I love the design overall. However, I would have at least added floating shelves in the kitchen on the tiled wall to match the oven hood.
I would rather have more upper cabinets in my kitchen.
Yeah no place for dishes in this kitchen now. Design fail in my opinion. Kitchen looks naked.
I agree. I love upper cabinets that are easy to reach from the dishwasher to put the dishes away.
No upper cabinets screams budget reno. Big mistake in my opinion. ❤️
R u kidding, no uppers is not enough storage, especially for a full family.
No upper cabinets in the main part of the kitchen is what you are now seeing in custom very high-end kitchens by top designers. In this type of arrangement where it is designed new (not necessarily a remodel), a whole wall is fitted with floor to ceiling cabinets that also may incorporate a refrigerator concealed by similar paneled doors. In addition, a smaller room called a Butler's Pantry is included, and this room has additional storage. The main kitchen being open is treated more as a living space, with artwork and open shelves on the walls where the upper cabinets used to be. Some Butler's pantries are like in fact another (smaller) kitchen, and has a station for coffee. Other trends include more colorful kitchens, especially on the lower cabinets painted in navy, or dark green, or even pink, or very dark pigmented yellow.
I would add cabinets back and perhaps an island. It's not enough storage.
Beautifully done! 👏👏 A bed in front of a window is just the worst decor mistake you can make.
I disagree. Sometimes it is the only place that it makes sense.
Agree . It's really bad Deng shui.
Totally! Cold air drifting down on the sleeper in winter, not to mention blocking natural light which there is never enough of.
After a clue months the design will not outweigh the lack of storage. For those of us who a really cool and use many items to cook with we need storage.
"After a clue months. . ." Now does "a clue" fall between November and December? I'm asking for a friend.
Considering that they lost the pantry, they really need the storage space of the upper cabinets.
There is space for a small built in Island with storage underneath. Or they should have kept the peninsula in the design;
where is the island in the kitchen? I would rather have more upper cabinets.
Yep. Could have a square custom Ireland with drawers to store pots and pans. But they might not have enough money. Selling anyways.
With all that work in tow-- NOONE was complaining. An island can be added-- easily. A
I bet the new buyer added an island. I was shocked they missed that opportunity. When the owner said the kitchen is a gathering place, that was funny since there's literally NO PLACE to gather in there. Needs the island.
Clicked on comments to call out the missing kitchen Island and already covered!
This show is on my short HGTV favorites list. Along with Love it Or List it, Bargain Block (they have unpredictable design ideas), No Demo Reno and Million dollar winner house. :)
More cabinets I would need
Looks SO much prettier! NOt surprised it sold quickly! That kitchen was the best!
For those of you who are worried about not enough kitchen cabinets, the reality is that most people don't really cook as much anymore. Even so, you could easily add an island with lots of cabinets below. It sold in 4 days, over asking price...so it was enough cabinets for someone!
As with any house it only takes 1 buyer
That is exactly right.
I love this show. The owners don’t have to put any money in on the renovation but can still make a bit of profit. Hell I’ll settle for 100 bucks as long as I don’t have to pay for anything 😂
Maybe this was a budget issue but I would have built a bench against the dining wall to move table inches over to accommodate a kitchen island running the length of kitchen to compensate for the lost upper cabinets and give ample counter space but love the open concept and entry change, well done!
Banquette. Good idea.
The cabinets were in good condition and should have been taken down and donated. Not enough upper cabinets, especially with a family purchasing. I would want more uppers in addition.
Or even painted.
There's a whole wall in the dining area where cabinets could be added.
Those look like mine and they are basically nice looking junk.
Looked like some were being carefully removed so likely repurposed.
Somehow the living area feels smaller. The fireplace was merely a change than improvement regarding styling. Kitchen feels odd. The 'sectional' sofa in the downstairs looks odd on closer inspection. Too gimmicky for my taste.
The nice change was the bannister, sort of.
Not enough cabinet space in the kitchen! That's a big no-no!
Uppers take away visual space, i get that, but also actual space to store plates, cups. I hate bending down, much prefer things at my head level. Even if space seems smaller. Ppl are crazy.
Just paint em lighter, if u dont like dark, but dont get rid of em. They looked nice. I like wood, although that was a lot of wood.
The design is lovely but the kitchen definitely needs more storage.
Yes, new owners could put in a larger island with storage below.
@@steveraglin7607 Agree!
This style of house is technically called "split entry" because there is really only an upstairs and a downstairs (2 floors), divided by an entry level. A true split level will have a main floor that is actually split level, via a step up or a step down, and the kitchen is usually at ground level. One unique feature of the split-entry house is that the kitchen is always on the upper level, which, if there's a view, can be a plus.
We lived in one of this style of homes in Illinois and there everyone called it a split foyer
I am so glad to be seeing your whole program. Thank you.
Never understood why you would block out a lot of natural light by positioning the bed in front if the window. A very bad habit, indeed.
I think the kitchen could have had like floating shelves AT LEAST?
I thought the same thing. But new owners could easily add that
I would have done a bigger kitchen island and added some storage underneath. But, still very nice job.
It looks beautiful, but no way would I want no upper cabinets in the kitchen.
There is not enough storage in the kitchen. The rest is beautiful.
