In Louisville, the first 12 episodes of Super Jeopardy aired on WLKY with the 13th and final one airing on WHAS, whilst in Lexington, WTVQ aired Super Jeopardy for the entire 13-week run, and this episode was the last Jeopardy episode to air on WTVQ before moving to WKYT 2 days later; WTVQ wouldn’t air an episode of Jeopardy for 30 years.
@FutureNewsAnchor The funny part about it is that the ratings that year Head of the Class were fairly good, but ABC had a powerhouse lineup of comedies, so I guess they had to ax one of them... :)
Contestants: 1. Bob Verini ($146,802) (New York City) 2. Bruce Seymour ($55,989) (Piedmont, California) 3. Dave Traini ($70,502) (Medford Lakes, New Jersey)
This was the last game of "Super Jeopardy!"? Why didn't Alex have all the other contestants come out on stage? He used to do that for the last game of a tournament.
This was before it became a social empire. It didnt become popular til maybe 8 years patet with a new set and music. It was popular dont getbme wrong it wasn't up to the apex of 10 15 years like i mention 8 years or so after then i was awesome with college championsip million dollar masters the the ultimimate tourament of champions. Bob verini set the stardard for brad rutter then in turn for ken jennings then james holthauzer
Unfortunately, there would not be another Super J! tournament next year as this was the only one, lasting only 12 weeks, pairing it with another Merv Griffin Production: Monopoly!
In many ways, Super Jeopardy has returned, but not the tournament itself. The difference is, values for Double Jeopardy! are exactly twice the first round instead of 2.5 times.
Contestants complete on SUPER JEOPARDY! by invitation only and the contestants in the initial rounds are matched at the sole discretion of Jeopardy! Productions. Contestants must meet eligibility requirements. Portions of the program not affected the outcome of the competition have been edited. Created by Merv Griffin, Hosted by Alex Trebek,Announced by Johnny Gilbert. Co-hosted by Anthony Grasha. Copyrighted 1985 Jeopardy Productions.
The first season of the Trebek era was recorded at Metromedia Square in Hollywood, then for the next 9 years, it was at Sunset Las Palmas Studios, and since 1994, it has been based at Sony Pictures Studios in Culver City, CA.
I think in that case, it was because it was the very first Tournament of Champions, and it had a rather unexpected champion In Jerry Frankel (he was "the longshot" as Alex put it, as he lost his quarterfinal match and made the semis as one of the four wildcards).
Well, he couldn't have done it alone. Here are some executives who helped him do so along the way: Mort Werner, Bob Aaron, Herb Schlosser, Grant Tinker, Brandon Tartikoff, Bob Iger, Ernest Chambers, and Roger King.
SUper Jeopardy!'s ratings weren't that high(neither were Monopoly's) save for the first week. After the first week, the ratings went down. If ABC would have done a primetime tourney like this a decade later in the wake of WWTBAM's success, it might have done better. The 13th episode of Monopoly did not air next, rather an America's Funniest Home videos special aired after this finale.
After this, it would be 30 years before "Jeopardy!" was ever on ABC again. And in prime time.

I've never seen an episode this old! Can't believe how different everything looks.
0:05 Love this guy's pure joy and relief!

Rest in peace my dear friend Alex Trebek 🕊️

Anthony Grasha Jeopardy! is a production of Merv Griffin Enterprises in association with Columbia Tristar Television. Distributed by KingWorld.
@@LOLMAN9538 Columbia/Tristar did not own Super Jeopardy! or Jeopardy! until 1995.
I'm confused, Super Jeopardy! aired on ABC, right? so why was the KINGWORLD logo at the end.
SUPER Jeopardy! was taped at Hollywood Studios Center
Did I mean Hollywood Studios Center? I Mean Hollywood Center Studios!

@@danalong1237 Sunset Las Palmas Studios is actually called Hollywood Center Studios.
@ukendcx2000: Me, neither, although I used to dance around to its theme song for some reason.

This is Johnny Gilbert speaking. Jeopardy! is a production of Merv Griffin Enterprises and it distributed by Kingworld.
He never said that at the end of "Super Jeopardy!"

Also, long before Martindale even hosted "Tic-Tac-Dough", he hosted "Gambit" for Heatter-Quigley Productions on CBS from 1972-1976.
Alex was very laid back on the $250,000 win, he was more excited on the $100,000 win in 1985.
I think in that case, it was because it was the very first Tournament of Champions, and it had a rather unexpected champion In Jerry Frankel (he was "the longshot" as Alex put it, as he lost his quarterfinal match and made the semis as one of the four wildcards).
National championship
I agree and yes, even Brandon helped him out, too when he over NBC during the 1980's
@FutureNewsAnchor Merv probably went to ABC asking about doing Super J! again, but they probably turned it down.
Well, he couldn't have done it alone. Here are some executives who helped him do so along the way:
Mort Werner, Bob Aaron, Herb Schlosser, Grant Tinker, Brandon Tartikoff, Bob Iger, Ernest Chambers, and Roger King.
Dave Traini got off to a very bad start in double jeopardy.
Bruce Seymour: December 31, 1987-January 6, 1988
Watch the guy who won @ :23 watch his hand!
wINK mARTINdale WAS already famous, with Tic Tac Dough.
