did learn a thing or two about SUVs from that brief mistake. In the US, the Passport and Pilot have been very solid trucks in the last 20+ years.
I can't help to think how far behind GM/Honda is in EV engineering and software design. $47K for FWD was a good price two years ago, but not after Tesla cut the Model Y price. I like the style, but not like it enough to pay more for a poorer engineered car.
It does allow the DCDC to charge the 12V but apparently only when the high voltage systems are on… so if you park it for a long period of time they said 12V could be an issue
@@OutofSpecReviewsAssuming this will use the same HondaLink app as other Hondas, you can simply set a HVAC preconditioning schedule for 2x a week while you’re away, which will throw the contactor for 20 minutes at a time. I agree, Kyle, this looks better than the Blazer. As to the slow steering and widenss of the vehicle. E-Odyssey, anyone!?! Can't wait for this to hit the streets. The more BEVs the better. My wife has an 2023 Mach-E which is (frankly) getting long in the electic tooth when compared to these upcoming vehicles but this is just like a "normal" car cycle. It will be a bellwether day when we stop thinking of these as electric vehicles and refer to them as just cars.
It seems like a Model Y dual motor long range, for far less cost, with way more power, similar size, more range, faster charging, excellent lane centering standard, and of course full access to all Tesla Superchargers is, on paper, a way better deal. Brand loyalty will let them sell a few, Musk's Tweets will push some away from Tesla, but Hyndai, Ford, Kia, etc. also have alternatives.
Looks cool. Interesting Honda partnership with GM; surely Honda would move to develop their own platform over time? Also, wonder if that front trunk will be included at launch - seems like there's sufficient room for it to be easily accommodated.
Just so it's consistent with other Honda vehicles, they should have abandoned the '70s Cadillac style shifter and the combination turn signal/ wiper stalk which I find way too busy. When you step into this it should be consistent with other Hondas. The infotainment system is different enough, but these minor details do matter
the lane centering is really a hint for the driver that he is leaving the lane. My Dads Cadi's had that. Also my Rivian does that as well as the driver plus.
A lot of the early "issues" with Hummer EVs was the trucks sat for 3-6 months in a lot in Flint and the 12V batteries were dead and likely ruined from an extended discharge.
Great video per usual! Prologue seems like a great option! I do think Kyle should spend time in an AWD Lyriq, would be curious to hear his comparisons from AWD Prologue to AWD Lyriq.
Great review. I drive a CRV and got to sit in a prologue a week ago. I liked it. But like you said, you pay more and get less than the benchmark model Y. I would have been willing to pay more, have the smaller cargo space, higher curb weight, and slower charging if it could have just been a 0 to 6 seconds with reasonable comparison to other vehicles. o to 60 in 7 seconds is atrocious for an electric vehicle in this class.
You can tell they were constrained by GM's shortcomings. Honda would never make a car that lacks headroom for rear passengers. GM has made many with that problem.

Act 1 !!!
10:58 - I love using the front trunk on my Model Y. There are many things I use it for.
* If I need to be able to use something without having to unload the cargo in the back of the car to get to the underfloor storage. (IE: Charging cable, tire inflator, etc.)
* For holding food without having to worry about it smelling up the cabin interior. Also, if it spills it's easier to clean up.
* For storing valuables that you don't want other's to see. It's easy to smash a window and grab a laptop bag from the backseat, but thieves won't bother trying to rip open the front trunk.
re: "thieves won't bother trying to rip open the front trunk." correct, they'll only do that to steal the headlight units out of 911's and Taycans.
Kyle, I hope that you get to review the BYD Seal on you next European trip.
I would never ride with Kyle on winding roads. Alyssa is a real trooper.