The banister looks like a safety hazard for small children.
I would put up open shelving to match the hood vent...a nice size island with some storage, but I get that it would add to the reno price and not necessary for a sale...clearly. Nice job ladies.
Not enough kitchen storage. Where do you put the food? The big pots? Dishes?
Beautiful!
I love the shape of the tiles
I hate the geometric wood piece above the fireplace. And I don't know what in the world they were thinking by not putting upper cabinets up. I do a lot of cooking and baking, need more storage for that along with space to put your food.
I would need A LOT more cabinets. But, I cook and entertain....and love dishes
I do love the design but cannot believe you took out so many kitchen cabinets and did not replace them...Very disappointed. Made it beautiful but not functional!
I think they should have used some of the owners furniture downstairs, used the budget a bit better and put in an island bench in the kitchen for extra storage there was definitely enough room and it looked like a cheap option was used.
Did anyone else think the guy in this couple was the son? The remodel was really good.
Were the bathrooms not updated! Or did I miss something?
I totally agree. Getting rid of upper cabinets and sacrificing storage is kinda stupid. I am not sure why young buyers do not have long term foresight. They are not going to accumulate any less stuff as their family grows. Bit the twins do great work
My first home was a split level and that was the only split level I ever bought, all my other houses that I have bought have been ramblers, split levels are usually cheaper to buy because of the floor plan
LOve the fireplace treatment.
Transformation is great except the kitchen there’s not much of storage.
Something is missing in the kitchen and I would have enlarge the front exterior stairs for an easier and modern access.
They had the vision to completely transform the living space into a magazine cover-worthy design, and that's what sells. The open rail is the single biggest contributor to the new look. The downstairs is superbly staged.
Def would add open shelving in kitchen
Switch the sons bedroom furniture with master- master will look bigger with less/smaller furniture.
I hate split level houses.
You have to walk up a set of stairs to get to the front door. Then you have to walk upstairs or downstairs to get where you want to go in the house.
The staircase railing is beautiful but dangerous for a family with children.
I like kitchen as is-- no open concept
function over pretty however more cabinets doesn't mean more function. it's all about how to you plan the use.
Amazing reno like always. In other subject, does is he her son or her husband? Whatever he is my type 😍
Sellable!
What's wrong with a split-level house? Better than always having to go up and down a full flight of stairs. (edit): Just realized it is a split-entry as well as a split-level. I do personally dislike a split-entry quite a lot.
Exactly why do they split the profits with the home owners?
To get paid
I would like to see the bathrooms
Should have upper cabinets.
Why not just paint cabinets and put on new counter top
So well done!
Not fond of the kitchen but liked the other rooms
Am I reading this correctly? The two designers put in a ton of work and they earned $15k, $7500 apiece? Does that seem low?
I would think they also get a paycheck for doing this for the show.
They probably have 10 other houses they're doing.
@Wendy Cromwell The numbers are discussed at 4.33. With the higher selling price of $440,000, each couple receives $15,000 profit - instead of the anticipated $10,000 each. The more of these episodes you watch, the more questions you have! I guess the sisters are providing fairly paid work for their contractors.
@@Violet316 Plus a huge commission for selling the home at a higher price.
@@angelabacker1177 No doubt.
Great to job
There are not enough cabinets. They should have gotten "creative" providing more storage.
I would have liked to have seen a more unique outside stairway to the entrance of the home.
Storage storage storage.
Can L & L plz come do my home?
Bathrooms?
Hold up! Idk if it's arrogance or absurdity. This couple wants to sell their split level home, but thought, "Hey. Let's rip up 2 bedrooms first, then put the house up for sale."
You girls "ROCK"
Orientated .... not a word.... oriented is proper.
It is a word in British and Canadian English.
VW 😍
The open concept was taken too far upstairs, and why was nothing done to the exterior? That house is fugly!
You did a beautiful job on updating an out-of-style home.
Please leave out the music. It's not necessary and is very annoying.
Those two are sooo irritating. Please get another show in its place (I'm not the only one feeling this way!)
More HGTV gold and teal decorating. Very HGTV predictable decor.
Why are there no upper cabinets or floating shelves?? Big turn off lost a pantry and then no uppers
Lol! The woman is obviously mad and doesn't have time for silly questions!
I have serious problems with these two women
THEY CUT CORNERS WAY TOO MUCH.
They paint over thread bare floors , that in reality should be replaced .
Ive seen them lay cheap laminate floors over hardwoods , because they were too cheap to matchup the hardwoods .
They also put in entry level appliances . Real Garbage .
You ladies talk MORE than you work! 🤦🏻♀️
No property is unsellable, the only obstacle is the price! Ask top dollar for an old outdated unmodernised property and of course it won't sell! As for the "after" typical designer foul ups, the open banister is lethal were there ever a toddler there, the colour schemes are dreadful, I mean dark brown, grey, blue yellow beige, it's like a bilious attack, I have only ever seen such a mish mash of non complimentary colours when so called designers are involved, I'm sure they they must have a degree in poor colour schemes or they themselves are totally colour blind! And old fashioned dark brown wood, in a modernised home, my gosh a Victorian throwback.
Nope.
I take storage over esthetics.
The knick nacks are awful
Take this show off air.. it sux . No body watches it anyway.
