    Wow, so much information! Fabulous deep dive into glazing. I was fascinated by the affects on the yak blend; some gorgeous tones there.

      The yak blend absolutely blew my mind. I wish I had full skeins of this base on hand right now

    Such a fantastic colorway! While the colors were chosen for their ability to glaze, they all look amazing together and mix very nicely.

      I really need to try glazing with some other colors. And maybe there are colors that won't work great, but with a blend maybe it would give something cool (and somewhere between what a fluorescent + navy would do, for example.)

      Thank you! I think the sourcing of the fibers makes a difference, too. I think Krypton (the 3 ply) has a different source where platinum (4 ply) and titanium(2 ply) have the same source for the fibers.

    I received my yarn from you today. The colorways are beautiful, thank you so much. ❤
    I have been trying some dyeing with koolaid and food coloring, and your videos have been so helpful!! I find the process very fun and interesting.

    I absolutely loved this video and the results.🥰🥳 As a handspinner I’d love to see you fiber out how to glaze none superwash handspun yarn using different breeds.

      Ooooo, that would be interesting. I think glazing non-superwash yarn is something I need to try for sure. I imagine if the handspun had thicker plys it might be easier to glaze.
      I had some handspun I made with one ply superwash and the other ply non-superwash. I don't have any more of that, but it would be SO FUN to glaze that!

    Oh, I have definitely seen than apricot colour when dyeing with navy. My dyes are ProChem and I thought I had a bad batch or something. I can't get a solid navy... ever. Even when kettle dyeing it comes out pale apricot with a blotchy grey glaze. The more heat and acid I add, the worse it gets. I have it on my list to test out temperatures and ph to see how it affects dyeing with navy, but I'm a "little of this, little of that" type of dyer and getting all scientific is not appealing to me, lol!

      THere was once I had a blue (blued steel?) give me some rust colored streaks on yarn, but I had a blend of things so I wasn't 100% sure what caused it. I'm not sure if I've quite seen this with the navy before.

    I wonder if you could glaze black-light blue over a deeper blue hue and get a more vibrant blue base with the colorless fluorescent molecule over the top. Would the deeper blue somehow nullify the fluorescent molecule even after it has been heat set?

    • @ChemKnitsTutorials
      @ChemKnitsTutorials  Місяць тому

      Sometimes you can seefluorescence through a glaze, but it is usually reduced. The blacklight blue glow is all about the ratio of the colorless fluorescent acid dye to the blue dye, so adding it on top won't make it glow more, because you're still seeing the color there.

    Navy definitively has some orange in it, I’ve seen navy colored items stain things orange and leak orange when wet a few times. It makes sense from a color theory point of view (I was an art major, which required taking color theory.) Navy isn’t a pure bright blue, it’s a very dark broken blue. I mean broken as not a pure hue, not in the dying sense. In the hue sense, you break a color by adding a little of it’s complimentary color to it, making a it a bit muddy. For your purposes, it’s probably better to stick to calling those colors muddied, instead of broken, since it would get confusing with how dyes break.
    If you wanted to blend your own navy, you would start with a very dark blue, maybe midnight blue thinking of dyes you use regularly, and add orange to it. Off hand, I would think about 3 parts dark blue to 1 part orange would probably get you to something pretty close to most commercial navies. I can’t recall if that has ever been in a dyepot weekly. I just feel like with the number of times you’ve done triangles, you probably created a navy in one.

      I've come close to a navy like color. I would love to take a color theory class someday! I think I'm eligable to take classes at a few local colleges/universities based on my alumni status or family status (my spouse is a professor.)

    I know it's not the right hues but I saw pink purple and blue and my brain went: "oh hey that's the bi flag"
