Dragon Broodmother 2RRRG Creature - Dragon Flying At the beginning of each upkeep, create a 1/1 red and green Dragon creature token with flying and devour 2. (As the token enters the battlefield, you may sacrifice any number of creatures. It enters the battlefield with twice that many +1/+1 counters on it.) P/T: 4 / 4 Expansion: Alara Reborn You can thank me later
Sunderring growth has been a soul sisters sideboard staple for years lol, Its a disenchant with upside in that deck. Gotta respect soul sisters. Not tryna rip on you, just get defensive when one of my fav sideboard cards is called janky. Also, this deck was sweet and the games were entertaining, great vid
The only reason to use Disenchant over Sundering Growth in a tokens-matters NON-MONO-WHITE deck is because it's easier to cast Disenchant under a Blood Moon than it is to cast Sundering Growth. However, mono-colored decks don't really need to worry about Blood Moon, so that's not really a concern here.
That was me with the living end deck, pretty cool to be featured on stream, I only wish I had played better. Definitely check out Magicaids' channel if you want to see more of that deck (as well as other sweet brews).
I'm not against scooping when we are literally dead (I don't like forcing opponent's to go through combos in hopes that the misclick or things like that), but I'm trying to avoid scooping when we are like 99% dead, but there's still a 1% chance that something crazy happens and we win.
MTGGoldfish The issue I've had is that you seem to mentally give up when you're 99% dead and then you play in a way that throws away the 1% chance you have. When you're just going through the motions I can tell (your plays are unusually bad) and I'd rather you scoop If you're going to do that.
It's classified as one and is in the Dragon egg group, like Charizard. Besides, did you really want a rampaging Water/Dragon razing all kinds of battlefields with almost no weakness? :p
@MrTzoulhs If i may ask, what do you mean with no weakness? The only thing that i can remember about dragons in pokemon is that they're weak against Ice. And Gyarados being water makes him ok with ice iguess so what's left?
The game against izzet living end was from magic aids I think. I was really hoping he could surgical extraction him to see his transformational sideboard!
Actually he was at 11 (virtual 10), so it wouldn't kill the DS. However if he draws a land and then fetches for an untapped shock he would be at 8, meaning he could just win by attacking for exactly 5 dmg with the DS. So not exactly killing their DS, but just killing the opponent instead. :) You're probably mistaking the ability for Angrath's -3 (which sacrifices things with cmc 3 or less at eot).
Never got one in draft, but had a sarkhan dragonspeaker from a loose pack, and a Vraska from another one. My first two walkers ever. Later I had some in prerelease sealed pools multiple times, but never in draft.
MTGO bug 10/1/2005 Planeswalkers will enter the battlefield with double the normal amount of loyalty counters. However, if you activate an ability whose cost has you put loyalty counters on a planeswalker, the number you put on isn’t doubled. This is because those counters are put on as a cost, not as an effect. when you +1 its +2 thats not how it works
Ah, that makes sense. I thought that loyalty counters weren't supposed to double from activating loyalty abilities, but then I assumed that Magic Online is right and I was wrong.
Did the doubling season + planeswalker ability cost interaction get changed at some point? Or is this just another fancy MTGO bug? 10/1/2005 Planeswalkers will enter the battlefield with double the normal amount of loyalty counters. /However, if you activate an ability whose cost has you put loyalty counters on a planeswalker, the number you put on isn’t doubled. This is because those counters are put on as a cost, not as an effect/
Is Doubling Season bugged on MTGO? When Seth +1ed Sarkhan Unbroken after casting Doubling Season, his loyalty went from 5 to 7. I thought since adding or subtracting loyalty is a cost for a planeswalker ability and not an effect, it’s not affected by Doubling Season.
