Steve Arrington Is The Greatest Off Key Funk Rocker Ever! His Sound Is Tailored Made For What He Does. When He Sings "Steal Your Heart Away". It's Pop Funk Magical. With Starlena Young, Curt Jones And Steve Arrington, They Were The First Of Their Kind. Slave, Next Level.
Sometimes I let younger people sit in my car and play the history of Slave; from the first album all the way through Curt and Starleana joining the group. Steve Washington branching out. The unsung roles that Danny and Floyd played. Of course " hall of fame and Steve's gospel albums. But my biggest hero of Slave; Steve Arrington. I've been spreading the word of Steve and Slave for years.
This bro can really sing and write outstanding lyrics. He's been gifted with natural talent the kind of talent God bless him with. This brother could joined any funk group and rise their level at least 30% in sales given the chance. Thumbs up or thumbs down.
I remember the time I heard "$lide" on the radio! I knew from that moment on, i was gonna do something with music. That BASSLINE, & LEAD GUITAR $OLO! Maaaaaaaayne!!!! Love me some SLAVE, AURRA & the entire SLV family. All musicians & vocalists we're EXCELLENT!...RIP MARK & DRAK⚘⚘
I always found it amazing that none of the Dayton Funk Acts had similar Vibes. Slave had a Slap Bass driven feel with predominantly 4 on the floor Drum grooves!
A big thank you to Scott Goldfine for his fab show and book, everything’s on the one. Yes Slave were fantastic . Their albums stone jam and showtime were absolutely magnificent. World class funk album. Steve Arrington Danny Webster and mark Adams are funk royalty. Slave were so underrated and under played on the radio. Mark Adams was a tremendous class act. In my opinion mark Adams was the best funk bassist of all time.Imagine he was found Murdered with his skull crushed in , dead laying in a park in the rain. If only his case could be reopened ,his killers got away with it. He got attacked three times in one day and guess what no witnesses. Life for some can be so unfair.
First of all what a great forum this is on funk can’t wait to see the funk museum in Dayton Ohio. Steve Arrington, I thought he was with slave from the beginning. It’s nice to know the real story, Steve Arrington is one talented brother and then when he went on his own Steve Arrington‘s Hall of Fame my boys and me wore that our mouth of course all the slave albums were worn out as a bass player that’s what I did. When slide came out the DJ in our area played at once he got tired of playing that song over and over again people kept calling In. it was a new sound in which no one knew where it came from it was just so funky.
Mark Adams was one of the most skilled and dynamic bassists in history and had his own sound and style which has never been duplicated!!!!!! Steve's vocal style was original and distinctive and the guitarists were some of the best at their craft and played some of the best solos I've ever heard! R.I.P. Slave and Pleasure were two of my favorite Funk bands ever!!! V.I.P. Records back in the day-yessir!!! At his concerts, George Duke would always introduce Shelia E as the baddest female percussionist in the world!!! He was right!
Steve Arrington and Floyd Miller ought to team up with a music biographer and tell the SLAVE story "chapter and verse". I think the fans are waiting for CLOSURE on the group.
Oh no sugar mama baby is still on my mind and I cannot find this album on cd! I absolutely love your music so much and I’m the only person i know that knows you because my friends don’t like this style. It’s unfortunate.
I know everyone like their regular hits(so do I), but Slave has a song called "Smokin", my absolute favorite!! I love watching my girl dance when we dance to it! It has "A Touch of Love" feel but a more party type song. Play it thru!!
im watching Steve and I started to see theo from the Cosby show! Malcom jamal does play bass. Steve voice is unigue and to me! stamped slave in my brain forever! Another drummer in the background becomes the front man,, can you say LTD , JEFFERY OSBOURE, etc.
I get so tired watching these videos of artist after artist, group after group or musician after musician sit and explain how records they contributed to that sold millions of records and albums not get or be compensated for it. You look up the publishing companies because that's who controls the money and you can hardly figure out who owns them. It's like a shell game. The record labels and the like collude with the manager and one point person in the group they deal with (Steve Washington), pay them some money and leave it up to him to explain why the rest of them are not seeing any money. After while you get tired of the bs and leave. Most of them have writing credits so tell me again why they weren't being paid. It's sad. I see Steve Arringtons name is on most of these records, i wonder if he was jerked like the rest of them. George Clinton did the same to P-Funk artist some of which were founding members of the group. How life long supposed friends could do that to others is beyond me but i guess it's really all about the money. Toni Tony Tone, Cameo. They all suffered the same fate. It takes the fun out of it for me. And there is money to be had. Just look at all the commercials and other media that make use of these songs. Sad!

The roles Danny and Floyd played cannot and should not ever be understated.
I have to say Drac! One of the most iconic guitar solos (Slide) in MUSIC history.

I'm loving this
2020, after James Brown, Sly Stone, the beast on the corner was Ohio Players, but I am a Slave-Mark Adams, Aurra, Steve Arrington fan, unique funk.
Good video. Thank you.

21:00 Just listen to Sugarfoot’s guitar solo on "Jive Turkey" and "Angel " his guitar work takes it back to the roots of Jazz and Blues.
I know everyone like their regular hits(so do I), but Slave has a song called "Smokin", my absolute favorite!! I love watching my girl dance when we dance to it! It has "A Touch of Love" feel but a more party type song. Play it thru!!
That is a jam, no doubt!
The development of Steve Arrington. Amazing history!!!
He forgot one of Steve's best talents. He's also a pretty good vocalist as well.
