Possibly the last midnight chimes of Big Ben for some time?

- From 12.01pm on the 21st of August 2017, Big Ben will become silent whilst crucial restoration work is carried out on the clock mechanism and building. Unless the House of Lords intervenes to change this (which apparently they are trying to do), the world famous bell is not expected to strike again - except on Remembrance Sunday and New Year's Eve - until 2021. As a Londoner born and bred, I'm going to miss hearing this old timer.
BTW - the flood lights on the Houses of Parliament are switched off overnight moments after Big Ben has finished striking at midnight, hence why the Queen Elizabeth tower appears to be plunged into darkness right at the end of this film x - Розваги
and now that restoration is finished, big ben is officially back! first midnight chimes of big ben since the restoration will DEFINITELY be tonight

I came to this video from your one about the Third Man, which I watched after the opening credits of the film, which feature the London Films logo with - Big Ben's chimes. Full circle! Despite living almost as far away as it is possible to go from Big Ben without leaving the UK (Lerwick, i.e. 30 or 40 miles from Muckle Flugga), I'm rather fond of the Westminster chimes and think it a shame that they are being silenced. It's rather like the ravens leaving the Tower or the Barbary Apes leaving Gibraltar!
Being a proud Londoner, I totally agree with you about Big Ben, but thankfully the silence is not permanent. Four years does seem to be a long time to wait for the bongs to return regularly though. But, having seen all the scaffolding around the Elizabeth Tower at the moment, I think it will take at least a year just to take it all down again. I've never seen so much scaffolding around one building before. It will be interesting to see, or rather hear, whether it muffles the bongs on New Year's Eve when the bell will be allowed the bong again for the occasion.
BTW, not wanting to peddle my wares, but I also have a video about Gibraltar and the apes if your truly want to complete that coincidence circle (hawh hawh!) x

Ironically that day there was a solar eclipse in the USA that day, and anyone in the path had that happen.
How can you sleep at night? It’s so loud!
Well, not at the moment as it has been put on silent whilst maintenence work is being carried out on the building, so I sleep very soundly indeed! It chimes only on Remembrance Sunday in November and New Year's Eve at present, but should chime again hourly from 2021 x

NO THE MIDDAY CHIMES ARE THE FINAL ONES
Indeed, the final chimes were exactly twelve hours later, but I wanted to capture the last midnight ones. The clock is so beautiful lit up at night and I'm going to miss enjoying this sight whilst the chimes ring out x
The Lady Travels the reason Big Ben is being repaired is because it’s SOOOO old! It’s been in London since 1859.
Indeed it is old, and it's certainly due a thorough service to keep it going for decades to come x
@@Theladytravels The top of big ben is now exposed. My theory? They are done with the renovating and they are taking the scaffolding off.

At long last, Big Ben will start chiming annually again from this Sunday, 13th November (2022). I cannot wait!