35:57 Why not block the Hawk so your opponent can't profitably play the other 3 Hawks in his hand due to Kolaghans second effect? I mean it wouldn't have mattered anyway, but still... :D
Doubling season putting 2 counters on when you tick up a planeswalker is a bug! Doubling season states that whenever an *effect* would put counters on it doubles, but planeswalker counters are part of the *cost*! Somebody that knows how to should report it xD
Hey Seth! @Saffronolive! If you want to know more about that sick deck with the As Foretold and the Living End, check out some of the recent videos of your fellow mtg youtuber, Magic Aids!
nickjoeb started when they changed planeswalkers to legendaries. No word on if it was intentional or not. Maybe because they were planeswalkers it was a cost , but it was somehow unlinked when they switched it to a legendary permanent. I mean honestly its just win more most of the time
My bad, Nick. That is indeed correct per the 2005 Gatherer ruling: Planeswalkers will enter the battlefield with double the normal amount of loyalty counters. However, if you activate an ability whose cost has you put loyalty counters on a planeswalker, the number you put on isn’t doubled. This is because those counters are put on as a cost, not as an effect. The judges I asked opined that this is probably indeed a bug.
Actually, In Garruk Tribal I like The Chain Veil better than Doubling Season, since The Chain Veil works when we Genesis Wave it into play with a bunch of Garruks and Doubling Season does not.
Seth, why did you abuse Doubling Season bug in match against affinity to get Sarkhan ultimate one turn sooner? This does not fit your character. You are usually so honorable and avoid exploiting bugs, and you do not even pick free wins by time against combos with lots off clicking such as Counters Company by making them play out their combo.
This deck just screams "I blew my budget on lands so here's a jank combo." Fun enough to watch but I am getting tired of watching Seth lose to his own mana.
Blubrom There's more to a mana base than getting the screw. He lost to Affinity because he failed to find a blue source; he drew lands instead of action about a billion times; a single Ghost Quarter took out half his mana and he needed to constantly play around the threat of it. I could avoid man screw 100% of the time by just playing 60 swamps but that's not winning games. Yes, there's always a chance of your mana supply being not what you need but we're inviting those problems in with open arms by playing such a greedy mana base just for the hope of a win-more combo.
Not sure. I'd imagine that it is at least supposed to be reminiscent of that, you know, a little tongue-in-cheek reference. No way he just meant "aids" as in the plural of "something which helps" without being aware of the acronym.
Was there a particular reason Seth was hellbent on never blocking with the Kitchen Finks? He had plenty of times he could have blocked and killed a Signal Pest, but even when he was ready to block he never used the Finks, even though that has a benefit for dying. Is there a method to the madness, or was Seth just punting like crazy?
Bird of Paradise @29:20: "I'm helping! Skraaw!"
That lil' Bird attacking alongside all those big dragons at 29:19 was kinda cute ^-^
BrewBrewBrewTheDeck that's what I was thinking! 😂😂😂
It's about sending a message!
The living end deck is from the other resident jank brewer, our boy, Magic Aids
Resident to where? That word doesn't really make sense in his context.
youtube
Transformative sideboards!!
Magic Aids is amazing.
Elijah M Thompson not only amazing but a great player too haha
Dragon Broodmother 2RRRG
Creature - Dragon
Flying
At the beginning of each upkeep, create a 1/1 red and green Dragon creature token with flying and devour 2. (As the token enters the battlefield, you may sacrifice any number of creatures. It enters the battlefield with twice that many +1/+1 counters on it.)
P/T:
4 / 4
Expansion:
Alara Reborn
You can thank me later
It's fun, but a bit slower than other cards.
Its 3RRRG not 6RRRG...
Lachlan Barling it’s actually 2 any color I had to double check my bad!
I luv the brood mother
Fun with dragon storm cards that trigger on etb
Can I thank you now?
Best Against the Odds in a while. Your enthusiasm makes the whole thing work. Great series!
so satisfying to see not jund killed by dark confidant
Greatness, at any cost
Sunderring growth has been a soul sisters sideboard staple for years lol, Its a disenchant with upside in that deck. Gotta respect soul sisters. Not tryna rip on you, just get defensive when one of my fav sideboard cards is called janky. Also, this deck was sweet and the games were entertaining, great vid
Yeah, if you are playing token makers and are mono-white Sundering Growth makes sense over Disenchant or something similar.
