"Shake me. I make bubbles." Can we have this on a T-shirt please? 😆😆😆
Please! I need this as a shirt! Or sticker at least!
Y’all i don’t get it
Or a bookmark ❤❤❤
@Mary Kirkham agreed, a tshirt!!!
Sticker or bookmark please
Omg wooooow, your conversation about how people with chronic illness downplay it so that others won’t get tired of them and leave them alone… I teared up. I screen recorded it to watch later and to send to my loved ones. Thank you so much for that
This year I realized all my favorite books had Battle Grannies in them. Ring Shout, Nettle and Bone, Legends and Lattes and The Three Body Problem. Old dears running things, she's not knitting so much as pulling the strings. Heh. I love it.💸
Nettle and Bone and Ring Shout were also two of my favorite books this year!! I also loved Legends and Lattes even though it wouldn’t have quite made my “best of” list. You have good taste! 😁
You love the books I hate and hate the books I love 😂 Absolutely love the rage you ignite in me 😭❤️
Since you love Peter Pan, I would suggest Brom's illustrated retelling, The Child Thief. The artwork is fantastic and the story is so amazing and horrifying. Highly recommend!
💸Ok I'm not even at the books yet... but THAT cardigan! 😍💀❤
Ok I'm back with book comments: Hex was in my top 5 last year, I adored it in the way that you can still adore something when it's ripped your heart out and stamped on it in front of you. I said thank you and read it again
I too am a fat person. Also I probably could tell my story about why it was a relief when my mother passed away. Adding all these to my TBR. It’s pretty cool when someone reads what I like. Lianne I love you and Harry. Take care.📖📚💀❤️🧡💛💜💙💚
💸 I've just managed to secure Peter Darling and We were liars on Libby - excited to read them, thank you for the recommendation! My favourite book of 2022 was in your worst books list 😂 So let's not talk about that. Bella Mackie Stan account over here. Here's to a brighter 2023 💸
💸💸💸💸 Loved this !!!!! Thank you Lianne 😊
Lianne thank you for being you🤗💸💸💸💸
Recently discovered your channel and I've been binging your videos as I love the way you talk about books. You are so articulate with your views that makes me want to grab (or avoid) the books you talk about!
Oh my god the cardigan? I LOVE IT!!
Notes on an Execution was my favorite book of 2022. And I also reread Devil of Nanking. I love that book. Happy New Year.🤷♀️
My favourite book of 2022 was The Smallest Lights in the Universe by Sara Seager. It’s a memoir by an astrophysicist on the autism spectrum who searches for exoplanets and was widowed at 40 with two young children. It was so powerful.
I read some pretty great books this year! Top three are probably Tripping Arcadia by Kit Mayquist, Speak of the Devil by Joe Laycock, and The Girl with the Louding Voice by Abi Daré
I was waiting for Duck Feet to make an appearance on this list! I'm so excited to pick that up for my Reading North project 💘
"Definitely my most metal cardigan." Amazing start.
I read SFF (not including horror) almost exclusively, but several of these sounded so awesome I will have to step out of my comfort zone to read them! Like The Invited and The Last Day of Spring. FAREWELL MONEY 💸
👋👋bye bye 💸 💰
🤗 hellooooo 📚 📚
🥰❤️📚
💸I have to try Peter Darling now. Thanks for sharing a great list. Happy 2023.
💸💸💸 I’m in hard mood reading mode but wanted not to think about what to pick next. So I said I would buy whatever you said was #1. There I go back into Neverland!
Omg! If you love Peter Pan that much you and Harry need a trip to my little town of Kirriemuir!! About 2 hours north of Edinburgh and set close to the local glens and Glamis Castle, you can visit J.M. Barrie's birthplace (family home) and learn how he came up with the idea of Peter Pan. Our little red toon is very small and quint but we have a grand statue of Peter Pan in the town square! Please come 🙏 and I would happily meet for a coffee to answer any questions! Thank you for all these book recommendations 😊👍 yet again another fantastic time had adding your recommendations to my wishlists and libby 😂😁
I bought a copy of "Legends and Lattes" with my Yuletide gift cards and loved it. I do agree that the plot was a bit lacking but I can forgive that because of how cozy it was and how much I needed a cozy read. I also bought "A Lesson in Vengeance" and enjoyed it, so I appreciate the recommendation.
Thank you for your thoughts on "The Atlas Six". I have heard mixed reviews but trust your judgement, as you haven't steered me wrong yet. I currently have 43 books on my "Literary Diversions Recommends" shelf on Goodreads, so I hope to read more of those this year. I feel like it's going to be a dark academia themed reading year for me and I am not at all upset about that.
Peter Darling BLEW MY MIND. I’m so glad to hear you talk about it. It should be way more popular. It’s so interesting and brilliant.
