I finally got to photograph the Sunflower fields in full bloom this November 2019. The MHS loop starts almost in my back yard in Chiang Mai. I've been around it 3 times counter clockwise and 4 times clockwise plus about 6 solo trips to Pai. Clockwise is good for first timers as the curves get progressively more intense giving the rider time to get used to the motorcycle before all the straightaways vanish. (assuming it is a rental bike). There is so much to see and do, one could easily spend a month on the loop and not see everything. By the way, there are a number of waterfalls that claim to be the tallest or biggest in Thailand. You are exactly right about the MHS loop being an ultimate bucket list activity. Thai Highway 68 (coming out of Doi Inthanon Park) is much more curvy than 108 down to Hot then turning toward Mae Seriang so you probably did more than the 1864 curves. In 2018, Thailand banned big bikes in the National Parks so I haven't visited Doi Inthanon since then, pity. Thailand's idea of a big bike is anything over 440 CC.

Excellent video. I rode this loop last week on a 650 Versys and loved it. I stayed in Mae Sariang and Pai.
    Did you like the Vstrom?

Whats the "new road" called after the mae surin waterfall? Towards the 108 with the lake at the end. Is it the 4009? I can't seem to find it. Thanks for the video!

Thanks for this question. We took this road without knowing if we reach our destination or not. And, this road is not on the map, as well as that small lake. I bet there is just no internet connection for Google to recognise this as a road. Anyway, I think this is the road - Rural Rd Mae Hong Son 5035, but this one is starts 108 road, then brings you to the lake, and the - Mae Surin. Much more adventurous then just follow 108, and much faster. You can stop in those tiny 10 house villages, mate - locals will react funny on ya! Safe travels!

Cringed a little at the Thai town name pronunciations..haha, but enjoyed the video.
I regularly ride the MHS loop and N.Thailand as I am lucky enough to live here.
    Safe travels! :D

Regarding your better half ;) ...i loathe to be a pillion. Its wearying. Being the rider means you keep alert and it is exhilarating. Maybe she should take up riding herself, or try it out. It changes the experience completely. Good luck! :D

You're very lucky indeed! As you can tell, Thai is not my first language! Thanks for watching!

I could never be a pillion either! And she has zero interest in riding herself. For now, she'll cope with the rear seat!

Please turn the background music off when you are talking. Or much lower volume. Thanks.

G’day mate. Luggage wasn’t a problem and we did book hotels in advance. Make sure the bike you hire has panniers and you’ll be ok.

What's your definition of the word negative mate? Everybody else thinks it's pretty cool.