I've watched these at 2AM too many times, and now I can't help but fall asleep to Seth's voice.
"Let's bring in Surgical"
_brings in Anger of the Gods_
"I think we really just wanna Doubling Season => Sarkhan; I think that's our best bet in this matchup." -- SaffronOlive
The best part is that it actually happened
That was me with the living end deck, pretty cool to be featured on stream, I only wish I had played better. Definitely check out Magicaids' channel if you want to see more of that deck (as well as other sweet brews).
The UR living end deck is from Magic Aids. Check it out. Its a really really awesome deck. It goes from Living End to Discard Aggro.
Seeing the devour Dragon makes me think... There needs to be an Against The Odds featuring wurms, specifically Thromok.
19:55 pretty sure this is modern Seth, but you know, you do you, keep it up!
Nice Deck. By the way the Broodmate is a pair of twins who has the same parents.
1000th like 😎 but OMG Sarkhan the Mad and most of the others are my favorite planeswalkers ever, this is such a gem im glad you made this Seth :)
Did anyone else notice that doubling season was affecting the Sarkhan plus ability when it shouldnt at @4:53? Or did that rule change recently?
Brood Mate is the guy, that's why there's multiple. Brood Mother is the Queen. It's like Brood / Hive mentality.
Hahaha the thumbnail dragon fucking cracks me up! Great stuff as always Seth.
so much for not scooping early anymore
Atmapalazzo I'd rather him concede than give up
I'm not against scooping when we are literally dead (I don't like forcing opponent's to go through combos in hopes that the misclick or things like that), but I'm trying to avoid scooping when we are like 99% dead, but there's still a 1% chance that something crazy happens and we win.
MTGGoldfish The issue I've had is that you seem to mentally give up when you're 99% dead and then you play in a way that throws away the 1% chance you have. When you're just going through the motions I can tell (your plays are unusually bad) and I'd rather you scoop If you're going to do that.
Feels like doubling seasons is just a win more card. Can definitely be replaced for more interactive cards.
Hey Seth everyone has been all about dinosaurs in standard but I think you should look into a dinosaur deck for modern!
I just like that the planeswalker is called sarkhan 'UN'broken
@mtggoldfish That living end deck is Magic Aids transformative deck.
Thumbnail Gyarados isn't a dragon, though.
But it is.
Dragon type tho
It's classified as one and is in the Dragon egg group, like Charizard. Besides, did you really want a rampaging Water/Dragon razing all kinds of battlefields with almost no weakness? :p
@MrTzoulhs If i may ask, what do you mean with no weakness? The only thing that i can remember about dragons in pokemon is that they're weak against Ice. And Gyarados being water makes him ok with ice iguess so what's left?
@phatbastard0alkaline Dragon types are also weak against Dragon and Fairy type attacks.
That living end deck is from MagicAids
Redless Jund.... you mean Golgari?
No it’s redless jund because of its playstyle, it’s the decks name not the colour combo
the rock*
Nice deck with a lot of pieces for a 5 color edh dragon tribal deck :).
Sorin tribal with doubling season would actually be insane because a lot of them make tokens.
The game against izzet living end was from magic aids I think. I was really hoping he could surgical extraction him to see his transformational sideboard!
Oooomgg!!! THAT WAS AMAAZING!!! LOVE IT MUCH!
Instead of dying to that pridemate you could've just used Sarkhan, Dragonspeaker's deal 4 ability. It does have more than 1 loyalty ability.
You're not dead at 18:07 if they have nothing and you draw a land. You can kill their Shadow by Act of Treasoning it with Sarkhan Vol's -2.
You're probably mistaking the ability for Angrath's -3 (which sacrifices things with cmc 3 or less at eot).
Tomer: You fought in the Brew Wars?
Seth: Yes, I was once a Jank Knight the same as your father.
