- I took my wife and my mom to New York recently, and I couldn’t go there without making a trip up to the famous New York City Chinatowns. I visited Manhattan Chinatown as well as Flushing Chinatown in Queens, and it was AMAZING. It felt like being back in China. How did Chinese people respond to hearing a white guy speaking Mandarin? Let’s take a look.

@@moonlambo5229 alright ig, slow but steady. My listening skills definitely need improvement, but my reading and pronunciation is going good. It's a bit hard without a Chinese partner but I've tried speaking with some here and there. Thanks for checking up 👍

Yeah I was at both Manhattan and Flushing Chinatown recently--both places are MUST-GO'S. Highly recommend to stop by if you're in either NYC or Queens.
When they say fuzhou I expect him to whip out the fuzhounese lol but I forget I'm not watching Laoshu

I was wondering why I could understand the two girls and the guy much better at 5:00 compared to the other people or even Chris himself! Then I realised, they're from the south or possibly even Taiwan. The 真的假的 gave it away 😂
They're not from Taiwan. Most likely from Fujian, hence the similarity.

Really appreciate both subtitles, helps me pick out Chinese words I missed. My listening comprehension sucks as I haven't found many resources to practice it, and because of that, I can't understand a ton of what they're saying without them. The subtitles tell me it's a super basic sentence I know so naturally when reading and writing, but with the strong accents and speed, I just couldn't get it without the subs. I felt so stupid not being able to do it without subtitles, it's a bit frustrating when I have been studying daily for over 2 years
Any tips you can give to someone who has been self taught for a while? I don't have a ton of time to watch TV shows, but I am open to give anything a go. I figured listening to a podcast I can barely understand wouldn't be very motivating, despite being convenient and travel friendly
