  • In this video I walk you through our orchard in Indiana and show you the trees we have been planting for the past 7 years. These trees include several varieties of the following: apple, cherry, fig, pear, peach, almond, hazelnut, plum, and pecan. We also have several walnut and pawpaw trees in our forest as well as 2, ~30 feet tall cold hardy kiwis.
Our apple trees have started producing at least 100 apples each season. We are starting to get hazelnuts and figs now also. The pear and peach should be producing fruit next year (at least we hope so). The pecans may have a few years left before we see any fruit.
We used to have 6 varieties of hops for our home brew, but the highly frequent watering makes them difficult to keep up with. We did get several pounds of hop cones before we let them fend for themselves. Birds have also propagated male plants to other portions of our land.

Do you water your young trees?

Yes, usually anyway. The plum that died did not get watered during a couple weeks of intense heat this year. The hazel nut that died was watered for 2 years, but for some reason struggled to grab on.