MTGGoldfish vs Magic Aids colab when?
What about bant counters, or bant tokens, with tamiyo and maybe the new Jace if it's the token route? With doubling season, of course.
Sarkhan was my first Planeswalker. Love it.
JonaxII only planeswalker ive ever opened in draft, then I went 1-2 and cried a little on the inside Lolz
Hey same here I got unbroken
Never got one in draft, but had a sarkhan dragonspeaker from a loose pack, and a Vraska from another one. My first two walkers ever. Later I had some in prerelease sealed pools multiple times, but never in draft.
29:20 the Birds of Paradise that was adopted by a horde of dragons.
Why is Doubling Season adding an extra counter on Sarkhan's +1 ability? The Gatherer states it would only affect PWs that are coming into play.
I'd love to see Vraska + Doubling Season. Her ult makes tokens...
Is Doubling Season glitched? at 4:46 Sarkhan's +1 added 2 counters...
yeah I believe that's a bug
No, doubling season makes it so that abilities add double counters
Its correct. Re-read doubling season. It doubles counters placed on anything. Including planeswalkers
That is what doubling season does...
That's incorrect. Doubling Season applies to effects, not costs. Putting Loyalty counters on a planeswalker to use its ability is a cost.
I thought that loyalty counters weren't supposed to double from activating loyalty abilities, but then I assumed that Magic Online is right and I was wrong.
you were right if you ever think MTGO is wrong look at the rules there is a lot of them and MTGO has so many bugs.
Yo Seth, is it perhaps possible in making a modern naya dinosaur deck!
Think the as-foretold deck was MagicAids version that has an aggro build in sideboard
Definitely the best against the odds in a while. Goes to show you don't need to play blood moon or solemnity everytime lol
swing for a casual 90 damage on turn 6? Sarkhan's Dragons, baby!
22:03 what the hell was that Seth? Lol
20 4/4s looks fun!
Pretty funny how Seth called GDS's plays in that game.
Brood mating is what makes the token ;)
35:57 Why not block the Hawk so your opponent can't profitably play the other 3 Hawks in his hand due to Kolaghans second effect? I mean it wouldn't have mattered anyway, but still... :D
Why no thundermaw hellkite in the board for obnoxious tokens?
Doubling season putting 2 counters on when you tick up a planeswalker is a bug! Doubling season states that whenever an *effect* would put counters on it doubles, but planeswalker counters are part of the *cost*! Somebody that knows how to should report it xD
What's janky about naturalize+ as a sideboard card?
Hey Seth! @Saffronolive! If you want to know more about that sick deck with the As Foretold and the Living End, check out some of the recent videos of your fellow mtg youtuber, Magic Aids!
2 months and doubling season is still bugged. what a joke of a company.
24:20 wait, when did the interaction between DS e PWs changed?
33:30 was the ultimate jank payoff
21:23 I feel some Magic Aids vibes...
the as foretold BAITS aehaeuaheau MAgic Aids doing his job right XD
mavric thopter.. thats spicey! bro youre playing sarhkan dragons lmao.
You sound like Jeff Anderson from "Clerks"
Well. When it works it's super silly! Perfect for AtA
Why does seth never make dragon tokens with sarkhan unbroken
pete123 because he loves to draw cards.
This is very true.
Would of perferred to see a R/U Storm deck that storms off but instead of shot I would of rather saw a Dragonstorm...This deck could of been better
32:19 can we play both? xD
"That be the game boys and girls"
Love it
Red-less Jund, probably better known as Golgari.
So you’re saying Doubling Season is good?
Loyalty abilities shouldn't add more counters with doubling season.
"Wah wah, Magic shouldn't have cards that can be abused, I only want to see fair decks!"
BrewBrewBrewTheDeck No I mean that isn't how the interaction actually works.
nickjoeb started when they changed planeswalkers to legendaries. No word on if it was intentional or not. Maybe because they were planeswalkers it was a cost , but it was somehow unlinked when they switched it to a legendary permanent. I mean honestly its just win more most of the time
John Blake Yeah it's not a big deal just saying since Seth didn't even notice it.