Honda is straight up saying "just make something... and the fool consumer will buy it. amirites?"
The "sport" mode having no power change and only being a sound change. WTF? Eff you Honda. Consumers should get more.
I love Honda/Toyota ICE cars. Have owned several. H/T's EVs have been mostly garbage. Bizarre. Kinda hope H/T lose going forward to make way for better tech.
The average consumer is nit going to know that. They are going to see the Honda badge and that’s it.
They are devleoping their own.
Especially with these kind of extensive reviews so easily available.
whellp, at least this didn't brick on the review drives like the Blazer EV was doing. So that's something.
Real dials for AC controls is nice. I hate the trend of haptic/touch/screens for everything. When you are driving you just need something tangible.
I agree it would be better to simply give everyone credits for home charger installation.
The combination of frunk and dog mode is extremely useful on the Model Y. Say you have your dog with you and you have to make a couple stops on the way back from the grocery store. You can put the groceries in the frunk without risking the dog getting to them, or driving him insane cos he wants them so badly.
Alyssa is definitely stepping up and being more confident. Nice job.
This car is perfect for existing Honda owners
I think these GM based experiments are going to be a nightmare to get serviced or within a few years of buying. Especially any sort of electrical system gremlins.
Reminds me of the Cummins based Nissan Titans in that regard.
The front trunk is the only way I was able to make an out of town trip for my family of six work at Christmas in our model y. I was able to pack all of our clothes in the frunk, presents under the rear hatch and a bunch of baked goods/food in the behind the seat storage. The efficient storage packaging is the only way we can make that car work for us 😊
The Prologue is really quite handsome. That's a great color too.
Your ideas regarding Honda vs GM quality are 20-30 years out of date.
They won’t let you charge…hmmm. Are they hiding something?
Absolutely. Nobody has charging figured out except Porsche and Tesla.
Our Honda Clarity Electric would not charge on Signet or certain BTCPower chargers. Their response: "American Honda does not warrant the vehicle to operate with the public charging network." But this car has GM charging components?
Charge is slow
Definitely shady!
Honda wouldn't sell it if they didn't think it was a good product.
Points to ponder
A front trunk is a measure of how proud/competent engineering that went into the car.
There is a video of Munro fainting after removal of the frunk from Mustang EV and discovering a horrible mess under the hood.
It has AC buttons. Wow I am sold.
That look Kyle gives Alyssa at 42:40 is priceless.😂😂😂
what's with you zoomers talking like 55 year old white women? "Priceless"? Really?
Side note for Ultium vehicles. They will connect to a hotspot and use that connection exclusively for everything from infotainment to navigation to supercruise data, etc. So even if you let the data connection subscription lapse or 4G gets phased out it will still connect to a 5G (or 6G at that point) hotspot. I already do this now with a verizon 5G hotspot because AT&T sucks where I am.
As always the best walkthrough. Love how you explain the stuff you cant read from the specs. (like regen)

My 2004 Honda Pilot has 366,800 miles on it. The Prologue is nice, but do you think it is worth $8,000 more than Model Y after tax incentives?
Not even close. Expecially with the GM ev track record behind it. This could backfire and hurt the honda reliability name. The Y has way more to offer tech wise than this, and constantly gets major improvements through its ownership.
Except Y LR gets tax credit. This does not. Inventory Y LR are 47k vs 59k for this.

In the vid it would have been nice to hear more comparisons with the competition like the Id4 instead of talking about GM every 2 seconds.
I’m also curious of how the reliability will be.
heres something to consider, having all those wires/fuses/components exposed under the hood, makes repair easier.
Kyle-- please do ADAS test of the Prologue thru the Hogback challenge!🎉🎉
Hate to say it, but I prefer the Blazer EV infotainment/nav system. Of course, I don't use Apple Carplay, which seems to be the biggest gripe for a lot of people. That, and the charge port door which is a valid complaint.
This will be very successful for Honda
Excellent review. Love Honda unfortunately GM not so much. Waiting on an EV minivan 🎈
It’s as if Honda forgot that their clientele are not, generally speaking, GM fans.
I said the same thing. If it was pure Honda, I’d be more of a fan. But a collaboration with GM? This vehicle will never be in my driveway.

Though, also in the 90s, Honda might have regretted rebranding the LR Discovery as the Honda Crossroads for the JDM.
Honda, it's never to late. Love the colour too.
How does a modern car not allow the high voltage battery to maintain the 12 volt battery.
Unforgivable.
Just gm dumb shit
It does allow the DCDC to charge the 12V but apparently only when the high voltage systems are on… so if you park it for a long period of time they said 12V could be an issue
Sounds like a GM car.
@@OutofSpecReviewsAssuming this will use the same HondaLink app as other Hondas, you can simply set a HVAC preconditioning schedule for 2x a week while you’re away, which will throw the contactor for 20 minutes at a time. The fake engine sound is pretty annoying watching the video. My Model Y just quietly “goes”. Quickly.
The stop sale in the blazer is not much to do with the Ultium platform itself. It’s the infotainment system
Not everyone wants a Tesla….
It's a honda, backed by Honda's build quality, warranty and service, that's why many people would pick this over a model Y.
I did
I really loved your in-depth review of the Prologue! It was a very interesting car at the Auto Show and this may go in to be a great seller
the lane centering is really a hint for the driver that he is leaving the lane.

Slowly other EV manufacturers do seem to be learning. It will take another few years for many of them to catch up to best design practice.
38:38 time stamp - the homelink support website indicates a GM product. 😂
You can tell they were constrained by GM's shortcomings. Honda would never make a car that lacks headroom for rear passengers. GM has made many with that problem.
Have you had a chance to test the charging on this yet? Is level 3 possible at Tesla chargers?
Great vid btw!
