How One Giant Meat Warehouse Supplies Shake Shack And Top Steakhouses | Big Business
It’s impressive to see the CEO training the future butchers of his company. This is an exceptionally specialized skill and not many people can do this production style. It’s a testament to a great company.
Great comment mate.
Not even just training but literally helping them by working! I'm sure he's got business calls and stuff he has to tend to, but just stepping on the line to make sure everyone's doing a good job, and making sure he's available... If this isn't the definition of leadership, I don't know what is.
Probably someone had to show him where the cooler was located
I think anybody that has ever had a boss has to remember is that this documentary is from this guy's perspective. We don't actually know what happens, and I can guarantee he doesn't really do anything all day. The CEO can't be training somebody how to butcher, he definitely has a manager that's not getting any credit. He probably has an entire team of managers.
@@YourLordAnon What a cynic. Maybe you’ve never worked with these gifted people. I know my boss along with a select few cooks could run a butchering business, tomorrow. Companies can’t afford the expense of many managers that you don’t need. If you don’t know the business, then you should consider comments directed at software?
$270 mil per year and growing. This is what good ownership and management creates.
Growing populations helps for growth as well...
Let's just think a min about where all the money went by %
How much to the butcher's
And Republicans are trying to destroy his business.
@benbaer4697 actually no he literally moved out of NYC to New Jersey due to Bill DeBlasios policies he put into place. He also since several of his customers are restaurants in California he's been forced to comply with their regulations for certification to animal welfare standards. He literally has to keep the paperwork on how much square feet any beef sold in California before the cow was slaughtered how much room it had to walk in and lying on that paperwork is a 250k fine.
Why not show where they get the meat?
He must be the talent and discipline who runs $270 mil annual sale and still have time to go down his field every single day...and even make their butchers.
lol, it's probably his military expertise that gives him so much energy
@@joedell6594 exactly!
He's a military man
He doesn’t personally train the butchers. Don’t be naive.
Now THIS is an American family business!
"We Make Our Butchers " pretty much shows you that this man cares about inexperienced people of that community
And you can really tell he care about his product
It could also (and probably does) mean that he underpays people by hiring inexperienced workers and turning them into butchers as well.
he's hiring dirt cheap labor and training them to save money. don't kid yourself! LOL! they are not well rounded botchers they are being on-the-job trained to do very specific jobs they can't break down an entire cow. LOL.
@@imaxdigital7052
You’re watching too much cnn bro… I’m from Germany, so I couldn’t care less about the old fucks you guy are free to elect.
Back to the payment. In this economy it is impossible to underpay people, there are plenty of jobs. If you’ve no skills, it’s just normal to be payed less. After a while you can renegotiate the payment, in case you’re an asset to the company, every boss will gladly give you a raise. If not, you still have no skills most likely. You really need to reevaluate your mindset
@@u235u235u235 conversely, you could say he doesn't need to hire a well rounded butcher, because he'll be overpaying for all of that experience that won't be used at all in this facility. It's akin to hiring a race car driver to drive a school bus.
Good to see that a CEO/founder of a company still has an active role to this day. I hope Pat pays his employees good money for the great work they do. 😊
Weres the diversity

