I love when people say she's lip syncing, because let's face it.. Her voice is just amazing. Even with a problematic voice, she still sounds better than most popstars today.
+Ariana Stacey She's been sounding AAAmazing on this tour. This is definitely NOT lipped. The phrasing during the climax is completely different than the original and other performances on this tour. In this rendition, she sang the last "and you coming back to me" much lower and the final "that's the chance I got to take" is less forceful. Not to mention there's much more melisma thrown in at the end.
+Mariah Careylove I love Mariah. But she lip syncs. We have to take it as it is. If you listen closely you will hear the voice changes and you will notice that the high part is pre recorded. The change starts when she sings "But to wait for you..."

Great performance: She lipped, and tabloids say nothing Bad performance: She can't sing, tabloids talk about it for a long time. coughChristmas2014cough
She had to lower the key, because "Miss Mariah" can no longer hit those "triple highs" as easily as she once did. Phil Collins still sings this in the same key, after all of these years, because he DOESN'T have to hit "triple highs." And no matter WHO covers this masterpiece, Phil Collins version is STILL the only one that matters.
waitressman1 oh? I never said this is better than Phil Collins'. I said, for me, this arrangement is better than HER recorded one. It is only a semitone lower than the recorded one. It's not "triple highs" that you are talking about.
Number 1) Phil Collins sings this song in the same key as Mariah, but he doesn't jump into another octave like Mariah does in the climax Number 2) Mariah has always lipped the climax of "Against All Odds". She has many pre recorded tracks of this and many of her songs. And in this performance she is indeed lipping the climax.
1) It doesn't take a music expert to tell if someone's lip syncing or not (clearly you are not an expert) 2) I don't see you referencing any "degree" or "experience" in your posts. (hypocrite alarm)
@@Felicity_Young No. He meant that the key at 2:55 differs from the original one. Instead of reaching higher, it tones down and sounds differently, which is interesting.
@@karaoke_bqv That's melodic change then, which was used to transition it back to the original melody at the end of the climat. The key remains the same. You can tell she even forgot about that initial change because she mimes a high note at 2:53 (But YOU coming back) when the recorded track actually goes back down.
the voice changed at 2.37 because her tone can slightly change during singing or styling or nodules acting up, not because of pre-recording. This is an easy song.
OH MANNNNNNN AT THE BRIDGE PART!!!! Only her can do that.. No matter what she does with the notes, high or low, it's always beautifully sympathetic to the song! Queen!!!!!

When a singer sings a song and that song touches a person very soul, it creates a connection and Mariah has been doing that to me every single time i hear her sing and thats why i love her so much.
I’m a huge Mariah fan and feel she is the greatest female vocalist of all time, hands down. But being familiar with sound engineering and the “tricks of the trade”, I can tell she is singing LIVE until the 2:36 mark. At that point, they dub in her studio vocals for the remainder of the song (she could have several versions of studio recordings on file as most artists do). It’s STILL her voice, just not live. There are several ways to tell: 1. The most obvious is the timber/tone/overall-quality to her voice/mic that changes at that 2:36 mark. Her voice is noticeably thinner before that mark as it is sung from her throat, then suddenly thickens up and becomes more of a full, rich sound from her diaphragm, even though most of the song is being sung at the same pitch. Granted, she is (after the 2:36 mark) adding riffs and runs at the top of her register, but that shouldn’t change the sound of her overall voice that intensely. Plus the sound of her voice after the mark, sounds mastered in the style she had in the 90’s. She uses her current style of mastering on the Emancipation albums and all the albums after that. 2. The effort. Notice before the 2:36 mark, you see her bottom row of teeth prominent during every phrasing (a lot! - she did not have to sing like that before)... This is because she is using more effort than she used to have to use to reach the same pitch. The result will be a forced & thinner sound with less ability to hold the note for extended periods of time (cause you run out of breath much faster that way - that’s also why a lot of her current live riffs on older songs are more staccato/rather than long-held continuous runs). After the 2:36 mark, her bottom row of teeth disappear because she is no longer having to sing as she begins to mouth the words at that point (no more struggle). Although she has now jumped an octave, she is showing almost NO effort (facial expression/teeth/eyes) which would be very visible at this point (as you can see in her earlier 1996 concerts when her voice could do anything it wanted to live on stage - her face shows the effort being put in even while she is reaching notes others could only dream of hitting). You don’t see that here. She remains poised and casual, like it took less effort to hit these huge notes than it did to hit the lower notes before 2:36. I don’t believe she has “lost her abilities” I just feel that she plays it safe when she needs to because after years of use (and possible misuse) of her vocals, her voice is less reliable and consistent when having to sing live, let alone having to sing 12-15 back to back number one hits that cover 5-6 octaves a piece.. Again, I am NOT hating on her, she is my favorite artist of all time and has the greatest voice the world has ever heard. It’s just what is really going on here. Again, whether live or prerecorded, it’s still her voice and yes, she just. did. that....

