if you are starting to play don't start by songs first learn the basics and then after mastering them do songs and else you like
and position you're right hand thumb below the fretboard

Also do it over youtube backing tracks in the key your running scales in.
Fretboard stickers/note map helps see where all the notes are and how they are connected aswel.
