    This doesn't explain power transfer, just emission.

    Wow. This is exactly the same technology we use in all (AESA) active electronically scanned arrays (advanced military radar) on Navy ships. These radars produce a large number of pencil-like radar beams using constructive and destructive interference where each of these beams can be independently and precisely pointed in a certain direction, using different frequencies and at different power levels.

    I'm here as part of a rabbit hole of trying to find out what MTG read in 2018 that made her think there were space lasers causing California wild fires. Help. This is actually a relaxing and informative video though.

    What is the cost of producing the same amount of power on earth? 1/500 or 1/1000?

    We have had this microwave technology since the mid Seventies.
    Then Star Wars came out and the public got a little squirrelly about big space stations shooting energy beams at a planet.

    Sadly the half power beam width of the latest phased array transmitters remains far wider than the few degrees of Bill Brown's 1975 Goldstone demonstration with a parabolic dish.

    So we are to believe that the inverse square law does not apply to this methodology ?? They collected 50 Watts and delivered a few microwatts to a receiver ???

      @@AbhishekKumar-os8be 0:49 - "each one of these sources would be transmitting energy in all directions" - there will be no spacial coherence here, so the inverse square dependence holds. This makes the rest of the cited sentence ... a lie: 0:53 - "but when they are all working together you don't loose any energy".

    I want to see what was going on _behind_ that array in the simulation.
    Wouldn't an identical beam be emitted 180° to the rear.?.

    Death ray weapon for the Space Force?

    • @brothermine2292
      @brothermine2292 Рік тому +1

      @Li Heli : Absolutely worth worrying. Nuclear weapons have been too dangerous to use since 1945, whereas nonnuclear weapons are used all the time. An invisible beam attenuated so its cooking effect is very slow (hard to detect) would be a very insidious weapon when we're not officially at war.

    • @brothermine2292
      @brothermine2292 Рік тому +2

      @Li Heli : First, the beam intensity could be attenuated to make it hard to detect, similar to the stealthy debilitating weapon that's been deployed against people in some U.S. embassies. Second, few nations have the ability to retaliate using nuclear weapons, and the ones that can would presumably be reluctant to escalate to nuclear war. Finally, if we are at war, for example the never-ending war against Al Qaeda, ISIS, etc, it could be a politically more attractive weapon than missiles launched from drones, etc, because its effect could be much more subtle (less risk of blowback).

    • @brothermine2292
      @brothermine2292 Рік тому

      @Li Heli : Common radios and antennas are designed to receive signals encoded in carrier waves in the communications portion of the electromagnetic spectrum, not signal-less microwaves. Sure, detectors could be deployed, but they would need to be deployed at all (or most) potential targets. Your comment about victims saying ”it's okay” seems silly... victims don't say drone strikes are okay but that doesn't prevent drone strikes from being used. Perhaps you're really just saying there's no reason to worry about a new, long range weapon being added to the military arsenal?

    • @brothermine2292
      @brothermine2292 Рік тому

      @Li Heli : So, we agree it's a death ray weapon for the Space Force.

    Why is it so difficult. They can beam in form of frequency sound...Receiver might need nominal powering but it should receive way more net gain from space.

    • @IDcircuits
      @IDcircuits Рік тому +1

      Sound doesn't exist in space. Sound is a pressure wave of air particles. Hardly any particles in space 😊

    • @sampleoffers1978
      @sampleoffers1978 Рік тому

      @@IDcircuits It doesn't have to be naturally occurring sound because there's abundant energy in space, so the sound can be generated from craft, converted to frequency most efficient. Can be done on Earth too, but it's matter of most continuous energy....and that smiley face looks kindergarten is most important thing.

      Doesn't have to be efficient when power source is abundant. Oil and gas are efficient but are limited supply and reduce jobs via efficiency....Satellites are in orbit resulting in abundant energy from the spin and any engineered designed friction anyway.

    This explains nothing other than waves in or out of phase and the amplifying or negating effects based on the phase. More detail explaining how the energy is converted and what type of transmission is used...that would be what we were led to believe based on the title.

  • @phizc
    @phizc Рік тому +2

    Nice intro to phased arrays, even tough you didn't use that term. Other than that, it was useless.
    I assume your intention is to use the focusing ability to make it "safe" if something or someone is hit by the beam? How big is the transmitter array supposed to be? The profile of the beam would be triangular, and anywhere near the focal distance, it would be incredibly tiny compared to the transmitter end. The satellite would be at least 250km above ground, and even planes don't fly much higher than 10km.
    For space based energy transmission to be useful, the satellite would need to be able to transmit at least hundreds of kilowatts, if not many megawatts. That would make for one spectacular beam weapon.
    In an article on Gizmodo, which linked to this video, one of the pros were that it would work 24 hours a day, but they didn't take into account the fact that the satellite would only be in position to transmit for a fraction of the orbit. So the satellite would have to charge up batteries for most of the orbit and th3n blast all of it in the few minutes it's above the target.. I mean receiver.

    All well and good. What is the diameter of dispersion on earth; In other words how large an antenna will you need to capture it. what will the energy density be? How much leakage current that could potentially affect everything around the beam?

      The expected gain by going into space is disappointing: the footprint is of the same order as that of a terrestrial power plant of comparable power. they have already done the studies it is not profitable is better to stay on the ground and china only in 2022 it is 66 gigawatt laid on the ground 😅

While you are walking or standing somewhere on the ground and your phone is charging. While you are driving the car, it is charging wireless. Everything receives wireless electricity from space.