@@kennethdennisrojo1891 I mean, Lambs know well that part was lipped. I just don't see how such a long passage of explanation as to how she lipped is necessary lol.
I think playback starts at 2:36 when she starts with "but to wait for you" - her timbre is slightly different, and her vibrato is less laggy. The playback is placed in an ideal spot because it's not discernable from the notes she hit prior, and your ears adjust to the decibel/mic changes from there on, so then when the climax hits, it sounds the same as what preceded it. Also, on the climax she does a gesture on the word "you" on "and you comin' back to me" that doesn't sync with the vocal, but would sync with more emphasis on the word "you" in other lipped climaxes. She's got several versions to trick people. She loves her music and what she does, and I think she would be crazy enough to have this many lipped versions, lol. Mariah wobbles too much on regular notes to nail the climax like that. With that said, Mariah has shown plenty of amazing long belted B4, C5's, D5's, and some beautiful E5's and even recently an F5 in Heartbreaker. And this is coming from a lamb, I love her, but I'm not delusional. I know when she's lipping and when she's not and I don't get mad because I know she's putting on a performance and also needs to save her voice.
+Filotus seriously could not have said it better. I've gotta be one of the biggest lambs and i listen to mariah like my bible but this is just too obvious from 2:36 onward. NICE CATCH on the "YOU comin' back to me" gesture - she clearly thought it was a version where "you" lands on the high note ha

Every singers’ voice evolve, so does Mariah. She has to change certain things, the way she sings, some keys and notes here and there but she still sounds freaking AMAZING! Queen!
Instead of constantly worrying if mariah is lip syncing or not can y’all just listen to her incredible voice. Why is it that when other singers lip sync or have bad show everyone is just like “yeah whatever” but when mariah has like one moments where she cracks or lips everyone is like “she cant sing” or “she lost her voice except it”. Why do you all have to be so delusional yes she isnt in her prime anymore but she can still hit those notes and sing nicely. This preformance was amazing i dont know why everyone is concerned whether she lip synced the climax or not which in fact is probably live i think.
Has not been one of my fav Mariah songs , but now ...... It is . Fantastic stunning and heartfelt. You're an angel and a example of modern day classic. Thank you for these amazing new runs. Love from New Zealand
I am so so happy I found this video and especially this absolutely sublime version of a true and classic Mariah ballad (Westlife included or not - it’s such a classic nonetheless). Every singers’ voice evolve, so does Mariah. She has to change certain things, the way she sings, some keys and notes here and there but she still sounds freaking AMAZING! Queen!
Isso é maravilhoso!!!!! Como alguém não se arrepia com isso????!???
Rodrigo Berthone concordo com vc!!
Just beautiful!!!❤️ Gives me chills
Instead of constantly worrying if mariah is lip syncing or not can y’all just listen to her incredible voice. Why is it that when other singers lip sync or have bad show everyone is just like “yeah whatever” but when mariah has like one moments where she cracks or lips everyone is like “she cant sing” or “she lost her voice except it”. Why do you all have to be so delusional yes she isnt in her prime anymore but she can still hit those notes and sing nicely. This preformance was amazing i dont know why everyone is concerned whether she lip synced the climax or not which in fact is probably live i think.
What a beautiful mariah ❤ i really love this live performance and i love her aura here..❤✨
"and you coming back to me is against all o-o-ODDS" beautifully sung
This performance is simply beautiful. I enjoyed every second of it.

By far , the best live performance of this song for me!! Soooo good
I am so so happy I found this video and especially this absolutely sublime version of a true and classic Mariah ballad (Westlife included or not - it’s such a classic nonetheless). I love how she is still able to tell a whole story by slowly and still very intuitively lead us up to those key changes with such ease and class that before you know it you’re left breathless! Every single time. I actually can’t deal sometimes it’s just too good! 💕
Not to say anything about how her tone and belts sound so much richer and nuanced, I LOVE it.
