I upgraded to Sequoia (15.2) today after lingering on Sonoma for as long as I could bear, hoping these such issues would have been sorted out by now. I was wrong. I left my MBP locked for 2 hours. When I returned, it had restarted itself and was piping hot. Apple never does anything right anymore.
I've not tried it myself. VMWare will pull Windows and Linux for you so you don't have to get or make your own .iso. I don't think that I've tried installing macOS on VMWare before. Maybe UTM. You could always give it a try to find out. I'd have to download the .pkg and convert it to an iso and I'd probably want to do that on my Studio.
There's a long list of bugs at MacRumors. I am running Sequoia on three Macs and my workflow is smooth with it but people I always recommend testing your workflow before upgrading.
I learned this a a decade and a half ago, never put yout laptop to sleep. There is inconsistencies in sensors and software. For the same reason, I disable all options for sleep and/or closing the lid, so I consciously shut it down.

Just wanted to use the new xcode but think I’ll stick with bigsur on m1
Maybe some of this is intentional to guide consumers to buy new products and ditch the old laptops like MackBook Pros from 2019?
I imagine that this problem would be pretty unfriendly to Intel MacBooks. I think that it's just more a bug as I didn't see it in 15.2.
The same happened to me. now, I'm trying to update to 15.0.1 let's see if this fixes it.
mai Air M1 is heating too much on charing and while resting too
is that fixed now?
Can I run sequoia in vmware😅

Mac OS Sequoia is so buggy, and they changed how Macs fan control works!!!