My bad, Nick. That is indeed correct per the 2005 Gatherer ruling:
Planeswalkers will enter the battlefield with double the normal amount of loyalty counters. However, if you activate an ability whose cost has you put loyalty counters on a planeswalker, the number you put on isn’t doubled. This is because those counters are put on as a cost, not as an effect.
The judges I asked opined that this is probably indeed a bug.
Arbor elf. Then utopia sprawl.
So Garruk Tribal would also use doubling season in a rerun?
Actually, In Garruk Tribal I like The Chain Veil better than Doubling Season, since The Chain Veil works when we Genesis Wave it into play with a bunch of Garruks and Doubling Season does not.
Seth, why did you abuse Doubling Season bug in match against affinity to get Sarkhan ultimate one turn sooner? This does not fit your character. You are usually so honorable and avoid exploiting bugs, and you do not even pick free wins by time against combos with lots off clicking such as Counters Company by making them play out their combo.
Honestly, I didn't realize I was abusing a bug, I just assumed that it was working properly and that it was supposed to double the counters.
I think Seth has CMS (chronic missplay syndrome)
How about nissa trible?
We haven't done Nissa yet, but I think we will eventually.
32:17 mission accomplished
hydra66 casually being dead on board into attacking hasty for 78 in the air ^^
"Run out the brood father. Broodmother? I guess it is since it's making a baby."
Did you just assume that dragons gender??
"...keep broodmating..." Words, to live by... ;)
19:58 : "in standard" Oh. Well I guess MOST of those cards in standard again. So it checks out.
Dragons!
DRAGONS
Kolagen is under rated
Kolagen? Do you mean Kollagen, the German spelling of collagen? How is that protein underrated :> ?
BrewBrewBrewTheDeck dragon Lord kolagen I can never spell it right
Why though? It's right there in the video :0
Kolagen isn't great when we draw it, but it's really important for the combo kill with Sarkhan Unbroken and Doubling Season.
MTGGoldfish I think a lot of people forget about his second ability
Seth said sarkhan and his dragons in standard lol
That thumbnail 🅱️oi
dragons fuck yeah
this is magic in its truest form, completely brewed
Scry is so broken
Definitely not standard !
2:45 Against the Odds: UA-cam Poop Edition
This deck just screams "I blew my budget on lands so here's a jank combo." Fun enough to watch but I am getting tired of watching Seth lose to his own mana.
Daniel Gehring hé didn't gent mana screw this one
Blubrom
There's more to a mana base than getting the screw. He lost to Affinity because he failed to find a blue source; he drew lands instead of action about a billion times; a single Ghost Quarter took out half his mana and he needed to constantly play around the threat of it. Yes, there's always a chance of your mana supply being not what you need but we're inviting those problems in with open arms by playing such a greedy mana base just for the hope of a win-more combo.
As soon as I seen that Death Showdow match up I just stopped watching.
Redless Jund aka. GB Rock
Magic aids anyone?!
More like Magic AIDS ;p
BrewBrewBrewTheDeck Honestly, is that what his name is supposed to be? It seems like that’s the intention!
Not sure. I'd imagine that it is at least supposed to be reminiscent of that, you know, a little tongue-in-cheek reference. No way he just meant "aids" as in the plural of "something which helps" without being aware of the acronym.
2ndish?
Was there a particular reason Seth was hellbent on never blocking with the Kitchen Finks? He had plenty of times he could have blocked and killed a Signal Pest, but even when he was ready to block he never used the Finks, even though that has a benefit for dying. Is there a method to the madness, or was Seth just punting like crazy?
AvatarOfDiablo I think he thought Signal Pest had flying for some reason -.- . Definitely punting a bit.
TranquilWyvern -Casual-
It essentially does though.
Have you never read the card?
not a punt Signal Pest can't be blocked except by creatures with flying or reach.
