Here's the link to my new eBook for those wanting a step by step guide to eco printing in the 'dirty pot'! nicolabrown.ie/shop/new-products/eco-printing-in-the-dirty-pot-ebook/
now this is the kind of content i am here for! i am new to eco dyeing and the uses of anything not of the earth or natural is not sitting right with my Truth so i thankyou for this!
Hi Rebecca, I love using different home made tannins for tannin and iron reactions but from the eco printing perspective don't personally use them as a mordant. I've done many experiments using Symplocos however and that is an interesting avenue to explore!
I wanna start learning eco print but enviroment is very important for me and I'm worry about mordants or procedure harm so I try use more sustainable techniques. I'm glad to finding this channel😊.
Hi Solmaz, I'm glad that you have found my channel and it is nice to meet someone who is also interested in the environment! I do have an intensive 6 module online workshop which has just opened for registration, it will start in the middle of September. Here is the link for you in case you are interested in learning more! app.ruzuku.com/courses/71437/about Thanks.
very interesting ... I also thought that it is not sustainable to use mordents. when you have updates i am happy to see them. I congratulate you on your work. very good!!!
Hello Nicola! Congratulations on your beautiful work! When the fabrics are inside the pot, is it immersed in water, or does the water sit underneath to produce only steam?
I'm ecoprinting for the first time. Fingers crossed it turns out well. 🤞🏼 Should the fabric always be boiled (with the flowers/leaves and in between layer all rolled up) for the prints to appear?
You’re very welcome, I’m delighted that you enjoyed the video! I should also add that I do include information about which leaves and plants to use sometimes as I saw you asked that earlier then edited your comment. I’ll be posting at least one video each week (on Wednesdays barring an emergency) and hope to start posting show style videos where I answer questions from workshop students. You can also ask me things in the community tab (only works from a mobile phone or computer, not tablet) and that way I might get to answer them.
Hi Nicola, incredible videos thank you so much! They are so informative. I have a quick question though, the metal plates you used, were they also iron? Is that why they had an effect on the fabric?
Hi Lucinda, sorry for my slow reply. Yes, the plates were metal, they had rusted with use and that is why they had such a wonderful effect on the fabric!
Yes and no! With certain vegetation it's possible to achieve beautiful, washable and colourfast naturally dyed fabric without using traditional powdered mordants, eucalyptus leaves and bark would be a very good example. Most other vegetation needs to be used with mordanted fabric though because otherwise the dye will either wash out, fade almost immediately or turn colour AND fade. I'm actually planning a video about using eucalyptus as a natural dye soon so if you're not already subscribed to my newsletter please consider doing so and you won't miss out! Here's the link for you. members.nicolabrown.ie/newsletter
This all depends on the vegetation that you are using, not the fabric. Onion skins release good colour after 2 hours, most soft leaves work well after 2.5 hours however some eucalypts need up to 5 hours for the best prints.
@@edgehabitat A wonderful part of the world! If it wasn't for the current worldwide crisis and travel restrictions I could very well be over your way.....

Great to hear, and thank you for the lovely compliment!
There's also natural mordants for those interested or who don't have various pots.
Oak galls and rust water.

Hi! As far as I know, you can turn on auto subtitles in your chosen language from your end :)

Ciao Paola, ci proverò!
I don’t understand how it ca be called ECO printing if one was to be using chemical mordants. 2:59
I’m working without powdered mordants, not with them.
@@clasheen Oh yes, I do understand that, but you did refer to dyeing with metal salts as ECO printing. I wouldn't really call that ECO.
@@shekhinahmorgan2814she’s not using powdered anything dude. She’s using metal POTS.