I work at Carbone in Dallas, we use Pat La Frieda steaks. The cuts are insane.
Do they come fresh or frozen?
I cut my own cuts 😂😂😂😂 on cruise ship
“If I don’t have time to make my own.” She knew she messed up right there haha! Home bought isn’t the same as homemade
Imagine if most CEO's were like Pat. Hands on doing every job and his employees love him for it. So do his customers~! I have always loved a good steak & now a days I prefer to cook my own with my own spices, but I will greatly appreciate the work of the butcher that cut our steaks. Shalom
That's why Republicans can't be business owners.
do you work for him?
@@user-ry2qs7xf9k I retired in 2003. Shalom
You're a muppet. His employees "love him" for appearing on camera? You're delusional.
@@politicsuncensored5617Is that a yes or no?
Now THIS is an American family business!. A hands-on CEO, if ever there was one. Truly impressive!.
I used to work for a company that serviced the walk in coolers with a filtration system that kept the meat fresher and absorbed moisture.
The smell that was in those coolers I will never forget it was like meat heaven. Unbelievable sweet heavenly smell.
Can’t help but to respect for the pride an integrity he has in his work. I use to be a butcher an after seeing this it makes me want to get back into that trait
Glad to see he takes pride in his work and wants to do it well!
Nice to see people still taking pride in there product 👍🏻
Where's the diversity
@@afropuertorican8022in Africa pal
Where product?
He didn't talk about profit or personal wealth. He talked about his employees, his customers, the quality of his products and family. That about says it all!
This is how more businesses need to be ran. College has its place but most business can be reated like trade schools. Get someone in on the bottom, build them up, and reward them accordingly. People want to work, they dont want to be taken advantage of.
Appreciate when a company takes time to train employee. His attention to detail and meticulous care for his business and employees, quite refreshing to see.
It’d only make sense for a company to train its own employees. Are they going to have a competitor company train employees?
He must be an excellent boss and business man!! treating his employees with respect and still working beside them!
Videos like this is why I love UA-cam
Didn't really think much about where we get our meat. Kudos to him,he's feeding America 💯
He's feeding high end snacks.
I think black people needs to start boycotting....deliberately made permanent consumers by everybody. Enough
OMG!!! He must be the person who love beef the most on the planet. Surely a great talented born in the right environment.
Not if he was in india
i fix and maintain all the food machinery and conveyers for multiple companies like this is Aus. Even all the machines before Pat get his meat...
Its awesome he showed us behind the scenes but there's much much bigger operations this this
True. They didn't show us much to be honest
@@muhelectionwasstolen7253 video implies this is a huge operation though, so I for one, find it interesting to hear that's just marketing & not true
I had a shake shack burger today. Very very good.
Shake shack lol
Okay. This just made me hungry. 😅

I love the attention to detail. Awesome
It's amazing how much employees respect you and stay working for you. When you come down and work next to them and talk to them every day, i would have never guessed that
Absolutely top man. Absolutely top company. Business with due respect all around. No doubt about it 😊😊😊
Excellence! I will definitely try their product next time in NY/NJ
That's just plain old good work Brother. Thanks from Philly
This company seems to be an awesome one to work for.
I mean, how often does a CEO work with line workers, and how often are the CEOs training those people? I'm in awe.
yeah, how often? probably not often, just for video.
@@sebastianconstantin5176 still awesome even if while not often, he still trains staff himself, I work in a meat company too but the owners only care about sales, we see their face less than once a week in the process area. But we also have to be realistic, a CEO time is worth more than just training and working together with staffs all the time, especially for a multi million dollars like this one.
It's not the CEOs job to work the line... same way it isn't the butchers job to report Financials to the press. Stay in your lane
Thanks for sharing your video.thats totally awesome business 😀 👍
I was training at a meat market in my town, and Pat LaFrieda is a LEGEND here in RI....I wish I could've learned more about butchering at that job (multiple surgeries made me lose it...I want to go back to butchering SO bad) and Hell, I would KILL to train under Pat! This video is awesome!!
Pat makes the best meat. I love grilling his cuts at home. Great prices and always good marbling!
marbling is unhealthy & gross imo!
I just recently had a shake shack burger. I was wondering why their burgers were so fresh tasting? Now I know why. Like the burger didn't taste processed like most fast food places.
I've been getting their ground beef for years. It's as good as the video makes it out to be
Just watching this I want to work here Pat seems like a really decent guy to work for
God bless pat and his family
Real interesting, good watch 👍🏻
Good managers always go to see, meet & get to know the employees themselves. Great & keep it up boss.
Three generations? Very impressive. Hope he has the next generation lined up.
Hard work pays off !!!!
The guy is a good boss man.
Holy shit. 250k lbs A NIGHT current production, with the ability to scale up to 1mil lbs. That’s an insane number
Stunning
I loved their TV show!!
wow Amazing such conned greatest business l loved so much....
Wow, amazing. Thanks.
Fascinating! I'm going to go and make a burger now!
a burger made from the dry aged tomahawks thawed then hand chopped into burger patties after buying from Pat Lafrieda Meat Purveyor no less! Good choice.
To all the people who are working in a family business.. just know you guys are blessed.. you get to work in a safe environment where you can be loyal and you don't get mistreated.
Pat has the plug!
This motivates me to be a master butcher
Very impressive!
i'm drooling just watching this 🤤
I'll never be able to afford such high quality meat like this, awesome video 👍
well that's a good thing for your health anyway. Fatty meat isn't good for you.
So funny seeing that that is the highest priced & most in demand in the US, in Australia, everyone wants lean, grass fed meat with no fat in or around it, cause we don't want to get fat or have heart attacks. We export any meat we produce that looks like the meat in this video, cause people here are barely willing to feed it to their dogs & certainly won't feed it to their human families
@@mehere8038🤡
I'm like 85% sure the store I work for buys his dry aged Ribeyes.
Check the boxes in the freezer
Watching from Kenya. Our cattle are all grass-fed. 👍🏽

