Unboxing the Tamiya Mazda RX7 DriftSpec on the TT02D Chassis

- One of the greatest car movies of all time was 'The Fast and the Furious', the original movie in the franchise. Vin Diesel's character, Dom, was first introduced to us driving a red tricked out Mazda RX7 including Nitrous! Not only that, but like most of the cars in that movie, Dom's car had a really cool graphics package!
Well...it's time to build a movie car!!
In this video we will do an unboxing of the Tamiya Mazda RX7 TT-02D. The 'D' stands for DriftSpec so this car is also on Tamiya's TT02 Drift Chassis. I'm stoked to have this car in my hands because there are a number of included hop up items that I know you're going to enjoy.
As this is a DRIFTSPEC car, it drives differently and therefore requires certain 'hop-up' items in order for the car to perform properly. With Tamiya's TT02D chassis, Tamiya includes a number of hop-ups that you would normally have to purchase separately.
I believe all drift cars from Tamiya, including mine, include....
A full set of ball bearings
A Tamiya Aluminum Motor Heat Sink
A Sport-tuned Motor
Oil filled CVA shocks
But the Mazda RX7 also includes the LED light kit for front and rear tail lights! This light kit alone is worth about $80CDN so buying a drift car as your first TT02 chassis gives you a lot of hop-up items that would cost you a lot if you bought them all separately. So a drift kit is well worth the $$$.
So what about the decals to make this car truly look like Dom's RX7? Well...I've got this covered as well. On EBAY I found a guy that does 1/10th decal sheets specifically for Dom's Mazda RX7 so this car is going to be a true replica of the movie car!

Interesting kit. Just a set of normal tires and you've a cool car. Maybe the front suspension might be made for bigger steering angles. I'm really curious about this build. Please do a running video, too.
I think it will be an interesting kit. I like all the upgrades and I've been really wanting to put together a drift kit as I'm really wanting to try out driving one. The steering will be interesting to see too...not sure whether it's been altered for drifting or been left as just the basic TT02 setup. However...YES...I will do some running videos of this...I even have scale traffic cones that I plan on shooting some video with for this. First the build then the running videos!!
Very cool Like the Drifter kit. I'm actually turning mine into a drifter too.. and a Mazda no less sweet Fred going to enjoy the fun..

A good more packed in there than the normal TT02 kits. The body is really going to look sick with all those extra detail pieces!
It’s true which is definitely a nice touch. I’ll be very curious to see how this performs vs a true drift RC. I’ve definitely got some running videos planned for testing it out. But I’ve also decided to add a few more upgrades during the build as they seem to make sense for a car like this. More on that soon! And I just finished cutting out the body so I agree with you 100% :) Thanks Addam…and congrats on hitting 5,000 subs!!! Amazing!! It won’t be long before you’re at 10,000 believe you me!

Mine didn’t come with the lights or speed controller
Bummer...I don't know how it works exactly but depending on where you are in the world, and what supplier the hobby store uses, items that are supposed to come with the kits aren't there! In Canada, you really have to watch out for this at some of the big online hobby stores as most don't even come with the ESC's these days.