Liane, i know you did this video over 6 months ago but I just wanted to thank you for opening up even just a little about these books and why they are on this TOP 10 list. I absolutely loved Jeanette McCurdy's book and I did have the actual copy but I did have the audiobook, highly recommend that to hear how Jeanette tells her own story. The only other book like this that I would love to read is PageBoy by Elliot Page. Love from Ohio to yous
💸💸 My favorite books of the year were all of Lily Mayne's Monstrous series and Strange Love by Ann Aguirre.
💸💸💸 I think my favourite book last year may have been The Traitor Baru Cormorant by Seth Dickinson - there were so many times that I gasped out loud. Close second would be A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness - that one brought me to tears.
My favourite book of 2022 was Under the Whispering Door by T.J Klune
You have the right to remain fat. I'm rendered speechless about the insights brought to me by this book. I have a lot of work to do. Ever indebted for bringing this book to my attention.
This💸 is very appropriate since I just ordered a bunch of new books😅
That shirt is everything! The invited, the whistling and first day of spring have been on my list since the first time I heard you talk about them, they sound sooo good. Duck feet sounds amazing too.
My favourite books last year: this is how you lose the time war, nettle & bone, Jane eyre, my dark Vanessa and Jonathan strange & mr norrell💸
💸 my favorite books of 2022 were The Great Alone, Know My Name, World War Z, Emma, Lessons In Chemistry, and Sundial. I can’t choose.
My 5-star books from last year, in the order I finished them, were:
Firekeeper's Daughter by Angeline Boulley
The Goblin Emperor by Katherine Addison
Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir
The Anthropocene Reviewed by John Green
Light from Uncommon Stars by Ryka Aoki
Magpie Murders by Anthony Horowitz
The Last Graduate by Naomi Novik
Strange Adventures by Tom King (graphic novel)
Iron Widow by Xiran Jay Zhao
The Golden Enclaves by Naomi Novik
And hey, that's exactly 10! I'd be hard-pressed to rank them, though!
The Shadow Glass feels like it would be right up your alley! Its full to the brim with Jim Henson 80s nostalgia and shenanigans a la Stranger Things 💸
💸 my favorite book was- Bryony and roses by T Kingfisher 🥀
Such fun.Enjoyed....
I’m SO happy you forced The First Day of Spring on us! It quickly became an all-time favourite of mine. I (naturally) forced it on my loved ones too- My Mum still can’t grapple with how hungry that poor girl was….
💸 My favourite book of 2022 surprisingly also turned to be a novella: A Prayer for the Crown-Shy (sequel to A Psalm for the Wild-Built). Might've just been that I was watching a lot of the YT channel Andrewism at the same time but it truly encapsulated everything I care about!
Not much plot, though, but a lot of philosophy 🙈
I'm so glad that Peter Darling was your favourite read from last year - it's one of my all-time favourite books and probably my favourite retelling. 💖
This is it! This is the video I've been looking forward to so much 🖤
Legends and Lattes was a surprise favourite read of 2022, I just adored it from start to finish! 💸💛
I think I've added most of these to my wish list over the year, but your excitement makes me want to push some of them up further.
My favorite of the year is definitly Slow Damage. It is not a book, it's a 60 hour long visual novel but it is so worth it. When I got to the true ending I almost cried and it is HARD to make me cry, my dude. It is just such a touching story about people learning to accept themselves and continue living on with the trauma they have experienced in life, it is really beautiful ... and extremely disturbing. Slow Damage has SOOOO many trigger warnings, I'm honestly surprised I haven't heard anyone describe it as a horror work, yet.
But despite that I start tearing up from just thinking about it, I love it so incredibly much.
"Just in case anyone is house hunting at this time, it's a no from me." 😆😆😆
It's been a while since I read Peter Darling (and loved it) but now I feel like I should probably reread it.
💸
💸 my money will most definitely be flying away because every book you've recommended that I've read I've loved. I just finished The Strange Case of the Alchemist's Daughter and loved it.
I loved Legends and Lattes. My favorite book from 2022 was Cemetery Boys by Aiden Thomas.
Loved loved loved We were Liars, cannot finish The Invited, just can’t get into it, Legends and Lattes was nice but I agree had no plot, absolutely loved everything by TJ Klune, A man called Otto was also high on my favourites, also loved The Snow Child by Eowyn Ivey
Top mention for the 3 Richard Osman novels, actually couldn’t get enough of them❤
I loved Peter Darling! I also just let the story unfold and was surprised as things happened. Such a great reading experience!
Ask Me About My Uterus sounds like something I'd really enjoy reading. It's been added to my TBR. Thank you!