once the sell out to private equity, the company will be screwed... sad but happens every time! GREEED
Impressive, would love to work in the factory as well as in the restaurant.
The minute I saw the title of this. I said it was Pat la Frida before they mentioned it. I pass by the company so many times driving to Jersey.
I saw this on an ad, watch the ad for like 3 minutes and I was like "bruh let me just click the actual video and watch it"
Happy I did lol
That morning rush to get across the Hudson is a pain in the butt. Jersey. We have the meats. 😂🤣
You can thank the farmers and ranchers,. The real heros!!!!

Wow, I've gotta try shake Shack if I ever get to go to NY, Also thank you for suppling meats to restaurants.
Also Thank you Mel for making all those burgers!
There are shake shacks across the country so you don’t have to just got to NYC for one!
They are over rated
no flavor
Idk but I think nation wide shake shack doesn't use grass fed beef anymore. The burgers are crap now.
Get the Smokeshack. You won't be disappointed.
That's a hardcore successful man right there. I'll stick to my little Fairmount though. I hope he quadruples it ALL!! 💯❤️
lol Pat was like dad you dont even know what i can do with these hands let me come back home and you watch me build upon your empire.
Who here remembers the TV show series that they had. Meat Men on The Food Network.
I remember watching Meat Men on Food Network and when an employee injured his hand on a blade Pat drove him personally to the hospital shows how much he loves his staff
Its beautiful
That is so cool, what a company
WOW!
Sadly, Pat's father forcing him to learn another skill is how many family businesses go under after a couple generations. It was nice to see him have the desire and want to return to what he grew up loving and doing with his father and grand-father on each side, cutting beef.
I also like the Luger style of serving the steak still sizzling to the customer. I like to eat hot food, not luke warm 'rested' stuff.
It's amazing how much time goes into producing food in this day and age.
Yeah, stupid boomers would just buy the cow alive.

I need this kind of job.
Awesome!
"As a former military guy" @1:52 in the video
He apparently spent "eight years in the reserves"...but no branch or rank is mentioned in a New York Mag profile.
"as a former military guy" , later in video: "his father didnt want him to put in the hours so he worked as broker for 9 moonths then come back in family business" :)))))
It's only reserves. One night a week.
This man ditching college and joining its family's business is the wisest decision in his life.
Pat DID refer to military training, so he may have done his two/four years or is in the Reserve or state militia.
He built it with room to expand 4x…baller
I used to drink res bull and operate the band saw, cut 1 ton lobsters for captain day on cruise ship
great story!!...peace out
Cool
Proper sanitation and storage must always be prioritized in circumstances like this. Typically, fast food chains aren't always aware of what the outcome may be from improper sanitation.
We all know how sanitation works
Yeah because meat is starting to rot the second you kill the animal. Much easier to just not eat dead animals
Captain obvious... Why say the obvious?
People with more than 3 working braincells detest the stupid comments...just being honest
Lmao 🤣 yes no kidding…ya think they survived a 100 years working in unsanitary conditions…
