I am from Masca. I would like to thank for this video, showing Jay's last steps. It is tragic, it should never have happened. I know well the territory, I am a hiker, the boy was completely disorientated, I am still regretting his destiny. Masca Valley ends at the point view with the coffee shop. You have entered, following Jay, the next ravine, el barranco de Juan López, abandoned many years ago. I will never forget him. Thank you for your walk.

  • @michael5780
    @michael5780 Місяць тому +6

Many thanks for this video it really shows how difficult it is to search there.
I visited Masca for the first time almost 40 years ago. Then just like now, I don't understand how people can choose to settle there. How did they support themselves and what did they live on, one might askThe village is more than 1000 years old and was founded by the indigenous guanche population. The tour guide described it as the forgotten village which makes sense. it was very difficult to get to and from there and many people living even close by did not know the village. Tourism and better roads changed that. Masca looks very much like the valleys do on the neighboring island of La Gomera.
In La Gomera there are no roads along the coast. Instead, you have to go up a bit and then go down into the various valleys. They use terraces to be able to grow, just like they seem to do in some places in Masca. I'm afraid we never may find Jay considering even dogs find it hard to move around in this terrain. Goats seem to manage better. I pray for Jay and his family.

if i was pissed up, didnt know where i was .. even after a drink, i would stick to a main road, and hope it led somewhere .. if jay had walked to the end of the path, reached a dead end,as you did, you would assume he would walk back ..
if he walked for 30 mins, and thats where the last mobile ping was, that gives you a rough idea / radius of the last phone ping, but possibly not where jay was or is ..
he could have walked, battery died, but then walked for another 2 hours after .. if that occured, he literally could be anywhere, in any direction .. some are saying he had a full battery, before he set out 30 mins prior??
what if his phone was disposed of, but jay was never there? .. it would be impossible to cover that area with a metal detector ..
i find it hard to believe that anyone drunk, dressed in flimsy shorts and t shirt, would attempt to navigate through that landscape ..
the only time i could imagine a person going off-road,in that enviroment, is if they needed a piss, in which case they would get back on the main road,or if they were being chased, or trying to get away or avoid someone .. those cactus's / plants i imagine would tear your legs apart .. jay apparently said he cut his leg on a cactus, hard to know how true this is, or whether it is to deflect people away from what actually happened?
i still think something happened at the airbnb, and find it hard to believe the statements so far .. either they all lying, and not telling us the full truth, or the public are not being told the full truth as not to jeopordize the case .. or maybe a bit of both ..
at present, there are too many inconsistencies,if they were all telling the truth, there would only be one version of events .. not 3 ..

Given the location of that last ping, I’ve given some credibility to the possibility that Jays phone and himself is likely have parted ways. If this theory is correct then it is entirely possible that Jays phone is still on the ground somewhere in the brush there. It is worth considering to find a safe way to make a more thorough search for his phone. I want to illiterate here I’m not trying to peddle any theory of a kidnapping or speculating the phone was thrown, there is still a possibility the phone was dropped. Either way the potential of the phone lying on the ground somewhere around there, is worth looking into. ❤

IF HE EVER LEFT THE BNB IN THE FIRST PLACE THAT IS without delving into the dark theories flying about .
One thing is for sure that boy never left masca on foot definatliy not after seeing this video ,hopefully now UK and interpol will look into it after seeing this what with the family saying they need their help to ,,a very informative video thank you for keeping him in the limelight and raising awareness of the dangers abroad not just with predators but the difference in legal systems /authorities handling of such may justice be found for him and all others missing 🪬🧿

Great video Paul!👏🏼 It really puts into perspective fully what the environment out there & even someone fit like you(with mountain climbing experience)feel how difficult it is, so Jay the morning after a rave, and just wearing shorts & t shirts, would of found it extremely hard.
Sorry Pedro can’t let you stay on, as that had been at least one weight off your mind, but hope you manage to secure somewhere such as the B & B.
You have really been a real trooper out there Paul💪🏼, so please don’t think we all don’t see the hard work you are putting in, its just the trolls with nothing better to do than criticise, when they likely have done absolutely nothing to help. They are actually detrimental , as it helps to have people boosting your moral, and thanking you, as you have spent weeks on this, purely to help a fellow Brit be found.
One thing I wanted to say though is please keep your wits about you, more so now, as if this was something nefarious & you one of the only few still searching it could be that you are a target, because if he has been taken, they won’t want him found. Considering the police crew left you on your own that day too, I would make sure you are wary of even the nicest ‘seeming’ people as they could be either media or people with intent on stopping you. Said a prayer for you for safety🙏🏼 Keep up the great work but please take rest too💙👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

He would of took a shortcut to that path after coming off the phone to Brad. After the lady drove past him.. He walked to the end of the path then towards coast, then went north, in the direction he thought los cristianos was. Had he of went south he would of seen civilisation. Look at sheds and caves. Most likely would of survived until the first night were he would die of hypothermia or organ failure. Probably close to the coast, all he trying to do is get off the mountains he has no idea of the scale… 50% chance foul play because people are lieing and giving false accounts instead of being transparent and helping the investigation which indicates foul play. Hopefully your not wasting your time out there.

I agree with this analysis. He's heading for the coast and doing his best to get 'off the hill'. Temp that day were low 20's - he's pushed on past the end of the path and heading for the coast. If possible start at the coast and work back inland. Good work Paul. Stay safe.

Well done to you for spending so many hours, days searching thru' this terrain, what a nightmare of a place to have to work your way through. How this body has been found at all (even if it isn't his) is mind blowing given how all this area appears to be, it does appear to have been in an area that seems to be off one of those huge ridges. I hope to god this will be a warning to anyone, whatever age you are, to not venture anywhere alone when in a country you're not from - for a million reasons! Also, don't leave your accomodation before fully charging your phone!!! Well done Paul, I hope you go take some time to relax now, as do all the searchers.

I think the witness is fake,, paid money to lie or being the Airbnb owner is connected to Lucy and is lying about seeing Jay, but even if he was there and went walking and was scared of the lads, surely he could of found a road eventually and flagged a car down it's not Alaska

Phone pinged, continued walking got to the end where this guy stopped recording, was to tired to walk back up so continued to cut across heading down towards the sea. I think he's in the terrain n they've not found him or fallen in the sea.

Thanks, Paul. this is a very good (edit: it's excellent) video - very informative. It's a trek and a half just on the road. Add no drink and thirst to that... I didn't know there was a cafe up at the viewing point, though. No one else had mentioned that viewing point cafe / shop before. What time does that cafe at the view point open for business? Surely he'd have got a drink / supplies from there. Plus, it would be a good rendezvous place to meet someone at, or to get a lift off someone from. Although, of course, his phone pings suggest he went on further from there. Where would he be aiming for / going to if he went that way from the viewing point?

First We're told he didn't wait for the bus which was less than a two hour wait. Now we are expected to believe that he wouldn't have waited less than an hour for that cafe / tourist shop to open... Is there a public toilet there - probably. He'd at least have been able to drink from the tap. He may have had or found an empty plastic container to top up and take away with him. "He wasn't (isn't) a stupid boy" after all. And no one did say that he was or is a stupid boy. It gets more and more ridiculous.

I'm a searcher, and with an area that big generally a high def drone is used and it records the entire location. The drone/camera has Long/Lat capabilities. The data is downloaded and teams sit and examine the footage via the computer. Programs are used with that data that can pick out a particular color and mark the frame/area/gps so teams can go to that exact area to check it out. It is commendable what you are doing, but viewing all this shaky camera footage isn't doing the missing person any favors, and it quite honestly sensless & maddening.