💸I had no real favourites in 2022 - unlike most here I don't read so many - last year I read 28 books - stop laughing! Two do stand out more than the others - The Ten Thousand Doors of January by Ali E. Harrow - I enjoyed this one more than any of the other 27. Also - Things in Jars by Jess Kidd - I did enjoy the story but I loved the way she described things that happened - like the change in the space where a particular person was/went. I have now moved to the Discworld and will be there for the foreseeable future 😁
I adore your content! And have loved many of your recommendations! Which makes me especially happy as we share a name! 🤣 💸
I ordered The Invited the other week because of how you talked about it in another video. I also ordered The upstairs room. I've never read a haunted house book type thing before so... wish me luck!
UPDATE: I have now read the Invited and it was AMAZING!!! Taking a break with other books but I'll definitely read the upstairs room soon now because I think I can definitely trust your judgement on haunted house books (and others).
Only 5⭐️Book for me in 2022 was A Flicker in The Dark by Stacy Willingham. 💸
Two my favourites were The Angel of the Crows and A Life with Footnotes 💸
I now have to read some of these books.. I especially am curious about your #1 book.
Have you read Darling Girl? It is a semi recent Peter Pan retelling. I felt it was very well told and that it had a lot to say. I didn't like it by the end, just because of how flipped everything was. I had some hard feelings, however it would be worth you reading if you really are a Peter Pan fan. Theres a lot to unpack in that retelling.
I read The First Day of Spring because of you and loved it, and I just immediately borrowed Peter Darling (despite not having much interest in Peter Pan). Sounds fascinating!
Officially terrified to read Legends & Lattes...it sounds so good and it's sitting beside the couch, staring at me, daring me to see whether it lives up to the awesomeness. :)
I really didn't enjoy The Invited but I don't remember it well enough to tell you what I disliked 😂 My favourite book in 22 was Euphoria by Lily King. It was about anthropology and a very passionate love triangle based on a true story. It didn't sound like my kind of book but someone recommended it and it was free on audible plus. It blew my mind ! 💸
The Invited and Legends and Lattes were both fantastic!
I read Jennifer McMahon’s the Winter People and loved it and have been meaning to try another one of her books!
Yes yes yes Jennette’s memoir is so good
My favourite was The Kraken Wakes by John Wyndham! I loved The Whistling and We Were Liars, The Invited is on my TBR and I need to pick up Family of Liars now!💸 I have done a haul recently so my money really is flying away 🤣
yeeeeessssssss Peter Darling!!!!!! One of my fave queer books! I'm also a huge fan of Peter Pan retellings. I really loved Peter Darling for the darker elements it focused on and the relationships.
💸
I’m new to your channel and I’ve curating my list for 2023 based on your recs here and your most anticipated video. Thanks! 📚
Long time viewer first time commenter! 💸💸💸💸💸 Love your videos and vibrant personality Lianne 🥰 I’m very intrigued to pick up Peter Darling and ever since your vlog reading Duck Feet I have been desperate to read it and I can’t find a copy anywhere. I live in Australia so if anyone can help a sister out that would be great 😂
Never Let Me Go was my favorite of 2023 😭💛
💸 My favorite book I read last year was an ARC of The Crane Husband by Kelly Barnhill. A novella - dark retelling of The Crane Wife. Comes out next month. So good!
Don't mind me going to order myself a copy of "Peter Darling" 💸💸 My favorite read this year was basicall everything by Alix E. Harrow. Love her!🥰 And I've just finished "The first day of sping" ...Amazing!
I loved Sistersong by Lucy Holland the most this year.
Lianne’s hot water bottle joke made me cackle. I’m currently sitting on a lot of pillows because IBS is an awful thing. Chronic illness peeps unite!
💸 I didn't like Peter Pan, but I put Peter Darling on my wishlist 😄
Some of my favourites from last year: Diary of a Young Naturalist, Amongst Our Weapons, Snapdragon, Brazen 1 & 2, Lightfall 1& 2, Born on the Water, Stay Another Day, Fifty Words for Snow 📚
💸 I’m off to find Peter Darling…
💸 My favorite book I read last year was Where Hope Comes From: Poems of Resilience, Healing, and Light by Nikita Gill .
Have you seen the Lockwood and co Netflix show!!!! It’s sooo good and I kept thinking of you. Please say you’ll do a react video or watch along!
I loved we were liars so much!! Not me not wanting to read family of liars though
Tough to pick one favorite, so my top 3 are Comfort Me With Applies by Catherynne M Valente, Slewfoot by Brom, and I'm Glad My Mom Died.
Slightly more high stakes - You can't have Treason without Tea
💸💸 My favorite book was You Feel It Just Below the Ribs by Janina Matthewson & Jeffrey Cranor - I think you'd enjoy it too. I don't usually rec it to horror readers bc I don't think its what ppl expect from Horror™ but I really appreciated it as a literary piece/thought experiment.
💰
I don't normally jump on hype trains, but I read I'm Glad My Mom Died at the very end of last year and it was fantastic.
